The HouseBot server, which is an extension of Meedio's Essentials package for management and control of digital media, runs on a standard PC running Windows 98, ME, 2000, or XP (and, presumably, XP Embedded), and supports a variety of control interfaces such as X10, IR, RS-232, and USB.
Control of the system can be distributed throughout the house by using what Meedio calls "Software Remotes." These can be Pocket PCs or Windows CE based devices -- or even normal Windows PCs -- running Meedio's HouseBot "Software Remote" application. When combined with wireless networking, the Software Remotes offer un-tethered remote control throughout the house, Meedio says.
Meedio also offers a HouseBot Software Development Kit which is intended to be used to add support for automation devices that are not already supported. A free trial download of HouseBot is available
