According to Transdimension, the TD242LP allows products to operate as either a USB host or a USB peripheral, and can perform both functions simultaneously. The chip is a "true transfer level controller" that interfaces directly to most popular microprocessors, the company says. Additionally, the active endpoint and transfer descriptors are located in on-chip memory, which significantly reduces processor overhead relative to comparable controllers.
The TD242LP and associated HCD allow mobile devices to support all USB devices that the Windows CE USB host stack supports, such as mice and keyboards, printers and mass storage and RNDIS devices, according to Transdimension.
Transmdimension's USB HCD is included on Microsoft's third-party partner solutions CD, and also ships with Platform Builder for Windows CE 5.0.
