EMO version 5.1 automatically delivers email, calendar updates, meeting requests, and contact updates to the user via the mobile network, Ericsson says. Changes on the mobile device are instantly mirrored on the user's desktop, and vice versa. Users can search for email and meeting request recipients from the enterprise's global address list.
EMO 5.1 supports enterprise-grade security features such as 128-bit AES end-to-end data encryption, device data encryption, and strong authentication, according to Ericsson. In addition, EMO can be deployed together with the company's Mobile Device Management software, which enables all PIM data to be completely removed "over the air" in the event of loss or theft.
Ericsson claims that EMO minimizes total cost of ownership by eliminating the need for special mobile devices or servers, and using mobile bandwidth effectively through compression, truncation, and control of downloaded data. Installation and maintenance are also designed to be as straightforward as possible, according to the company.
On the origination side, EMO works with Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5/2000/2003 and Lotus Domino 5.0/6.0/6.5. It requires the installation of Ericsson's "EMO Push Connector" software, on top of Windows 2000 Server, or "EMO Relay Server," on top of Sun Solaris.
Ericsson offers EMO in three editions: the Enterprise Edition is targeted at enterprises with Microsoft or Lotus mail servers; the Professional Edition gives individual users mobile access to corporate email using their own PC as a server; the Internet Edition targets users of public email services.
