QSI has introduced an in-cab computer based on Windows CE 5.0. Intended for fleet management, dispatching, and mapping applications, the Treq-L has an 800 x 480 touchscreen display, optional 802.11b/g wireless networking, an integrated GPS receiver, and a tri-band GSM/GPRS modem, QSI says.

The Treq-L has been designed for commercial vehicle environments, and includes a housing sealed against dust and minor liquid spills. The 7-inch WVGA touchscreen display has 0.19mm dot pitch and software-adjustable brightness.

The device's user interface appears to have been kept deliberately simple, to avoid distracting operators from the road. It has seven function keys, plus an eighth, lighted cursor key. There is also a rear-mounted speaker.

Marvell's PXA270, clocked at 416MHz, is the processor used here. The Treq-L has 128MB of RAM, and 256MB of upgradeable CompactFlash-based storage.

The Treq-L also has two USB ports, and a serial port selectable for RS232, RS422, or RS485 protocols. QSI also provided brief details of hardware options for the device, as follows:
        • One additional serial port
        • One additional USB port (wired-in cable)
        • Four general purpose digital I/Os
        • Ethernet 10/100Base-T
        • 802.11b/g wireless Ethernet
        • Tri-band GSM/GPRS modem
        • Integrated 12-channel GPS receiver
The Treq-L provides the standard facilities of Windows CE 5.0 Professional, such as Microsoft Office document compatibility and web browsing, but is also offered by third-party vendors with their software preinstalled on it. For example, Xata sells Treq computers running its Xatanet fleet management software.

For customers who prefer to develop their own software, documentation and technical support is provided, QSI says. The Treq-L software development kit (SDK) supports Microsoft's Visual C++ 4.0 (with service pack 4), and Microsoft Visual Studio 2005, according to the company.

Features and specifications listed by QSI for the Treq-L include:
        • Processor -- Marvell PXA270 clocked at 416MHz
        • Memory -- 128MB of RAM and 256MB of flash
        • Display -- 7-inch touchscreen display with 800 x 480 resolution
        • Networking -- 10/100 Ethernet or 802.11b/g wireless (both optional)
        • Other I/O:
          • 2 x USB
          • 1 x serial (RS232/RS422/RS485 configurable)
        • Expansion -- CompactFlash slot
        • Dimensions -- 7.8 x 6.3 x 2 inches (200 x 159 x 50mm)
        • Operating temperatures -- -20 to 60 deg. C
        • Power -- 12VDC or 24VDC
The Treq-L is available now, according to QSI, which did not provide list pricing.
