Verizon Wireless has introduced an enhancement to Pocket Outlook on its Windows Mobile based handsets. According to Verizon, "Enhanced Personal Information Management" (ePIM) -- which was developed exclusively for Verizon by Microsoft -- offers four unique new PIM functions to business customers using Pocket Outlook along with Exchange Server 2003.

ePIM is currently featured on the Samsung i600 and i700 smartphones, and Verizon says it expects to add ePIM to additional Windows Mobile based devices later this year. The new functionality in ePIM includes:
        • Exchange Server 2003 global address list lookup
        • Meeting scheduling for mobile users with other contacts
        • The ability to view free and busy time of other contacts
        • Access summary information about a scheduled meeting after a meeting request has been configured
Enterprises wishing to make use of the new ePIM capabilities should contact Verizon regarding its Microsoft QuickStart and SmartStart programs for Exchange Server 2003 Mobile Messaging that feature the new ePIM enhancement.
