Ibiz Technology Corp. will showcase a new "virtual laser keyboard" for Pocket PCs next month at the CeBIT show in Hanover, Germany. The device supports handheld computers running Windows and Palm embedded operating systems.

A light-weight adapter attaches to the handheld system and projects the image of a full-size keyboard onto a flat surface, making it easy to input text without a physical keyboard.

Ibiz says its new "Virtual Laser Keyboard" uses laser and infrared technology to project a full-size keyboard onto any flat surface. As you type on the laser projection, it analyzes what you're typing using the coordinates of that location. Unlike typical small PDA snap-on keyboards, the Virtual Laser Keyboard provides a full-size QWERTY keyboard -- yet it is also smaller and more convenient to use than available folding-type keyboards, and similar to them in functionality. Also, there are no mechanical moving parts to break down.

According to Ibiz, the Virtual Laser Keyboard weighs two ounces and is similar in size to a disposable cigarette lighter and includes a built-in rechargeable lithium ion battery that provides three to four hours of operation between recharges.
