NEC Display Solutions of America has introduced a line of intelligent, networked projectors claimed to be the first to support the Windows Vista "Connect to a Network Projector" wizard. The NPx150 series projectors run Windows CE 6.0 and target corporate, educational, and government applications.

The Network Projector function in Windows Vista communicates with remote, "networked projectors" via RDP (remote desktop protocol) over an IP network, and enables the display of a Windows Vista desktop on the remote projector. According to Microsoft, Windows CE 6.0 includes an "OS design template" that supports the development of Windows Network Projector devices.

By plugging a mouse and keyboard into an NPx150 series projector's USB ports, users can easily control the operation of a networked computer -- and therefore what is displayed by the projector -- directly from the projector, according to NEC.

The projectors feature "Silicon Optix HQV" (Hollywood quality video) display technology, characterized by NEC as a high-performance, video processing/scaling system for both computer signals and standard or high-definition video. HQV utilizes pixel-based, motion-adaptive de-interlacing to remove undesirable motion artifacts typical of interlaced signals, "resulting in life-like images in applications such as video conferencing," NEC claims.

NEC demonstrated the NP1150, NP2150, and NP3150 projectors this week at the InfoComm show in Anaheim, Calif. Customer shipments are expected late this year, NEC said. Pricing was not disclosed.
