The Sandgate II-P reference platform consists of three parts -- the handheld device itself; a JTAG debug board that connects to the handheld unit and enable debugging via JTAG, serial port, or LAN; and an optional monitor/keyboard for application development and evaluation. Included Softfront software lets developers "quickly build SIP/VoIP prototypes," the company says.

Sophia lists the following key features and specifications for the Sandgate II-P:
        • Processor -- 520MHz Intel PXA270
        • Memory -- 64MB SDRAM; 128MB Flash
        • Display -- 2.2-inch QVGA (320 x 240) resolution TFT LCD
        • Expansion:
          • miniSD slot
          • CompactFlash Type II slot
