        VoWiFi phone has 300m range, runs Windows CE

        Linksys is shipping the first in a line of wireless IP-telephony products that make Voice over IP (VoIP) calls through 802.11g wireless networks and supports peer-to-peer dialing. The WIP330 runs Windows CE and features an intuitive user interface for quick and easy configuration on WiFi networks, according to the company.

        The device sports a 2.2-inch QVGA (240x320) display and a built-in web browser. It features 64 MB of SDRAM and 32 MB of flash memory. The unit's processor was not specified.

        Linksys lists the following key features and specifications for the WIP330:
        • Display -- QVGA TIF 2.2-inch LCD with 16-bit color
        • Memory -- 64 MB SDRAM, 32 MB Flash
        • WiFi -- 802.11b/g
        • Range -- outdoor up to 300m using embedded antenna
        • Network protocols -- TCP/UDP/IP, IPV4, DNS, SDP, ARP, ICMP, DHCP client, static IP
        • Voice protocols -- SIP v2 session initiation protocol (RFC3261), SDP (RFC2327)
        • Voice codecs -- G.711( A-law and u-law), G.729 A
        • Voice quality:
          • G.168 echo cancellation
          • jitter buffer control -- default 180ms, max 900ms
          • comfort noise generation
          • packet loss concealment
          • speaker and microphone volume control
          • VAD -- voice activity detection
        • Telephony services:
          • 3-way conferencing
          • peer-to-peer dialing
          • call hold and resume
          • caller ID presentation and presentation restriction
          • dial by phone number
          • call forward
          • DTMF tone detection
          • phone book -- 250 records
          • call history -- 20 Records
          • password security
          • date and time (NTP time synchronization)
        The WIP330 is available now, and has a suggested retail price of about $370, according to Linksys.
