Fonix announced version 2.0 of its speech interface software for mobile devices based on Microsoft's Pocket PC Phone Edition and Smartphone software platforms. VoiceDial is a hands-free application that enables users to simply speak the name or number to call without pushing buttons or scrolling through menus, the company says.

Fonix claims the program is speaker independent and accurately recognizes spoken names and numbers, even in noisy environments, with no training required.

According to Fonix, VoiceDial version 2.0 contains the following enhancements:
        • Multiple language support including English, German, French, and Spanish
        • Supports both TTS (text to speech) and prerecorded prompts
        • Display interface enhancements:
          • Rotatable -- portrait or landscape
          • Scalable to different screen sizes
          • Can be minimized
        • Access contacts on the phone's SIM card as well as the Contacts list
        • Support for TTS on Smartphones. Previously, the Smartphone version only allowed for recorded prompts
        • Consolidates Premium, Standard and Compact versions into one
The software is available under royalty-free license terms to original design manufacturers (ODMs) and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), and is available for end user download for $15.95 from the Fonix website.
