        Watch DVDs on Pocket PCs, PMCs

        Two software houses, The Coding Workshop and Makayama, have released updates to their respective packages that enable transferring DVD content to Windows Mobile based devices such as Pocket PCs and Portable Media Centers (PMCs). Each claims its software can cram about 90 minutes of video into a 128MB memory card.




        DVD to Pocket PC 2.0 -- Makayama

        The new version of DVD to Pocket PC allows users to watch not only DVD's, but also home movies, downloaded content, and other video files on a Pocket PC, according to Makayama. In the latest version, the picture and sound quality have been enhanced with support for 500 Kbit/s video and CD quality sound.

        Other new features are said to include:
        • Conversion of AVI, MPEG, and DivX source files
        • Skin-control with 50 predefined themes
        • Fit-to-card option that auto-adjusts quality to the size of the memory card
        • Variable quality audio and video sliders with five levels of user control
        • Start and Stop at any point in the DVD
        • Assign any drive as the temporary disk
        • Renaming and checking for duplicate target files
        DVD to Pocket PC is available from Handango for $30, and a free demo version is available from the company's website.

        Pocket DVD Wizard, v3.1 -- The Coding Workshop

        The new release of Pocket DVD Wizard now supports Mpeg, Avi, and DivX video in addition to DVDs. Another new feature is support for high resolution (full VGA) devices. The program runs on Windows CE handhelds, as well as on Windows Mobile based Pocket PCs and PMCs, according to the company.

        Pocket DVD Wizard is available from for $29 from several online stores including Handango and PocketGear, and a free trial version is also available from the company's website.
