        Why are embedded projects late?

        Staff | Date: Jun 12, 2003 | Comments: 1

Venture Development Corp. (VDC) released its June 2003 "Embedded Systems Bulletin" today, which includes an interesting "data snapshot" on reasons for late embedded projects. The data is based on a sample size of 400 respondents, 160 in the U.S. and 240 in Europe, VDC said.

Interestingly, "changes in specifications" was blamed most, at over 60%, while "poor development tools" came out near the bottom of the list as a reason for lateness, with a score of less than 10%. Tools vendors might tell you otherwise, but the biggest factor seems, to a large extent, to be within your company's control! (Of course, other factors can also be responsible for projects requiring changes to their specs.)

In any case, here's the data; judge for yourself . . .
