Meetinghouse has released a new version of its "standards-based" 802.1X WiFi authentication platform for wireless network access devices. The AEGIS Authentication SDK (software development kit) version 4 adds customer-requested features such as greater security controls and increased flexibility, according to the company.

Meetinghouse describes the Authentication SDK as a highly portable embeddable source code library for enabling fast 802.1X authenticator functionality in network access server (NAS) devices such as wireless access points, wired/wireless routers, and switches. The company claims an installed base of over 200 million computer networking devices worldwide.

Among the key feature updates and upgrades in the new release are:
        • Portable interface across OSes -- Windows, Windows CE, Linux
        • Modular EAP library
        • CCX v4 support
        • EAP -- TLV plug-in interface (EAP methods with TLV extensions)
        • EAP-FAST, EAP-SIM v16, SmartCard
        • 802.11i pre-authentication
        • Credential management
        • 802.11 radio management
Earlier this year, Meetinghouse announced a collaboration with iPass to simplify and further advance 802.1x-based network access security for mobile devices with the intent to implement end-to-end protection across the Internet -- all the way from the device to the enterprise.
