        Windows CE PDA gains faster processor, more memory

        Datalogic has released an upgrade to its family of industrial strength PDAs running Windows CE. Jet version 5 boasts a faster processor, more than twice as much memory as its predecessor, and moves from Windows CE 4.2 to CE 5.0, according to the company.

        The current version of the Jet is based on a 400 MHz XScale processor with 64 MB of RAM and either 32 or 64 MB of flash memory. In contrast, the latest version of the Jet incorporates a 520 MHz PXA270, and has 128 MB each of RAM and Flash. The new unit also sports a mini SD slot for expansion.

        The unit comes standard with Bluetooth, while WiFi and GSM/GPRS wireless are optional. Of note, all threee wireless functions can be used simultaneously, according to the company

        Datalogic lists the following key features and specifications for the Jet PDA:
        • Processor -- Intel PXA270, clocked at 520 MHz
        • Memory -- 128 MB RAM, 128 MB Flash
        • Display -- 3.5-inch QVGA reflective TFT, daylight readable, 16-bit color, backlight and touchscreen
        • I/O ports:
          • RS232 up to 115.2 Kbps
          • USB 1.1
        • Expansion -- mini SD slot
        • Wireless:
          • Bluetooth standard
          • 802.11b WiFi (optional)
          • GSM/GPRS (900/1800/1900 MHz) in user-accessible SIM socket
        • Auto data capture options:
          • 1D laser
          • 2D imager
          • 13.56 MHz RFID
        • Dimensions -- 6.9 x 3.5 x 1.1 inches (176 x 90 x 28 mm)
        Version 5 is apparently only available in black. The current model is offered in both black and silver with differing keypad functionality.
