Two Technologies has added a new model to its line of Windows CE based customizable handheld computers. The JETT-RFID+ employs a field upgradeable Software Defined Radio (SDR) architecture to "future-proof" its RFID capabilities, according to the company.

The device's SDR technology allows new protocols and tags to be supported by existing hardware through simple field upgrades. This greatly minimizes the risk of obsolescence as RFID technologies advance, according to the company.

The JETT-RFID+ runs Windows CE 4.2 on an XScale processor. It features a 13.56MHz RFID reader/writer that fully supports MiFare (ISO 14443A, ISO 14443B, and UltraLite) tags as well as ISO 15693 tags from all major manufacturers, according to Two Technologies. The device can read tag IDs, read and write data blocks, and authenticate and encrypt data to and from compatible tags.

Another unusual feature is the adjustable rotating antenna that enables reading 13.56MHz tags in virtually any orientation. This is intended to alleviates problems with RFID tag orientation that plague many applications such as library, item level supply chain, and electronic access control (EAC) markets.

Two Technologies also offers a wide range of customization options including case color, protective bumpers, keypad, logo tag, serial tag, and cables.
