[Updated Oct. 11, 2004] -- Tidel Technologies, a maker of automated teller machines (ATMs), has begun production of its first "through-the-wall" ATM. The model 3700 runs Windows CE on an Intel XScale processor, and is intended for financial institutions and retailers that wish to offer customers 24x7 access to ATM banking.

The model 3700 is available in both walk-up and drive-up configurations.

Tidel describes the model 3700 as a fully weatherized platform with standard features that include a high capacity rear load dispenser, stainless steel surround, a 10.4-inch color LCD display, metalized keypad, multi-position rear maintenance touchscreen control, and both TCP/IP and dial-up communications. Upgrade options include dispenser configurations of up to four cassettes, UL 291 Level 1 vaults, and high-brightness LCD displays.

UL 291 is a standard describing the security of an automated teller machine when operated as intended by an authorized customer. A UL 291 Level 1 device is suitable for 24 hour operation. Entry from the customer access panel into the currency area of a Level 1 device should resist attacks for up to 30 minutes.
