Over 60,000 orders are expected to be electronically captured each day and transmitted to a remote data server via the WS4's wireless capabilities. Data Connect thereafter provides real-time sales and vendor information to SYSCO.
The Micros WS4 is a rugged point-of-sale (POS) terminal designed primarily for the hospitality industry, according to Micros. It runs Windows CE 4.1 on a National Semiconductor Geode 3200 processor. The "open system design" is enables inter-operability with Windows-compatible applications and POS peripherals, Micros says. The WS4 also comes with Micros's proprietary "Client Application Loader" (CAL) software, which is said to facilitate easy loading, upgrading, and remote management of software applications.
