Micros Systems recently unveiled a new point-of-sale (POS) system that targets independent restaurateurs with a "robust feature set and high quality hardware packaging." Micros e7, the company's 10th generation POS system, features a Windows CE .NET powered POS terminal.

According to Micros, the e7 utilizes the company's new Workstation 4 (WS4) POS terminal, which is based on "the robust Microsoft Windows CE .NET platform" and is available at a lower cost than many traditional PC-based systems. "This combination of a robust hardware platform and reliable operating system provides Micros e7 users with a lower total cost of ownership over the life of the product," Micros says.

An appealing feature of the new e7 is that the restaurateur's investment is protected as their business grows. "Micros has a long history of providing effective migration paths for its customers, allowing their point- of-sale investment to be leveraged as their business grows and requirements change," a company spokesperson said.

The e7 is expected to be available in July or August of this 2004.
