(Click here for larger image)Claimed to be priced substantially lower than competing systems, the MobileMapper CE GPS receiver is said to offer an "impressive array of high-performance features," including real-time, sub-meter GPS positioning, Bluetooth wireless connectivity, removable SD card memory, and an all-day removable battery that make it attractive for a wide variety of GIS data collection and mapping applications. The unit also boasts a QVGA resolution, 256K color, "daylight readable" TFT LCD display with a resistive touch panel, and achieves real-time, sub-meter positioning accuracy through a technique known as "DGPS corrections."
Thales says the MobileMapper CE is designed to operate in harsh environments where standard "consumer-grade" pocket computing devices such as PDAs and other less rugged GPS receivers can easily be damaged. Additionally, the device can withstand a 4.9 foot (1.5 m) drop to concrete, and remains waterproof even when totally immersed in water.
