Igel has introduced two new models in its Elegance line of thin clients running Windows CE 5.0. The IGEL-1532 CE IQ and IGEL-1564 CE IQ integrate the thin client electronics directly within an LCD monitor, resulting in a high-performance, "optically pleasing" computer with minimum space requirements, according to the company.

The two new Elegance LCD thin clients incorporate embedded hardware and software technologies derived from Igel's Compact series Clever Clients, according to the company. The devices are powered by a 400 MHz VIA Eden processor equipped with 64 MB or 128 MB of RAM and boast 15-inch LCD screens, stereo sound, built-in 100 Mbps Ethernet LAN, USB, PS2, and serial/parallel ports.

Igel lists the following hardware features and specifications for the model 1532 and 1564 LCD thin clients:
        • Processor -- 400 MHz Via Eden
        • Memory:

In addition to the embedded Windows CE 5.0 operating system, Igel says the devices' firmware includes two fundamental client/server communication protocols -- ICA 8.0 for the Citrix Presentation Server, and RDP 5.1 for the Microsoft Windows server. PowerTerm emulation software is also included to enable access to legacy host applications, and thereby allow the devices to replace conventional terminals.

Igel Remote Manager, also a standard feature, provides comprehensive administrative functions that contribute significantly to lower operating expenses, according to Igel. The software allows online configuration of a "virtually limitless" number of connected clients via a user-friendly management console. Local client parameters and group profiles are stored in a central SQL database from where they can be transferred uniformly to other units.
