Mounted on a reflector pole, the RX1250, which runs an unspecified version of Windows CE as its embedded OS, uses proprietary, encrypted 2.4 GHz transmissions to control and share data with Leica Geosystems' TPS1200 base unit.
Among other functions, the TPS1200 includes an electronic theodolite (transit) and an electronic distance measuring device (EDM). User-selectable "link numbers" can be set in case more than one RX1250 is being used in the same area.
The RX1250 also features Bluetooth for transferring data to personal computers. It has a 320 x 240-pixel touchscreen display (available in monochrome or color) and a 62-key QWERTY keyboard.
The new SurvCE software, developed for Leica by Carlson Software, provides GPS and TPS control at the surveying pole. It reportedly includes the following new features:
- Enhanced graphics and standardized icons
- Support of LandXML points, DTM, graphics, alignments, profiles and sections
- Ability to compute volumes between two surfaces, one surface and an elevation, or simple stockpile volumes
- Option to use a template DXF file for new jobs to automatically create layers and colors per a company standard
- Support of an unlimited number of localization points and
- Ability to stake offset intersections and bisectors at angle points.
Rated for nine hours of operation, the RX1250 weighs two pounds including battery, according to the company. A reflector pole adapter adds another nine ounces.
