        Windows CE's new VoIP turns handheld terminal into "walkie talkie"

        EE Times reports that Symbol Technologies is planning to use the recently announced Windows CE .NET 4.2 VoIP functionality as the basis of a new handheld data collection terminal with "walkie talkie" capabilities.


        According to EE Times, Symbol expects that basing 2-way communications on VoIP technology instead of conventional 2-way RF radio is likely to reduce costs and product size, and boost perfomance. The built-in communications function in Symbol's new mobile data collection device will allow co-workers in large factories to communicate with each other, the EE Times story said. Symbol reportedly plans to launch the device later this year.
