Other Windows Embedded powered devices in Galvanon's MediKiosk line include the Desktop Kiosk, shown at right, which runs Windows XP Embedded or XP Professional on a 900MHz Intel Celeron processor. This device features a 15-inch TFT display with resistive touch panel, and integrated 802.11b Wi-Fi wireless. Options include barcode, RFID, Magnetic Card, and Smart Card readers.

The MediKiosk free standing unit, shown at left, runs Windows XP Embedded or XP Professional on a 2.8 GHz Celeron processor. It is available in a variety of cabinet designs and configurations to fit into "virtually any environment," according to Galvanon. Options include a thermal and barcode printer, in addition to the reader options listed above for the desktop unit.
According to Galvanon, the company's MediKiosk devices and software enable patients to perform virtually every check-in or registration task themselves, resulting in reduction of . . .
- costs
- patient wait times
- risk of liability due to patient misidentification
- data entry and errors
- duplication of medical records
. . . together with increased patient satisfaction.
After patients check-in electronically, front desk staff can wirelessly monitor a patient's treatment, status and location throughout the encounter, as well as track workflow and check patient wait times.
