        Windows Mobile PDA/phone reads business cards

        AsusTek has unveiled a quad-band PDA/phone that sports both WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity. The P525, running Windows Mobile 5 Pocket PC edition, can scan business cards with its 2 Mpixel camera and automatically transfer the information to an Outlook contact entry, according to the company.

        The P525 comes with Skype for Pocket PC pre-installed, including Skype-in and Skype-out functions, for low or no cost VoIP phone calls over the Internet, according to AsusTek. The unit also includes "MySecret," an encryption tool for protecting documents on the device from unauthorized access.

        AsusTek lists the following key technical specifications for the P525:
        • Processor -- 416MHz Intel XScale (not specified, but probably a PXA270)
        • Memory -- 64 MB SDRAM, 128 MB Flash
        • Display -- 2.8-inch 240 x 320 pixels, 16-bit color, with touchscreen
        • I/O ports:
          • USB 1.1
          • Audio -- stereo headset jack
        • Expansion -- miniSD card slot
        • Wireless:
          • Quad band, GSM 850/900/1800/1900, GPRS Class B, multi-slot Class 10
          • 802.11b WiFi
          • Bluetooth version 2.0
          • IrDa (SIR)
        • Camera -- 2 Mpixel with auto focus and built-in flash
        • Dimensions -- 4.6 x 2.3 x 0.75 inches (116.8 x 59 x 19 mm)
        • Weight -- 159.5 g
        Price and availability were not disclosed.
