The five-band Treo 750 runs Windows Mobile 5.0 and works with Cingular's 3G/UMTS network, said to be available in "dozens of countries."
(Click here for larger image)While the 750/750v appears virtually identical to the
Treo 700w and
700wx, the internal platform is based on a 300 MHz Samsung processor rather than the 700w's 312 MHz XScale chip. The other major difference is the five-band radio that supports both GSM (850/900/1800/1900 MHz) and UMTS (850/1900/2100).
Other specs include:
- 128 MB of flash memory with 60 MB available to the user
- 240 x 240 touchscreen display, 16-bit color
- 1.3 Mpixel camera with 2x zoom, video capture, and integrated self-pertrait mirror
- Bluetooth v1.2
- Slot for MMC, SD, and SDIO cards
Cingular says its UMTS network "natively supports" simultaneous voice and data, allowing users to download email or browse the web while making a phone call or checking voicemail. UMTS is currently available in more than 160 major metropolitan areas, according to the company. Additionally, Palm expects to offer a free upgrade later this year to Cingular's higher performance HSDPA technology.
According to Palm, the 750 comes with the following software enhancements on top of Windows Mobile:
- A new messaging application with a "threaded chat" view for text and MMS messages
- Today Screen enhancements that feature one-touch dial by photo, dial by name, and web search directly from the today screen
- Voicemail management with on-screen, "VCR-like" icons, such as rewind, delete and fast-forward controls
- Ability to politely ignore a call by sending a text message such as "In a meeting" or "Can't talk right now"
Tara Griffin, vice president of Palm's Cingular Wireless business unit, stated, "Being able to take your 'office' on the road is a competitive advantage for any mobile professional."
The Treo 750 is available now from Cingular Wireless retail stores,
online, and through Cingular's B2B sales organization, priced at $400 with a two-year contract and mail-in rebate.
