Palm has announced a new Windows Mobile 5.0 Treo smartphone for the European market. The Treo 750v runs on Vodafone's 3G/UMTS network, and is compatible with Vodafone Business Email that provides remote access to both enterprise- and Internet-based email accounts, according to Palm.

The 750v appears virtually identical to the Treo 700w and 700wx, but without the antenna on top. Internally, it's based on a 300 MHz Samsung processor, rather than the 700w's 312 MHz XScale chip. Other specs appear to be identical:
        • 128 MB of flash memory with 60 MB available to the user
        • 240 x 240 touchscreen display, 16-bit color
        • 1.3 Mpixel camera with 2x zoom, video capture, and integrated self-pertrait mirror
        • Bluetooth v1.2
        • Slot for MMC, SD, and SDIO cards
Palm says the 750v also comes with the company's "unique suite of software enhancements" that run on top of Windows Mobile. These are described as:
        • Today Screen enhancements that feature the ability to "dial by name" with a few keystrokes on the keyboard, perform a web search directly from the Today Screen and perform one-touch dialing with personalized photo speed dials

        • Ability to manage a call directly from the Today Screen and stay on top of voicemail with on-screen, VCR-like icons, such as rewind, delete and fast-forward controls for easy navigation

        • Ability to ignore a call and quickly compose a text message such as "In a meeting" or "Can't talk right now" by selecting the "Ignore with text" option from the incoming-call screen.
        Availability

According to Vodaphone, the 750v will initially roll out to Austria, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland, and the U.K., and should be available in the company's other operating areas by the end of the year.
