IbisBrowserDX was written in C++ for high performance, and loads Web pages an average of 5.5 times faster than the mobile edition of Internet Explorer (IE), Ibis says. In addition, scrolling to the bottom of a page averages 7.4 times faster, according to figures published by the company.
Another claimed speed advantage is in switching from "PC View" -- where pages look as they would on a desktop computer -- to "Mobile View," where lines are wrapped to fit on screen without horizontal scrolling. IbisBrowserDX switches between views very rapidly, up to 56 times faster than IE, Ibis says.
Ibis adds that its browser has superior Cascading Style Sheet (CSS) support, so that websites display more accurately than they do with IE. Admitted limitations of the product, however, are that it cannot execute JavaScript or show Flash content.
IbisBrowserDX offers pop-up preference menus for customizationIBisBrowserDX also allows near-instantaneous zooming in and zooming out on a Web page via user-definable function keys. A series of pop-up preference menus (above) lets users customize font size, cursor speed, home URL, URL used in "Quick Search," and a variety of other parameters, according to the company.
Availability and pricingIBisBrowserDX is downloadable now as a .CAB file from the company's website,
here. It may be used free for an unspecified period, but then will only browse five pages a day until it is licensed for a monthly fee of 315 yen (approximately $3), or yearly for 3,000 yen (approximately $28).
Future plans for the product, according to the company, include the addition of Flash and JavaScript support, plus the release of a "corporate edition" called IbisBrowserDXR. Ibis also offers a version of IBisBrowserDX that runs under Java.
