company.
According to a posting on MSDN (the Microsoft Developer Network), the chat will take place from 10:00 AM PDT to 11:00 AM PDT. While it did not release a specific agenda for the one-hour online event, Microsoft said the session will "tap into the deep knowledge of the talented Microsoft embedded devices group members."
Typically, Microsoft's online chats devoted to its embedded operating systems feature at least half a dozen company employees or MVPs (most valuable professionals), and involve questions ranging from the very technical to those merely involving marketing issues. Tomorrow's chat could involve more of the latter than usual: Last week, Microsoft reportedly informed cell phone vendors and carrier partners that
Windows Mobile 7, originally expected during the first quarter of 2009, won't be ready until the end of the year.
The latest version of Windows Mobile,
Windows Mobile 6.1, has been featured on a steadily increasing number of phones and other devices. An
interim update -- announced in April, and apparently still on track for release by the end of this year -- will allow the bundled Internet Explorer browser to view web pages full-screen, without menu bars and other "chrome." The update will also provide Adobe Flash and Microsoft Silverlight support, as well as compatibility with H.264 video, says Microsoft.
Meantime, the latest version of Windows CE,
Windows CE 6.0 R2, was released last November. It added new features including support for Microsoft's
Remote Desktop Protocol 6.0 and
Web Services on Devices, and has been enthusiastically adopted by makers of thin client devices, among others.
In addition to providing online chats for developers, Microsoft regularly makes webcasts available. Most recently, several webcasts in a "24 hours of Windows Mobile application development" series have instructed developers on how to adapt their software to diverse screen sizes and a variety of other device features.
