(Click here for a larger view of PhatNotes version 5.3's Windows Mobile component)PhatNotes, which was rev'd to version 5.0 last year, is a notes organizing program designed to run on a Windows Mobile device and a Windows XP- or Vista-based desktop computer. According to PhatWare, its features include:
- Synchronization of notes between the desktop and mobile device
- Microsoft Outlook support
- Hyperlinks from one note to another
- Support for multiple notes databases, with tree-like views
- Hierarchical notes organizer
- Customizable views
Version 5.0 adds support for Windows Vista and Windows Mobile 6.0, plus a contact manager that allows dialing phone numbers, opening URLs, or sending emails by clicking on related words within notes. Version 5.3 now supports Windows Mobile 6.1 on the device side; on the desktop side, it adds Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1) compatibility.
The program's desktop component, meanwhile, gains two new user interface (UI) themes, and an improved auto-backup feature that allows creating multiple backup files. PhatNotes version 5.3 can also now be accessed quickly via a menu that remains resident in the Windows taskbar. The taskbar menu allows quick access to new or existing notes, lets users hide popup windows when PhatNotes is minimized, and can change a variety of application settings quickly, the company says.
Further informationPhatNotes version 5.3 runs on Windows Mobile 2003, 5.0, or 6.x devices with or without touchscreens. It costs approximately $40 for new users, $20 for those who are upgrading from PhatNotes 4.x or earlier, and is free to those who already have version 5.0.
