(Click here for a larger view of Verzio's Envii)With its "Flick Dynamic Menu" software, Verzio becomes the latest manufacturer to augment Windows Mobile's standard interface. Others include HTC, with its
Touch-Flo, and at least half a dozen more.
Verzio says its Flick software lets users switch between running applications "by simply flipping or scrolling through the screen with the tip of their finger." Additional software add-ons include a data backup utility and Verzio SMS+, which can send SMS messages at preset times, the vendor said.
The Envii's hardware, though less distinctive, includes a 624MHz Marvell PXA270 processor, 64MB of RAM, 1GB of flash, and a microSD card for storage expansion. The phone supports 3.5G HSPDA (high speed packet data access), via tri-band GSM (900, 1800, and 1900MHz) and dual-band UMTS (1900 and 2100MHz). Bluetooth 1.2 and 802.11b/g wireless networking are on board too.
Verizo has included an FM radio with RDS (radio data system) functionality, capable of displaying program information on the device's screen. The phone also sports an IrDA infrared port, once common on handhelds, but now something of a rare find.
The Envii has a 2.7-inch screen with 320 x 240 resolution, plus a five-way directional keypad. It also has two cameras: the main two-megapixel unit has LED flash plus a portrait mirror, while a forward-facing camera has VGA resolution and is intended for videoconferencing.
Finally, Verzio has augmented the Envii's audio capabilities with
SRS Wow technology from SRS Labs. This is said to enhance stereo separation and bass response, as perceived through the phone's onboard mono speaker or external stereo headphones.
