MobileVoiceControl has launched a subscription service that lets cellphone users search for web content -- or perform dialing, email, and calendar functions -- simply by "asking" their Windows Mobile device for the information using natural voice commands, according to the company.

MobileVoiceControl says its service, called VoiceControl, satisfies a growing demand for mobile information "anywhere, anytime." The "highly accurate" speech recognition engine requires no voice training, so most users are up and running within minutes, the company claims.

Examples of the kinds of commands that VoiceControl understands include:
        • "Find business, Overnight Shipping, near Jacksonville, Fla."
        • "Call Jim Johnson at work."
        • "Email Karen Smith. Subject: budget meeting. Body: The time has been changed to 2 p.m."
        • "Weather for Chicago, Ill."
        • "Search Web for population of Arkansas"
        • "Go to Website, windowsfordevices.com"
VoicControl is an application that works on Sprint smartphones such as the PPC-6700 Windows Mobile 5.0-based Pocket PC phone, as well as on Palm OS-based Palm Treos and Blackberries. A data plan is required for the service. Subscriptions run $72 per year, according to MobileVoiceControl.
