Samsung claims to have been the first to incorporate hard drives into smartphones, beginning with the 1.5 GB SPH-V5400 and followed by the 3 GB SGH i300 music smartphone introduced last year. With 8 GB, the i310 can store about 2,000 MP3 files, according to the company.

The i310 includes a 2 Mpixel video-capable camera with support for MPEG4 and H.263 video formats. The phone's TV output allows recorded videos to be displayed on a television monitor. The device supports Bluetooth for wireless headphones, but does not include WiFi.

The phone's USB 2.0 port and Plug & Play software allow it to serve as a removable disk drive for transfering files "in any format" to or from a desktop PC, the company says.
