Bitstream has released the newest version of its mobile browser for the Windows Mobile smartphone platform. The company is demonstrating ThunderHawk 2.0 Smartphone Edition at CTIA Wireless 2005 in New Orleans this week.

Thunderhawk is a combination of software and a subscription service that provides mobile users with a familiar -- and secure -- desktop browsing experience on Windows Mobile devices, according to the company. Version 2.0 for Pocket PC devices was announced last September.

Bitstream lists the following features of Thunderhawk 2.0 that are now available to Windows Mobile smartphone users:
        • Effortless scrolling -- fast, fluid Web page navigation
        • Increased speed -- the fastest mobile Web page speeds available
        • Multiple viewing options -- "full screen" and "split screen" viewing options that make information easy to find, and easy to read
        • Seamless connectivity -- drop connections are re-established immediately, along with any data previously entered
Bitstream also offers ThunderHawk 2.0 Enterprise Server Edition for Smartphones, a fully-configured "appliance" consisting of both the server-side software and hardware. The preconfigured turnkey appliance reduces enterprise IT installation overhead, according to the company.

In conjunction with the new release, Bitstream is offering a free companion subscription to current ThunderHawk subscribers who have both a Windows Mobile smartphone and a Pocket PC, enabling them to use both devices with a single subscription. Current users can download an upgrade here, while new users can get a 30-day free trial here.
