Most notable among seven utilities included in the package is File Explorer (left, below), which provides desktop PC-style file management. It allows viewing files in a list, as icons, or via a tree view. It also adds a Recycle Bin, search, the ability to see hidden system files, and the ability to map shared network drives, according to ISS.

File Explorer and Registry Manager utilities resemble their Windows desktop counterpartsAgain mimicking desktop Windows, Registry Manager (above right) is a utility that allows editing Windows Mobile's system registry. ISS says it allows modifying, creating, or deleting any registry key, as well as doing full backups/restores of the registry when necessary. It can also copy and paste registry keys to different locations and copy key names into other applications, such as Word.
Two additional utilities are said to provide control over programs that Windows Mobile, on its own, cannot accomplish. Task Manager (below left) allows the user to monitor the CPU, memory, and network resources being used by applications, then close those that are unresponsive or no longer being used. Task Switcher (below right) simply provides a menu on screen that allows switching to any program or shutting it down.

The ISS Task Manager and Task Switcher utiltiesNotepad is a simple text editor that ISS touts as being useful for creating HTML or XML documents, since it cannot accidentally introduce special characters or other formatting. Seen below, it can save files in ANSI, UTF-8, Unicode, or big-endian Unicode, providing greater flexibility when working with documents that use different character sets.

Notepad and Calc Pro utilities are also providedISS Calc Pro (above), also included, is said to be a powerful replacement to the default Windows Mobile Calculator. It may be used in standard view to do simple calculations, scientific view to do algebraic or trigonomic calculations, or in base conversion view to convert between decimal, binary, octal, and hexadecimal numbers.
Finally, the package includes another utility and two different games. Battery Monitor provides a battery meter that will stay above other programs, always providing confirmation of how much power is remaining. Its appearance can be changed via seven different themes, four possible onscreen positions, and three different sizes, ISS says.
Minesweeper (below left) is described as a logic-based puzzle game with three different skins and three levels of difficulty. Freecell (below right) is a solitaire game with the ability to select games by number, and using the same game numbers as the Windows desktop version. It supports both landscape and portrait modes.

ISS Essentials includes Minesweeper and solitaire gamesFurther informationISS Essentials supports Windows Mobile 2003, 2003 SE, Windows Mobile 5, and Windows Mobile 6/6.1, including both touchscreen and non-touchscreen devices. It supports all screen resolutions including WVGA and VGA, according to ISS.
