(Click here for a larger view of Sprite Archie)While SMS messages are often associated with frivolity, Sprite notes that for some users they can be an important business tool. Sprite Archie helps comply with data retention policies and also allows searching for messages or call history items via a desktop computer, according to the company.
The program's setup menu, seen above, allows archiving incoming and outgoing SMS messages and call histories to email immediately, or once a day. An Outlook plug-in -- said to be still under development -- will allow for processing the messages received from Sprite Archie.
Earlier this year, Sprite released
Sprite Backup 6.1, a program said to restore programs and data properly even from one Windows Mobile device to another, without overwriting critical system files or registry settings. This is claimed to be unique in properly supporting ROM upgrades, which normally not only require a hard reset but also make it difficult to restore to what ActiveSync considers a different device.
AvailabilitySprite Archive, beta 1.0, is available now for Windows Mobile 5 and 6 devices as a free download. However, the company provided no information about the software's ultimate price or when the beta will expire.
The software can be downloaded from the company's website,
