Following extensive field trials, Idaho Public Television has selected Streambox's Windows XP Embedded powered video transport system to deliver digital television programming to Dish Network's aggregation site.

Streambox's ACT-L3 Video Transport System, which is based on a 2.6 or 3.2 GHz Pentium 4 processor with Hyperthreading technology, encodes real-time interlaced video at 30fps with automatic closed-captioning support, according to the company. The device incorporates advanced error correction technology that is able to cancel and recover large amounts of burst error loss from an unreliable public network and deliver smooth video playback at low bit rates. The device also includes a range of built-in advanced Quality of Service (QoS) features, including remote management, Forward Error Correction (FEC) and error cancellation, burst error protection, bandwidth shaping, and automated self-healing signal reconnect and restart.

Streambox says the ACT-L3 is used in numerous real-time applications where interlaced broadcast and DVD quality video is required at low bitrates and low end-to-end video latency is mandatory. Examples include TV broadcasting, satellite, tele-medicine, wireless, film and video production and as well as desktop PC and Macintosh systems.

The real-time display of packet loss and packet recovery "gave us the information needed to trouble shoot network problems," noted Rich Van Genderen, Director of Technology for Idaho Public Television.
