Windows XP/XPe real-time extension adds 64 bits, .NET

Tenasys has released an update to its hard real-time extension to Windows XP and XP Embedded. INtime version 3.03 now supports Windows XP Professional x64 Edition for compatibility with 64-bit applications. It also provides an API that lets .NET languages interface with INtime code, according to the company.

Support for Windows XP x64 Edition allows memory-intensive, 64-bit applications to run cooperatively with INtime's real-time applications on a single hardware platform, Tenasys says.

A new .NET component has been added to the INtime NTX API library that allows applications written in any .NET language, such as Visual Basic and C#, to communicate and share data with the real-time INtime processes, according to the company.

Another new feature in version 3.03 is a virtual Ethernet system, which adds a virtual network connection between Windows and the INtime 3.0 real-time environment. The virtual Ethernet driver passes packets directly from the Windows driver interface to the INtime driver interface and vice versa, according to Tenasys.

The new release also contains a Microsoft Component Definition file, also known as an SLD file, for building embedded INtime real-time applications optimized for the Windows XP Embedded platform. Tenasys says the INtime SLD file is compatible with all versions of Windows XPe.

According to Tenasys, the SLD file includes multiple macro components that define typical INtime usage scenarios on a Windows XPe platform, such as "minimal," "networking," and "host" configurations. A "kernel" configuration page is also provided to simplify the configuration of the INtime environment's operating parameters when deployed on the XPe target system.

The version 3.03 update is available free to all current INtime 3.0 customers. A fully-functional evaluation copy of INtime 3.0 can be downloaded from the company's website.
