Asus recently teamed up with PND (personal navigation device) specialist Garmin to release a cobranded Windows phone, the
Nuvifone M20 (right). That development led some (not us!) to speculate that Asus wouldn't be releasing future phones under its own brand, but here we have a new GPS phone with core capabilities not that different from the M20's.
The P835 includes a 528MHz Qualcomm 7201A processor, 288MB of RAM, and 4GB of flash storage, according to Asus. As on the M20, GPS is part of the mix -- though not with any extensions proprietary to Garmin -- while 802.11b/g WiFi, Bluetooth, and a five megapixel camera are also included.
Asus says the P835 includes quad-band (850/900/1800/1900MHz) GSM/GPRS/EDGE connectivity plus tri-band (900/1900/2100MHz) UMTS/HSPA connectivity. The device offers download speeds of up to 7.2Mbps, up to six hours of talk time on 3G networks, and up to seven hours talk time on 2G networks, the company adds.

Like a variety of previous Asus phones -- such as the 800MHz
P565, claimed to be the world's fastest when it was launched last November -- the P835 amends the standard Windows Mobile 6.1 software with a UI called "Glide" (above), touted as "cutting-edge gesture technology." The device also includes the
Opera Mobile 9.5 web browser, plus software that, like Morose Media's similar
WMWIfiRouter, allows the phone to share its Internet connection via WiFi with up to ten other devices, according to Asus.
