The fourth handheld to be announced by Winmate in as many months -- the previous three were December's S430T, November's E430T, and October's R03TACH-RTS1 -- the new G570Z (pictured) offers something rather different. The previous devices mentioned included ARM processors and ran Windows CE or Windows Mobile, but this device runs Windows XP Embedded on an Intel Atom CPU.According to Winmate, the G570Z is available either with the 1.1Ghz Z510 or the 1.6GHz Z530. Both of these CPUs are single-core, with two-Watt TDPs, but according to Intel, the Z530 provides multithreading and VT-x virtualization technology in addition to its faster speed.
Equipped with the SCH US15W companion chip, the G570Z supports from 512MB to 2GB of RAM, says Winmate. Fixed storage is provided by a Mini PCI Express-interfaced SSD (solid state disk), offered in capacities from 8GB to 64GB, the company adds.
The G570Z also includes a variety of external connectors. On the left side, for example, there's a docking port connector, while the right side includes a gigabit Ethernet port, a USB 2.0 port, a microSD slot (up to 16GB capacity), and a SIM slot.
Equipped as standard with Bluetooth 2.1 and 802.11b/g wireless networking, the G570Z also has a GPS receiver and, optionally, a cellular module (HSPA/UMTS/GPRS/WCDMA/GSM). Winmate also offers the device with a 1D/2D barcode reader or an RFID reader, though it appears both of these can't be installed simultaneously.
The G570Z offers a 5.7-inch screen with resistive touch, a resolution of 640 x 480 pixels, and a 500-nit brightness rating. Alphanumeric input has to be performed via a virtual keyboard, but the handheld offers two function keys, a five-way controller, plus menu and power buttons, Winmate says.
Despite its relatively prominent screen and ports, the G570Z still meets the IP65 standards for resistance to water and dust, according to Winmate. The device is also said to comply with MIL-STD-810F specs that, among other things, mandate the device's survival following a four-foot drop onto concrete.
Finally, Winmate says the G570Z has a two megapixel camera with autofocus and LED flash. The device's dual 2600mAh batteries are hot-swappable and provide more than sveen hours of operation, the company adds.

Winmate did not cite pricing for the G570Z, but the device appears to be available now. More information can be found on the G570Z product page and on the Rugged PC Review website, the latter providing a look at the inside of the unit.
