According to NetMotion, the combination creates a seamless "user experience," even in weak coverage areas or if users suspend and then resume activity. This allows any combination of IP-based networks, both wired and wireless, to act as a unified, seamless, easily managed system. If a user encounters coverage gaps, applications simply pause, then resume sending data when a connection becomes available again.
NetMotion claims that Mobility XE greatly improves throughput, application responsiveness, and productivity on bandwidth-constrained wireless networks. Additionally, the technology "significantly" increases the throughput of cellular-based data networks by reducing protocol overhead and "chattiness." The package also compresses data and web images.
NetMotion says Mobility XE v6.63 currently supports the
Palm Treo 700W,
Verizon XV6700,
Sprint PPC 6700, Cingular 8125,
Dell Axim X51v,
HP iPAQ hx2790, and
Symbol MC70.
"We've seen significant demand for Windows Mobile 5.0 support, particularly among our largest customers in field service, financial and biomedical markets" said NetMotion product marketing vice president Tom Johnston. "This release sets the stage for broad adoption of Windows Mobile 5.0 powered devices among our current and future customers."
