Hand Held Products Inc. has added a new data-collection handheld to its Dolphin 7000 series. The Dolphin 7600 is designed to provide powerful and flexible mobile computing and data collection capabilities in light-industrial applications, including retail, parcel delivery, warehousing, and similar functions, Hand Held says.

Running on a Windows CE 5.0 platform, the device uses the company's proprietary Adaptus Imaging Technology 5.0 to read and capture more digital images and barcodes than earlier Dolphin models, according to the company. The unit provides Bluetooth connectivity for wireless data transfer, along with 802.1b/g wireless communications to aid in contact among workers. Additionally, this latest Dolphin includes "Advanced Full-Shift Power Management" so it can last an entire work-shift without recharging, the company adds.

Another key aspect of the Dolphin 7600 is its ergonomic design, the company says. For example, an angled barcode scanner alleviates the need for the user to tilt the device back and forth to scan codes; the device's weight distribution was calculated to "naturally balance the device in the user's hand without additional gripping or stress"; and a "finger saddle" makes it easier and more comfortable to use the device single-handed, Hand Held reports.

The device also offers extreme durability features. According to specs, it comes in a high impact resistant housing, with a magnesium-alloy internal chassis with component shock mounts. Operating temperatures purportedly range from 10 to 122 degrees Farenheit.
