Cyberhand Technologies has released a new IR-wireless keyboard that folds up to about the same size as a typical PDA. The CT4700 is "is half the volume and weight" of other PDA keyboards and is compatible with the "industry's broadest selection" of PDAs and smartphones, according to the company.

        Fully opened, the keyboard measures 11.5 x 4 x 0.5 inches. It folds up to a package 5.75 x 4 x 1 inches in size.

Cyberhand says the CT4700 supports Windows Mobile Pocket PCs and smartphones, as well as Symbian and Palm OS devices. In addition to a set of normal alphanumeric keys, it also includes ten programmable keys and 12 shortcut keys. Additionally, the device supports six languages, including English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese -- the English version is standard, while other languages are available by special order at the same price, according to the company.

According to Cyberhand, two IrDA LEDs enable flexible communication with the PDA. The company also offers the "Shoestring" IR Extender/Amplifier, a fiber optic cable that clips onto a PDA or cell phone and the keyboard to provide reliable IR communication.

The CT4700 is available from the company's website for $59. The Shoestring IR Extender/Amplifier is $20.
