A December 2007 survey claims there are 255 million wireless users in the U.S., representing an increase of over 22 million from the year before. The study also said that in the last six months of 2007, wireless service revenues reached $71 billion.

Released in conjunction with the CTIA Wireless 2008 show underway now in Las Vegas, the survey reported that wireless data service revenues for 2007 rose to more than $23 billion, a 53 percent increase over 2006, representing about 17 percent of all wireless service revenues.

Other stats listed in the survey results include:
        • Over 48 billion messages were sent in December 2007, representing 1.6 billion messages per day, an increase of 157 percent over December 2006.
        • Almost four billion MMS messages were sent during the second half of 2007, compared with 2.7 billion for all of 2006.
        • Two trillion wireless minutes were used in 2007, up nearly 18 percent over 2006.
A substantial preview of the CTIA survey results can be found here, with the full study available at an undisclosed price.
