Microsoft Embedded product manager Mike Hall has written an extensive, detailed, hands-on tutorial showing how to develop and test a device driver for Windows CE 5.0. It provides step-by-step instructions for creating a stream driver, creating a custom Windows CE Test Kit (CETK) test, and writing an application to test the driver.

The six part tutorial begins with a discussion of just what a device driver is. Hall then goes on to show how to create a Windows CE project that will build a stream driver. Much of the remainder of the article is devoted to various approaches to testing and understanding what's happening inside the driver.
