Wyse says its Streaming Manager packages and delivers a standardized operating system, such as Windows XP Embedded, and necessary applications to a "stateless" thin computer. The thin computer then runs the operating system and applications locally, but all of the files and applications reside on the server, where they are much easier to back up, manage, and maintain. Additionally, all software patches and updates are easily deployed from a central location, according to Wyse.
Device Manager (formerly Rapport) allows IT departments to centrally manage and control a wide range of intelligent devices, wired and mobile, desktop and even handhelds, Wyse says. It provides "granular asset tracking" with detailed information about each device on the network. Software and client configuration updates can be scheduled to minimize disruption and downtime.
Wyse offers two editions of Device Manager. The Workgroup edition comes bundled with all Wyse thin computers, and provides comprehensive management control for smaller installations. The Enterprise edition provides additional management capabilities, and scales up to "hundreds of thousands" of clients, the company claims.
Both the Streaming Manager and Device Manager are on display at the Citrix iForum 2006 this week in Orlando.
