predecessor, it runs Windows Mobile Second Edition for Pocket PC. i-mate says the handset is an unlocked tri-band GSM/GPRS device that can operate on the Cingular and T-Mobile networks as well as any other GSM network. Other features include a 1.3 Mpixel camera, Bluetooth connectivity, built-in voice recorder, and hands-free speakerphone.

Application software includes email, Internet Explorer, Windows Media Player 10, Pocket Outlook, Pocket Word, Pocket Excel, mobile gaming, text messaging, multimedia messaging, and MSN Messenger. It's also compatible with i-mate's
1-view remote file access software.
"Based on the tremendous response we received after our first handsets were launched in the US six months ago, we are anticipating this new device will be very well-received by both retailers and consumers," said Jon Driscoll, president of i-mate USA. "The original JAM has been rated as one of the best Pocket PC mobile phones available, and we are eager to get this next version the JAM into the marketplace."
The Charcoal JAM has a suggested retail price of $665, according to i-mate. The
original JAM will continue to be available at a suggested retail price of $649.
