Device Profile: Bitatek IQ-3000 and IT-6000 scanning handhelds

Bitatek has introduced a pair of handhelds that combine PDA functions with bar code scanning and wireless communications. Both handhelds run Windows CE on Intel ARM-based embedded processors.



The ruggedized IT-6000 is based on a 400 MHz Intel XScale processor running Windows CE .NET. It boasts dust and water-splash proofing with an IP54 Rating and can survive a 1.2 meter drop, according to Bitatek. The built-in laser/CCD scanner reads industry standard barcodes. Connectivity options include Bluetooth, 802.11b and a wireless WAN module (GPRS, GSM, CDMA, etc.).

The older IQ-3000 (photo at right) is based on an Intel StrongARM processor running Windows CE 3.0. In addition to built-in barcode scanning capabilities, the device includes IrDA and USB interfaces. Features and specifications of the IQ-3000 include:
  • Processor -- Intel ARM 720T running at 74 MHz
  • Memory -- 16MB SDRAM, 16/32 MB Flash, 128 KB boot
  • Display -- 240 x 320 pixel 16 grayscale mono LCD with EL backlight
  • Audio -- mono speaker and microphone, stereo headphone jack
  • Buttons:
    • One power/ EL on/ off button.
    • One Navigation button for Up, Down, Right, Left, and Action (for barcode start)
    • Two barcode start keys
    • Software Reset Button
    • Four application buttons and one recording button
  • Operating System -- Windows CE 3.0
  • Input/output interfaces:
    • IrDA 1.0
    • USB 1.0 compliant Device port
  • Bar code reader:
    • Light Source -- 650+10nm Visible Laser diode
    • Scan Rate -- 100 scan/sec
    • Contrast -- 0.45 minimum
    • Resolution -- 5 mil
    • Scan method -- Bi directional scanning
    • Reading Scan Angle -- 44 degree
    • Symbologies:
      • Code 39
      • Code 39 Extended
      • Interleaved 2 of 5
