This guide provides a sampling of PDAs, PMPs, PNDs, data terminals, and other handheld devices based on Microsoft's Windows Embedded Compact, Windows Mobile, and Windows CE.

The devices in this section span a broad range of capabilities, including standard PDAs, specialized PDAs for the disabled, rugged PDAs for military and industrial applications, handheld GPS instruments, bar code scanning handhelds, and more.

Note that this list is not meant to be all-inclusive; many of the manufacturers represented here offer additional models covering a spectrum of features and specs. This list will be updated frequently, so be sure to check back periodically for the latest info. The devices are listed chronologically.

Opticon H15B -- July 26, 2010 -- Opticon offers a Windows CE-based handheld computer that includes 1D and 2D barcode scanning, features IP54-level sealing against liquids and dust, and survives five-foot drops onto concrete. The H15B includes a 2.4-inch display, a 312MHz Marvell PXA270 processor, a 25-key keyboard, and eight-hour battery life, the company says.

Juniper Systems Mesa -- July 22, 2010 -- Juniper Systems offers a ruggedized Windows device it's positioning as a cross between a handheld and a tablet PC. The "Mesa Rugged Notepad" includes a 5.7-inch, VGA-resolution screen, an 806MHz Marvell PXA320 processor, 4GB of flash storage, plus camera, GPS, and 3G cellular options, the company says.

MaxID IDL300 -- July 15, 2010 -- MaxID offers a Windows CE-based handheld computer designed for identity management applications. The IDL300 includes a 3.7-inch, VGA-resolution screen, plus a fingerprint reader, barcode scanner, and a contactless card reader, the company says.

Bluebird Soft Pidion BIP-7000 -- July 9, 2010 -- Bluebird Soft offers a Windows-based handheld computer with barcode scanning capabilities and a detachable pistol grip. The BIP-7000 includes a 2.8-inch display, an 806MHz processor, 802.11b/g, plus GPS and cellular modem options, the company says.

Cowon V5W -- July 8, 2010 -- Cowon added wireless networking, a web browser, and an HDMI port to its Windows CE PMP (portable music player). The V5W has a 4.8-inch touchscreen with 800 x 480 pixel resolution, from 16 to 64GB of flash storage, and an S/PDIF digital audio output, the company says.

Denso ADC BHT_710BWB-WM -- June 14, 2010 -- Denso ADC offers a handheld Windows Mobile 6.1 device designed for barcode scanning. The BHT-710BWB-WM features a 3.5-inch touchscreen with 320 x 240 resolution, 802.11a/b/g wireless networking, Bluetooth, and an infrared port, the company says.

Springteq WeGo and WeGo Mini -- June 11, 2010 -- Springteq announced a pair of Windows CE-based PNDs (portable navigation devices) that project heads up displays onto a car's windshield. The WeGo produces a 4.5-inch virtual image, while the WeGo Mini offers a 3.5-inch image, and both include RF-based wireless remote control, the company says.

Magellan RoadMate 3065 Commuter -- June 8, 2010 -- Mitac's Magellan division offers a Windows CE-based PND (portable navigation device) offering automatically downloaded, subscription-free traffic alerts. The RoadMate 3065 Commuter features a 4.7-inch touchscreen with 480 x 272 pixel resolution, a microSD slot, plus built-in AAA (American Auto Association) TourBook and roadside assistance functionality, the company says.

DT Research WebDT 410 and 415 -- May 26, 2010 -- DT Research offers two handheld POS (point of service) computers targeting mobile order-taking, ticket scanning, and payment processing. The WebDT 410 and 415 offer 3.5-inch screens, integrated MSRs (magnetic stripe readers) and RFID readers, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, plus optional 1D/2D barcode scanning, the company says.

Yukyung Viliv P3 Prime - -- May 24, 2010 -- Korean firm Yukyung offers a PMP (portable media player) that boots into either Windows CE 6.0 or Android. The Viliv P3 Prime has a 3.7-inch AMOLED (active matrix organic light emitting diode) display, includes wireless networking, has HDMI output and a microSD slot, and weighs just 3.7 ounces, the company says.

Yukyung Viliv HD5 -- May 18, 2010 -- Yukyung's Viliv HD5 has a five-inch screen with 800 x 480 resolution, a HDMI port, a SD slot, FM receiver, and an optional T-DMB (terrestrial digital multimedia broadcasting) TV receiver. It runs Windows CE on an undisclosed processor.

A.C.C. Systems ACC870 -- April 16, 2010 -- A.C.C. Systems offers a Windows CE-based handheld computer that's available with UHF and HF RFID readers. The ACC870 includes a 3.5-inch touchscreen display and 520MHz processor, and is available with a 1D/2D barcode reader, 1.3 megapixel camera, WiFi, Bluetooth, a GSM or CDMA cellular modem, and a GPS receiver, the company says.

Cummins QuickCheck 5200 -- April 7, 2010 -- Cummins offers a Windows CE-based handheld device designed to let mechanics gather information and modify operating parameters for heavy-duty diesel engines. Now with a color screen, the QuickCheck 5200 can directly adjust settings in a vehicle's ECM (electronic control module), the company says.

Datalogic Mobile Elf -- March 26, 2010 -- Datalogic Mobile offers a Windows Mobile 6.5-based PDA (personal digital assistant) that includes a 1D/2D barcode reader, an RFID reader, GPS, and an HSDPA (high speed downlink packet access) radio. The "Elf" has a VGA-resolution touchscreen display, WiFi, Bluetooth, a three megapixel camera, and a choice of keyboards, the company says.

Motorola MC75A -- March 23, 2010 -- Motorola offers a rugged, cellular-connected handheld with long-term availability, The MC75A "Enterprise Digital Assistant" runs Windows Mobile 6.5, has a 3.5-inch VGA touchscreen, includes WiFi and GPS, and comes with a choice of keyboards, the company says.

Motorola MC9598 -- March 22, 2010 -- Motorola and Verizon Wireless offer a rugged, Windows Mobile-based handheld computer with integrated 3.G telephony. The MC9598 includes a 3.7-inch VGA touchscreen, GSM or CDMA cellular, an optional camera and 1D or 2D barcode scanners, and field-swappable keyboards, the company says.

Unitech HT680 -- March 19, 2010 -- Unitech offers a Windows CE-based handheld computer designed for scanning barcodes. Said to be capable of surviving six-foot drops, the HT680 has a 2.7-inch, 320 x 240 pixel display, features a numeric keypad and five-way controller, and is available with 1D or 2D barcode scanners, the company says.

Leica Geosystems mojoMINI -- March 12, 2010 -- Intrinsyc Software says its Destinator navigation software was used in a Windows CE-based GPS for farmers. Leica Geosystems' mojoMINI includes a 4.3-inch touchscreen display, a lightbar-mountable SmartAg receiver compatible with SBAS (satellite-based augmentation systems), an SD slot, and a two-hour battery.

Mio Moov S401 -- March 10, 2010 -- Mio offers a Windows CE 5.0-based PND (personal navigation device) featuring a 4.3-inch touchscreen display. The Moov S401 has 128MB of RAM, 2GB of flash storage, a USB port, and optional TMC (traffic message channel) receiver, the company says.

Psion Workabout 3 -- March 8, 2010 -- Psion Teklogix offers a third-generation version of its Workabout Pro industrial handheld computer. The Workabout Pro 3 now has a 624MHz processor, offers 256MB of RAM and 1GB of flash storage, has a brighter display, and offers more keyboard layouts, the company says.
Two Technologies Hydrus Luna RFID -- March 4, 2010 -- Two Technologies added RFID to its ruggedized handheld computer, still claimed to offer up to 40 hours of battery life. Running Windows CE 5.0 on a 624MHz processor, the Hydrus Luna RFID includes a five megapixel camera with xenon flash, WiFi, Bluetooth, and a customizable 55-key keyboard.

Honeywell Dolphin 6500 -- Feb. 18, 2010 -- Honeywell added to its range of Windows-based handheld computers with a model intended for retail and light industrial settings. The Dolphin 6500 includes a 3.5-inch touchscreen display with 320 x 240 resolution, a 624MHz processor, a 1D/2D barcode scanner, and a choice of keypads, the company says.

American Industrial Systems RPDA37 -- Feb. 17, 2010 -- American Industrial Systems offers a ruggedized Windows handheld computer that withstands drops up to five feet. The RPDA37 includes 802.11b/g wireless networking, Bluetooth 1.2, two serial ports, three USB ports, Ethernet, and optional wide area connectivity, the company says.

Glacier Computer M300 and M305 -- Feb. 17, 2010 -- Glacier Computer offers two rugged handheld computers that run Windows Mobile 6.1 on a 624MHz Marvell PXA270 processor. The M300 and M305 withstand multiple six-foot drops, withstand dust and liquids, and include extensive connectivity options, the company says.

Pharos Science 565 PDA -- February 10, 2010 -- Pharos Science offers a PDA (personal digital assistant) that runs Windows Mobile 6.5 and includes a built-in GPS receiver. The Pharos 565 PDA has a 3.5-inch touchscreen with 320 x 240 pixel resolution, 802.11a/b/g wireless networking, Bluetooth, and an IrDA port, the company says.

Yukyung Technologies Viliv P3 -- Jan. 11, 2010 -- The Viliv P3 boots into either Windows CE 6.0 or Android, includes a 3.7-inch active matrix organic light emitting diode display, and has an 800MHz ARM Cotex-A8 CPU. It includes a web browser, wireless networking, and 8GB, 16GB, or 32GB of flash storage, the company says.

Yukyung Technologies Viliv HD5 -- Jan. 11, 2010 -- The Viliv HD5 runs Windows CE 6.0, includes a five-inch screen, and outputs 1080p HD video to an included HDMI port. Including an SDHC slot, the device has 8GB, 16GB, or 32GB of flash storage, and an optional T-DMB receiver, the company says.

Cowon V5 HD -- Dec. 22, 2009 -- Cowon offers a Windows CE-based PMP (portable media player) with a 4.8-inch touchscreen and a HDMI video output. The V5 HD provides an 800 x 480 display, 720p video playback, 8 GB of flash storage, a SD slot, and an optional T-DMB (terrestrial digital multimedia broadcasting) TV tuner, the company says.

Motorola WT4090 VOW -- December 18, 2009 -- Motorola offers a wearable Windows CE computer designed to be operated solely using voice recognition and text-to-speech software. The WT4090 VOW (voice only wearable) is available with a headset and wearable scanner options, includes 802.11a/b/g wireless networking, survives four-foot drops, and has a 520MHz Marvell PXA270 processor, the company says.

Motorola MC3090-Z -- Dec. 8, 2009 -- Motorola offers a handheld computer that includes an RFID reader and "the industry's first dual-axis antenna." The MC3090-Z runs Windows Mobile 6.1 on a 520MHz PXA270 processor, has a three-inch touchscreen display, is available with Bluetooth and a 1D barcode scanner, and includes 802.11a/b/g wireless networking.

Sharp HandyBrain RZ-H240 -- Nov. 25, 2009 -- Sharp's HandyBrain RZ-H240 runs Windows CE 6.0 and is aimed at a wide variety of retail applications. According to the company, the device includes a 3.7-inch screen that's available in VGA or QVGA resolutions, a numeric keypad, plus camera and barcode scanner options.
Juniper Systems TK6000 -- Nov. 20, 2009 -- Juniper Systems offers a ruggedized handheld computer that offers up to 32 hours of battery life. The Windows Mobile 6.1-based TK6000 survives multiple five-foot drops to concrete, offers an alphanumeric keyboard and 3.5-inch display, includes two serial ports and two USB ports, and provides optional GSM cellular connectivity.

HumanWare BrailleNote Apex -- Nov. 16, 2009 -- HumanWare announced a device touted as the "thinnest and lightest notetaker ... for professionals and students who are blind." The Windows CE-based BrailleNote Apex includes a choice of keyboards, a scroll wheel, a 32-cell Braille display, audio recording and playback, WiFi, Bluetooth, and Ethernet, the company says.

Motorola MC3100 -- Nov. 4, 2009 -- Motorola offers a rugged handheld computer that comes with either Windows Mobile or CE, and in three different physical configurations. The MC3100 has a 624MHz Marvell processor, 802.11a/b/g and Bluetooth wireless, an integral RFID tag, and a choice of scanning capabilities.
Newport Digital N37B -- Nov. 2, 2009 -- Newport Digital Technologies offers a ruggedized Windows handheld computer with a built-in RFID reader and a GSM cellular modem. The "N37B" includes GPS, 802.11b/g wireless networking, Bluetooth 1.2, two serial ports, three USB ports, and a wired Ethernet port.
Sunrise Telecom CM2800 -- Oct. 22, 2009 -- Sunrise Telecom offers an upgraded, Windows CE-based cable modem network analyzer. The CM2800 is designed to analyze "triple-play" services and to be compatible with DOCSIS (data over cable service interface specification) 3.0.

Satsports Multisports GPS -- Oct. 15, 2009 -- U.K firm Satsports Ltd. offers a PND (personal navigation device) designed specifically for sports usage. The Windows CE 5.0-based "Multisports GPS" has a 2.7-inch touchscreen display, fits in a pocket, and includes apps for golfing, running/cycling, skiing, as well as multimedia playback, the company says.

Honeywell Dolphin 7600 with GPS -- Oct. 1, 2009 -- Honeywell offers a data-collection handheld that includes a GPS receiver and available GSM telephony. The "Dolphin 7600 with GPS" offers linear and 2D barcode scanning, includes a VGA-resolution camera for capturing signatures, and withstands multiple five-foot drops to concrete, the company says.

Maxatec HH8010 -- Sept. 24, 2009 -- The U.K. company Maxatec offers a handheld computer that runs Windows Mobile 6.1 and includes GSM/GPRS/EDGE cellular, WiFi, and Bluetooth. The HH8010 includes a 2.8-inch touchscreen display, barcode scanner, Smart Card reader, and an optional RFID reader.

QSI Qterm G56 and G58 -- Sept. 23, 2009 -- QSI Corporation offers a pair of handheld computers that will run Windows CE on 200MHz ARM9 processors. The Qterm G56 and G58 feature 320 x 240 touchscreen displays, membrane keypads, rugged cases, and an object-based Qlarity programming environment.
Mio Moov M300 and M400 -- Sept. 23, 2009 -- Mio offers two budget GPS devices that run Windows CE 5.0. Identical except for their displays, the Moov M300 and M400 have 3.5-inch and 4.3 touchscreens, respectively, text-to-speech guidance, and more than four million POIs (points of interest).

Newsmy A16HD -- Sept. 21, 2009 -- Beijing-based Newsmy offers a Windows CE PMP (portable media player) that can record 720p video and provides 1080i video output. The A16HD has a five-inch touchscreen display with 800 x 480 resolution, an HDMI port, and 16GB of flash storage.

Motorola MC9500 -- Sept. 15, 2009 -- Motorola adopted Windows Mobile for a rugged handheld computer with integrated telephony. The MC9500 includes a 3.7-inch VGA touchscreen, GSM or CDMA cellular, an optional camera and 1D or 2D barcode scanners, and field-swappable keyboards
Casio Cassiopeia DT-5300 -- Sept 14, 2009 -- Casio's rugged PDA comes with either Windows Mobile 6.5 or Windows CE 6.0. The Cassiopeia DT-5300 has a VGA display, RFID reader, 802.11b/g wireless networking, plus an optional barcode reader and two megapixel camera.

Navigon 8410 and 8450 Live -- Sept. 10, 2009 -- Navigon offers two high-end PNDs (personal navigation devices) with capacitive touchscreens, metal cases, voice command, and "Real City3D" graphics. The Windows CE-based 8410 and 8450 Live devices have five-inch displays, TMC (traffic message channel) receivers, and optional digital TV modules.

Janam XM66 and XM60+ -- Sept. 9, 2009 -- Janam offers a pair of rugged handheld computers that come with either Windows Mobile 6.1 or Windows CE 5.0. The XM66 and XM60+ have 3.5-inch touchscreen displays, Freescale i.MX31 processors with DDR memory, 1D/2D barcode scanning, and optional 802.11a/b/g or b/g wireless networking.

Handheld Nautiz X7 -- Sept. 8, 2009 -- The Handheld Group and Getac Technology announced a "strategic partnership" which has already resulted in a new Windows PDA (personal digital assistant). The ruggedized Nautiz X7 includes an 806MHz processor, three megapixel camera, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, a digital compass/altimeter, and 3G voice/data capabilities.

Motorola Symbol MT2000 and MK4000 -- Sept. 2, 2009 -- Motorola offers two Windows CE-based devices with integral barcode scanning capabilities. The Symbol MT2000 is a handheld computer that may also be tethered to laptops or POS (point of sale) systems, while the Symbol MK4000 is a self-service kiosk that lets customers check pricing or gift card balances.

Opentec RPDA 6 -- Sept. 1, 2009 -- Australian vendor Opentec offers a rugged PDA with a four-inch VGA display and is available with either Windows Mobile or Windows CE. The RPDA 6 includes a 624MHz Marvell PXA270, 128MB of RAM and 1GB of flash storage, plus Type 2 PCMICA and SD expansion slots.

Andres Industries RPDA 835 -- Aug. 20, 2009 -- The German company Andres Industries offers a Windows CE handheld computer that includes a cellular modem, 1.3 megapixel camera, plus GPS and barcode scanning options. The RPDA 835, featuring an optional flip-up display cover, is waterproof and impact-resistant.
LXE MX9 -- Aug. 19, 2009 -- LXE offers a rugged handheld computer that runs Windows CE 5.0. The MX9 includes a 3.7-inch QVGA display, GPS receiver, 802.11a/b/g wireless, optional GSM/GPRS connectivity, and a choice of keyboards.
Advantech PWS-8033M -- Jul. 27, 2009 -- Advantech offers an "ultra rugged" portable computer that runs Windows CE 5.0 or Windows Mobile 6.1. The PWS-8033M includes a 3.7-inch VGA display, a 624MHz Marvell PXA270 processor, GPS, Bluetooth, and WiFi.


Nextar Q4-MD -- Jul. 10, 2009 -- Hong Kong-based Nextar offers a PND (personal navigation device) using SiRF's SiRFatlasIV SoC (system-on-chip). The "Q4-MD" offers a 4.3-inch touchscreen display, runs Windows CE, and includes an FM receiver that downloads traffic and other information from MSN Direct.


Honeywell Dolphin 6100 -- Jul. 10, 2009 -- Honeywell's Windows-based handheld computers is intended for retail and light industrial settings. The Dolphin 6100 includes a 2.8-inch display with 320 x 240 resolution, a 1D/2D barcode scanner, 128MB of RAM, and a 28-key alphanumeric keypad.


Unitech PA600 HF -- Jul. 9, 2009 -- Unitech offers a Windows handheld computer with an integral RFID reader and 1D/2D barcode scanner. The PA600 HF includes a 3.5-inch touchscreen display, a 18-key numeric keypad, 802.11b/g and Bluetooth wireless, and survives four-foot drops.


Harris Census -- Jul. 6, 2009 -- The first state of the U.S. 2020 Census kicked off with the aid of Windows Mobile handheld computers, marketed by systems integrator Harris Corporation and reportedly manufactured by HTC. The "HTC Census" includes a 3.5-inch touchsceen display, a fingerprint sensor, a GPS receiver, and a CDMA/EV-DO data modem.


Bluebird Soft BIP-6000 -- Jun. 26, 2009 -- Korean manufacturer Bluebird Soft offers a high-end PDA with an 806MHz processor and a VGA-resolution display. The "BIP-6000" includes a 3.5-inch screen, three megapixel camera, 1D/2D barcode scanner, RFID reader, and a GSM cellular modem.


Janam XG100 -- Jun. 18, 2009 -- Janam's "gun-shaped" handheld computer has a battery integrated into its pistol grip. The XG100 runs Windows CE 6.0 on a 624MHz Marvell PXA320, and features a 3.7-inch touchscreen display, 802.11b/g and Bluetooth, barcode scanning, and a choice of keyboards.


Navigon 3310 max and 3500 max -- Jun. 12, 2009 -- Navigon's PND (personal navigation device) uses SiRF's recently unveiled SiRFatlasIV SoC (system-on-chip). The "33 max series" offers a 4.3-inch touchscreen display, has 64MB of RAM and up to 2GB of flash storage, and runs Windows CE.


Intermec CN4 and CN4e -- Jun. 5, 2009 -- Intermec's rugged Windows Mobile 6.1 handheld computers are said to convert full-page paper documents into electronic files. The CN4/CN4e and CN50 include wide-area connectivity, barcode scanners, cameras, GPS receivers, and 3.5-inch QVGA touchscreen displays.


Honeywell Dolphin 9900hc -- May 29, 2009 --Honeywell offers Windows Mobile 6.0 handheld computer designed for medical applications. The Dolphin 9900hc includes a sealed, easily sanitized case, GSM wide area networking with an accessible SIM card, 802.11b/g, Bluetooth, a digital camera, and barcode scanning capabilities.


Sharp RD-PM10 -- May 21, 2009 -- Sharp offers a Windows PMP (portable media player) that incorporates a QWERTY keyboard and extensive electronic dictionary capabilities. The "RD-PM10" features a sliding 4.3-inch touchscreen display, FM radio, voice recorder, microSD slot, and optional DMB (digital multimedia broadcasting) TV receiver.


Idtronic UHF Gun -- May 21, 2009 -- The German vendor Idtronic released a handheld Windows computer that can read RFID tags from up to two meters (approximately 6.6 feet) away. The "UHF Gun" includes 520MHz or 820MHz processors, a 3.5-inch touchscreen display, WiFi, Bluetooth, and optional wide-area connectivity.


Handheld Nautiz Eticket eTicket -- May 19, 2009 -- Handheld U.S. offers a rugged PDA featuring a smart card reader, a 806MHz processor, VGA-resolution touchscreen, and a three megapixel camera. The "Nautiz eTicket" includes a GSM cellular modem, a GPS receiver, 802.11b/g, Bluetooth, and a "more than all day" battery.

The "P37M" includes GPS, 802.11b/g wireless networking, Bluetooth 1.2, two serial ports, three USB ports, and a wired Ethernet port.


Kopin Golden-i -- May 11, 2009 -- Display manufacturer Kopin showed off this Motorola-branded computer built into a Bluetooth headset, providing a "virtual 15-inch display" via a swing-down eyepiece. The "Golden-i" incorporates speech recognition, weighs three ounces, runs more than eight hours on a charge, and runs Windows CE.


BlueRadios WiPC -- May 8, 2009 -- BlueRadios offers a "near-eye" portable media player (PMP) with a SVGA micro display. The WiFi-enabled "WiPC" weighs three ounces, offers the viewing experience of a 15-inch display when held up to the eye (left), runs Windows CE, and uses just one Watt of power.


Amrel HBS-2 -- May 8, 2009 -- Amrel's handheld biometric computer scans faces, fingers, and iris patterns and checks them in real time. The "HBS-2" runs Windows XP on a 1.6GHz Atom processor, has a five-inch touchscreen, includes three cameras and built-in flash, and has a fingerprint scanner.


Unitech PA600 MCA -- May 1, 2009 -- Unitech offers a Windows handheld computer for healthcare providers, featuring an antimicrobial case and an integral RFID reader. The PA600 MCA (mobile clinical assistant) includes a 3.5-inch touchscreen display, a 1D/2D barcode scanner, 802.11b/g and Bluetooth wireless, and survives four-foot drops.


Maxian M2 -- Apr. 30, 2009 -- Maxian offers a Windows CE 5.0-based PMP (personal music player) sporting a 3.5-inch touchscreen. The "M2" offers 480 x 320 resolution, either 8GB or 16GB of flash storage, Bluetooth 2.0, stereo speakers, and receivers for FM radio and T-DMB (terrestrial digital multimedia broadcasting).


Panasonic Strada CMP-200 and CN-MP100 -- Apr. 23, 2009 -- Panasonic offers four Windows CE-based PNDs (portable navigation devices). The "Strada Pocket" devices have five-inch touchscreen displays, sensors that help determine position when a GPS signal is lost, optional TV tuners, and the ability to store POIs (points of interest) derived from Google Search results.

The "iQ500" mates an ARM11-powered application processor from GPS chip specialist SiRF with a seven-inch 800 x 480 touchscreen, 4GB or 8GB of SD storage, and DMB reception.


Handheld Nautiz X5 -- Mar. 3, 2009 -- Handheld's rugged PDA features an 806MHz processor, VGA-resolution touchscreen, and a three megapixel camera. The "Nautiz X5" includes a GSM modem capable of HSDPA (high speed downlink packet access), a GPS receiver, 802.11b/g, Bluetooth, and a "more than all day" battery.

The "M1T" has a 500MHz dual-core CPU, an SD expansion slot, and receivers for FM radio and T-DMB (terrestrial digital multimedia broadcasting).


Honeywell Dolphin 7850 -- Dec. 16, 2008 -- Honeywell announced a data-collection handheld that scans barcodes from as far as 30 feet. The Dolphin 7850 is now available with HR (high performance), LR (long range), and ALR (advanced long range) scanning options, and runs on batteries for more than ten hours.


Two Technologies Safari -- Dec. 8, 2008 -- Two Technologies's ruggedized handheld computer targets applications including law enforcement, security, medical, and hospitality. Running Windows CE 5.0 on a 520MHz Marvell PXA270, the "Safari" includes barcode scanning, Bluetooth, WiFi, a 26- or 41-key keyboard, plus optional GPS and cellular modules.


Trimble Juno SB and SC -- Dec. 2, 2008 -- Trimble's handheld GPS systems target municipal government utility mapping and other asset management applications. The Juno SB and SC both run Windows Mobile 6.1 on 533MHz processors, and boast 3.5-inch displays, three-megapixel cameras, WiFi, Bluetooth, "all-day" battery life, and optional cellular data networking.


GuestLogix OnBoard Power Seller 2 -- Nov. 20, 2008 -- GuestLogix's Windows CE handheld computer lets airline flight attendants accept payments via credit or debit cards. The "OnBoard PowerSeller 2" includes a PIN entry keypad, an MSR (magnetic strip reader), a Smart Card reader, an imager/barcode scanner, and a thermal printer.


Toradex Limestone -- Nov 20, 2008 -- Toradex's design kit targets creation of customer-specific PDAs based on Windows CE. The "Limestone" kit features an 806MHz Marvell PXA320 processor, a "rich" board-to-board extension interface, plus an optional battery, case, and cover.


TeleNav Shotgun -- Nov. 13, 2008 -- TeleNav's Windows CE GPS device includes a built-in GPRS cellular modem. The Telenav Shotgun offers real-time traffic updates and "intelligent rerouting," provides online map and POI (points of interest) updating, and lets users send destinations to their devices from desktop PCs.


Insignia Internet Connected GPS NS-CNV10 and NS-CNV20 -- Oct. 22, 2008 -- Using its Insignia house brand, Best Buy offers two Windows CE GPS devices that include built-in cellular modems. The "Insignia Internet Connected GPS" NS-CNV10 and NS-CNV20 provide real-time traffic updates, allow searching Google, and let users email destinations to the devices from desktop PCs.


Asus R710 -- Oct. 10, 2008 -- Asus' Windows CE PND (personal navigation device) projects directions, speed, and other information onto a car windshield. In addition to its HUD (heads up display), the "R710" includes a five-inch touchscreen display, Bluetooth, a microSD expansion slot, plus A/V playback.


Nikon Media Port UP -- Oct. 8, 2008 -- Nikon's Windows CE-based PMP (personal media player) includes WiFi and a web browser. The Media Port UP, which reportedly runs Windows CE, incorporates an extensible VGA-resolution display, headphones, five-way controller, 4GB or 8GB of storage, and an optional motion sensor.


Mio Knight Rider GPS -- Sep. 30, 2008 -- Mio's PND (personal navigation device) targets fans of the original Knight Rider TV series. The Knight Rider GPS runs Windows CE 5.0, has a 4.3-inch display, includes 1GB of flash memory, and announces routings via voice synthesis and flashing LEDs.

Kinwei Technologies KW-GM4306TG -- Sep. 24, 2008 -- Kinwei Techologies has announced a Windows CE GPS system that comes with a game joypad. The KW-GM4306TG has a 4.3-inch touchscreen display, 400MHz processor, 64MB of RAM, and 256 of flash storage, Bluetooth, plus an SD/MMC expansion slot.


Psion Neo -- Sep. 22, 2008 -- Psion Teklogix's Windows CE 5.0 handheld computer targets light-duty warehousing, retail, utilities, and parcel delivery applications. The "Neo" includes a "unique" tilted display, 2.7-inch touchscreen, optional 1D barcode scanner, and available wireless networking.


Intermec CK3 -- Sep. 10, 2008 -- Intermec's Windows Mobile 6.1 targets warehouse operations, but also offers a "slim form factor appropriate for in-store settings." The CK3 features a 520MHz processor, 802.11a/b/g wireless, 1D/2D barcode scanning, VoIP communications, and an optional RFID reader.


Carlson Surveyor and Surveyor+ -- Sep. 2, 2008 -- Carlson Software's "Surveyor" and "Surveyor+" are ruggedized handheld computers intended for surveyors. They run Windows Mobile 6.1, include Carlson's SurvCE software, and offer up to eight hours of battery life.


Nurian F1 Avatar -- Aug. 25, 2008 -- Korean firm Nurian offers this PMP (portable media player) running Windows CE 5.0. The "F1 Avatar" includes an RMI Au1250 CPU, 4.3-inch display with 480 x 272 resolution, 30GB hard disk drive, DMB-T (digital multimedia broadcast terrestrial) receiver, and video I/O.


Two Technologies Hydrus -- Aug. 18, 2008 -- This ruggedized handheld computer is claimed to offer 40 hours of battery life. Running Windows CE 5.0 on a 624MHz Marvell PXA270 processor, the "Hydrus" includes a five megapixel camera, WiFi, Bluetooth, and a customizable 55-key keyboard.


Meazura MEZ1500 -- Aug. 7, 2008 -- New Zealand company Aceeca International offers this ruggedized handheld computer with Windows CE. The Meazura MEZ1500 has a Marvell PXA270 processor, and a proprietary "MZIO" expansion slot that carries SPI (serial peripheral interface) signals, allowing the attachment of custom A/D (analog/digital) converter modules.


Cowon P5 -- Jul. 23, 2008 -- Cowon's portable media player (PMP) has a haptic user interface, vibrating to give the illusion of physical button presses. The "P5" runs Windows CE 5.0, has a five-inch touchscreen with 800 x 480 resolution, and offers 40GB, 60GB, or 80GB of storage, says Cowon.


Azentek SmartMirror -- Jul. 22, 2008 -- U.S. motorists can now put a Windows CE-based navigation, safety, and entertainment system in their car's rear-view mirror. Azentek's SmartMirror features a 4-inch touchscreen monitor, rear-view camera, Bluetooth, built-in speakers, 3D maps, and an SD expansion slot.


Honeywell Dolphin 9900 -- Jul. 7, 2008 -- Honeywell's Dolphin 9900 is a Windows Mobile 6.0-based "industrial grade" mobile computer targeting transportation, retail, warehousing, logistics, and healthcare. The Dolphin 9900 includes integrated GPS, GSM wide area networking, 802.11b/g, Bluetooth, a digital camera, and barcode scanning capabilities, according to the company.


Idtronic Ezit II -- Jun. 25, 2008 -- Idtronic's Ezit II is a handheld computer aimed at RFID and barcode scanning applications. The Ezit II includes SD and CompactFlash expansion slots, a 3.5-inch QVGA touchscreen display, numeric keypad, RS232 port, and optional GPS or GSM capabilities.


Nordic ID PL3000 Cross Dipole -- Jun. 20, 2008 -- Nordic ID's Windows CE 6.0-based handheld computer is capable of reading RFID tags over distances of up to 13 feet. The PL3000 Cross Dipole incorporates a pistol grip, forward-facing antenna, barcode scanner, WiFi, Bluetooth, and GSM WAN capabilities.

Magellan MobileMapper 6 -- Feb. 21, 2008 -- Magellan's Windows Mobile-based handheld GPS receiver targets GIS (geographic information system) data collection. The MobileMapper 6 boasts real-time accuracy between two and five meters, compatibility with Satellite-Based Augmentation Systems (SBAS), Bluetooth, and a two-megapixel camera.


Janam XM60 -- Feb. 12, 2008 -- Janam's rugged handheld computer is based on Windows CE 5.0. Intermec CK61ex -- Jan 30, 2008 -- Intermec's CK61ex is a rugged handheld computer initially offered with either Windows CE 5.0 or Windows Mobile 5.0. Metrologic Instruments SP5700 OptimusPDA -- Jan. 14, 2008 -- Metrologic Instruments offers this ruggedized Windows CE 5.0-based PDA with available bar code scanning and GSM/GRPS wide-area networking. The SP5700 OptimusPDA also includes optional Bluetooth and 802.11b/g wireless networking, as well as an optional external GPS receiver.


Huaqiang NAVO N2043 -- Jan. 8, 2008 -- Chinese GPS specialist Huaqiang adopted Swiss GPS receiver technology for this Windows CE 5.0-based personal navigation device (PND). The NAVO N2043 features U-blox's LEA-5S GPS module, an ARM11 processor running at 533MHz, 64MB of RAM, and 64MB of flash.


Freescale i.MX21 3.5-inch TFT handheld -- Jan. 03, 2008 -- Future X Technology of Taiwan offers this compact development platform based on Freescale Semiconductor's i.MX21 system-on-chip (SoC). Known only as the "Freescale i.MX21 3.5-inch TFT handheld," the device allows creation of portable devices that run Windows CE.


Ramos V80 -- Jan. 03, 2008 -- Ramos' V80 is a portable media player (PMP) with 2GB of memory, along with a microSD/TransFlash slot that accepts up to 2GB of additional storage. The 2.8-inch display has 320 x 240 pixel resolution, and can display videos in formats such as AVI, ASF, FLV, and MPEG-4 at up to 25 frames per second.


Maxian E900T -- Jan. 2, 2008 -- Maxian has introduced a personal media player (PMP) that features Windows CE 5.0 and a 4.3-inch touchscreen display. The E900T outputs HD video, includes a receiver for terrestrial digital multimedia broadcasting (T-DMB) television broadcasts, and offers optional GPS functionality.


Glospace SKG-70 -- Dec. 28, 2007 -- Glospace's mobile navigation device works both with American GPS satellites and the Russia's GLONASS system. The SGK-70 runs Windows CE 5.0, has a 12-channel GLONASS receiver and a 20-channel GPS receiver, and features a seven-inch touchscreen display.


Socket Mobile SoMo 650 M-HS -- Dec. 13, 2007 -- While most manufacturers are rushing to add wireless capabilities to their Windows Mobile devices, Socket Mobile Inc. did just the opposite, at the request of security-conscious customers. The SoMo 650 M-HS is otherwise identical to the SoMo 650, but, by design, lacks Bluetooth and WiFi.


Michelin X-970T -- Dec. 6, 2007 -- Known for tires and restaurant guides, Michelin offers this in-car GPS unit that runs Windows CE 5.0. The compact X-970T employs the SiRF starIII chipset and a 300MHz Samsung processor along with 64MB of RAM and 128MB of flash memory.


Wasp Barcode Technologies WPA1200 -- Nov. 29, 2007 -- Wasp Barcode Technologies has introduced a "PDA-sized" portable data terminal with an integral laser scanner. Featuring 18 dedicated keys, the WPA1200 has a QVGA (320 x 240 pixel) display, a Marvell PXA270 clocked at 520MHz, and 64MB of RAM.


Cowon Q5W -- Nov. 26, 2007 -- Cowon's Q5W was said to be the company's first based on the Windows CE 5.0 Professional operating system. It features a 5-inch WVGA (800 x 480) display plus Bluetooth and 802.11b/g wireless connectivity.


Pharos GPS 150 and GPS 250 -- Nov. 15, 2007 -- Pharos's two GPS systems are based on Windows CE 4.2, the Freescale i.MX31 processor, and the SiRF starIII chipset. The Pharos Drive GPS 250 has a 4.3-inch touchscreen display, while the technically similar GPS 150 has a 3.9-inch screen.


Trimble Nomad 800LC and 800LE -- , 2007 -- Trimble's Nomad 800LC and 800LE are versions of the previously announced Nomad. However, the Nomad 800LC comes with a 2 megapixel digital camera, while the Nomad 800LE comes with both the camera and an integrated laser bar code scanner. The 21-ounce devices offer a full VGA-resolution display and are based on a 806 MHz Marvell PXA320 processor.


Intermec CK61 -- Nov. 6, 2007 -- Intermec's rugged handheld computer that offers the choice of either Windows CE 5.0 or Windows Mobile 5.0. The CK61 comes with "all day battery capacity" and optional barcode scanning, and can withstand repeated six-foot drops.


RWC RM-A4000 -- Nov. 6, 2007 -- The Windows CE 5.0-based RM-A4000 from RWC Ltd. is a GPS unit designed for motorcyclists. Using an ARM-based Samsung 2440 processor and 64MB of RAM, it uses Bluetooth to transmit spoken route-guidance prompts to a supplied in-helmet headset.


CipherLab 9400 -- Oct. 30, 2007 -- CipherLab's Windows CE-powered data collection handheld that includes barcode scanners and the ability to read and write RFID tags. The 9400 series also offers optional WiFi and quad-band GSM/GRPS/EDGE capabilities.


Ectaco iTravl -- Oct. 29, 2007 -- This electronic dictionary and translation device based on Windows CE is claimed to use "the world's most sophisticated speech recognition" to understand what a user says, then provide spoken translation from English to Chinese, French, German, Italian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish. The iTravl can translate approximately 63,000 travel-related phrases per language, then say them "like a native-speaker" using its speech synthesis functionality.


Satmap Active 10 -- Oct. 25, 2007 -- The Satmap Active 10 is a "sport GPS" system specifically aimed at those who want to enjoy the U.K.'s national parks. It runs Windows CE on an ARM9-based processor and, in addition to GPS, includes a 2-axis electronic compass.


Psion Teklogix Ikon -- Oct. 25, 2007 -- This rugged device that is positioned as a PDA, though it also offers optional cellular voice and data communications. Running either Windows CE or Windows Mobile, the Ikon has a full VGA display and is said to survives drops from 5 feet onto polished concrete.


LXE MX8 -- Oct. 19, 2007 -- LXE's handheld data-collection computer allows data input via keyboard, bar-code scanner, or voice recognition. It is based on a Marvell PXA270 processor clocked at 520 MHz, backed by 128 MB of DRAM and 128 MB of flash memory.


Alpine Blackbird PMD-B200 -- Oct. 17, 2007 -- Alpine's Windows CE-based GPS system can be used as a portable, with a windshield cradle, or docked in one of the company's A/V head units. The Blackbird PMD-B200 includes built-in Bluetooth and a tuner for receiving traffic information.


Datalogic Kyman -- Oct. 15, 2007 -- The Kyman is a rugged, data capture handheld with a built-in laser scanner. It runs either Windows CE 5.0 or Windows Mobile 6.0, and includes 802.11b/g WiFi with Cisco Compatible Extensions (CCX V3), GSM/GPRS/EDGE cellular compatibility, and Bluetooth.


Sunrise Telecom CM2000 -- Oct. 11, 2007 -- Sunrise Telecom's handheld cable modem network analyzer runs Windows CE 5.0 and displays graphical data on a 6.4-inch VGA touchscreen. The CM2000 has a built-in DOCSIS 2.0 (data over cable service interface specifications) cable modem, and is also capable of VoIP testing.


HyOn Xent X3 -- Oct. 9, 2007 -- HyOn's portable multimedia player (PMP) includes both a Terrestrial Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (T-DMB) receiver and a GPS receiver. The Windows CE 5.0-based Xent X3 also features a custom "Mondrian-style" user interface.


CarlsonMINI -- Oct. 5, 2007 -- The CarlsonMINI is a ruggedized data collection device that runs Windows Mobile 5. It is bundled with the company's SurvCE 2.0 surveying software, and is aimed at users such as surveyors and contractors.


Shenzhen Zhuangjia ZJ-PMP-PC -- Oct. 3, 2007 -- Shenzhen Zhuangjia Technology Co. Ltd. offers this wide-screen portable multimedia player (PMP) based on Windows CE 5.0. The ZJ-PMP-PC incorporates a GPS receiver, WiFi, and is said to have "game systems onboard."


4P Mobile Data Processing FDA600 -- Oct. 2, 2007 -- 4P Mobile Data Processing's novel device integrates a phone, scanner, card reader, and printer. The Windows CE-powered FDA600 Field Digital Assistant is said to be suitable for sales, field service, or mobile ticketing and fare collection applications.


Roper Mobile Technology DAP CE3000B -- Sep. 28, 2007 -- Roper Mobile Technology's handheld computer is intended to provide personal identification verification (PIV) at permanent or temporary security checkpoints. The DAP CE3000B runs Windows CE and offers "endcaps" that can include a smart card reader, fingerprint sensor, or barcode reader.


AXS-200 SharpTESTER -- Sep. 27, 2007 -- Exfo's modular network tester features a color display with a graphical user interface (GUI) based on Windows CE. The AXS-200 SharpTESTER platform is available in versions for Ethernet, copper/DSL/triple-play, and fiber-optic.


Hand Held Products Dolphin 7850 -- Sep. 26, 2007 -- Hand Held Products (subsequently acquired by Honeywell) offered this Windows Mobile 5.0-based data-collection handheld, featuring an ergonomic design, rugged construction, and power management claimed to let it be used more than ten hours without recharging. It includes WiFi and uses Hand Held's Adaptus Imaging Technology 5.0, said to capture linear and 2D bar codes as well as digital images.


LXE HX3 -- Sep. 19, 2007 -- LXE's wireless handheld computer uses voice recognition to capture data for warehouse applications. The HX3 runs Windows CE 5.0 but lacks a display or standard keyboard. Instead, it has three status LEDs, plus four large keys with easily-distinguished shapes, mappable to standard keyboard equivalents.


Datalogic Skorpio Gun -- Sep. 13, 2007 -- Datalogic's pistol-grip mobile computer is designed for intensive bar code scanning in warehouses and retail environments. The Skorpio Gun, available with long- or short-range laser scanners, is based on Windows CE 5.0 and can resist "multiple drops, strong shocks, and repetitive tumbles."


Magellan MobileMapper CX -- Sep. 11, 2007 -- Magellan's handheld GPS receiver for GIS (geographic information system) users is claimed to provide sub-meter accuracy in real time. It runs Windows CE 5.0 and features Bluetooth wireless networking.


Commodore Gravel in Pocket -- Sep. 05, 2007 -- Commodore's unusually named Gravel in Pocket is a Windows CE 5.0-based portable music player (PMP). The rounded device has an 802.11 b/g wireless adapter and an unusual rear-mounted shuttle control.


Navigon P9611 -- Sep. 04, 2007 --Navigon's "extremely slim" GPS unit was styled by Porsche Design, The P9611 features a 4.3-inch display with a 16:9 aspect ratio, a 520MHz Marvell PXA 270 processor, and Windows CE.


Toshiba Gigabeat T401 and T401S -- Aug. 28, 2007 -- Toshiba's Gigabeat T401 and T401S are flash-based portable media players (PMPs) that run Windows Mobile. At under half an inch thick, the Gigabeat T401 features a 2.4-inch display and 4 GB of storage, while the model T401S adds WiFi


Horizon Melody GPS-3505 -- Aug. 28, 2007 -- Horizon Melody's compact automotive GPS system has a 3.5-inch touchscreen. The Windows CE 4.2-based GPS-3505 comes with a car bracket and power adapter, and includes both a built-in speaker and stereo output.


Clarion MAP770/DrivTrax P5 -- Aug. 16, 2007 -- Clarion's seven-ounce PNDs are meant for use in cars, on bicycles, or on foot. The MAP770 (in Europe) and DrivTrax P5 (in Japan) run the Windows CE 5.0 "core" OS, and can play WMA/MP3 files and display JPEG/BMP images.


iRiver NV -- Aug. 14, 2007 -- IRiver's combination portable media player (PMP) and GPS device features both a 7-inch LCD screen and an organic LED (OLED) display for showing menus. The iRiver NV runs Windows CE 5.0, with a custom GUI created in Adobe Flash Lite 2.1.


Newman Newsmy MiniAll VX1000 -- Aug. 13, 2007 -- Newman bills this device as a combination PDA, PMP (portable media player), game console, and "mobile Internet machine." Shaped like a large game console, the VX1000 has directional pads on either side of its 4-inch, 480 x 272 pixel touch screen. The Newsmy MiniAll VX1000 runs Windows CE 5.0 and includes integral WiFi.



Yukyung Viliv P2 and X2 -- Aug. 7, 2007 -- Yukyung's pair of related portable media players (PMPs) run Windows CE, receive digital TV, and have built-in GPS. The Viliv P2 NAVI is hard-disk based and can double as a PDA, while the X2 uses SDHC (secure digital high capacity) storage.

iRiver W10 -- Jul. 2, 2007 -- iRiver's W10 is a Windows CE-based portable media player (PMP). In addition to playback of numerous multimedia formats, the W10 integrates an FM tuner, WiFi positioning system (WPS) technology, and VoIP phone-calling capabilities.


Farm Works Titan RH -- Jun. 28, 2007 -- Farm Works Software's Windows CE-powered handheld computer is designed for farming applications including mapping, soil sampling, and field scouting. The Titan RH includes a built-in GPS receiver that employs WAAS (Wide Area Augmentation System) for greater accuracy.



Intermec CK31ex -- Jun. 28, 2007 -- Intermec's CK31ex has "integrated near-far imaging technology" that allows the Windows CE-based device to read barcodes and other symboligies at distances from six inches to 50 feet. Its auto-focus scan engine reads and decodes 1D and 2D barcodes as well as composite and postal codes, and can also read barcodes printed on plain paper at long distances.


Psion Teklogix Workabout Pro -- Jun. 21, 2007 -- Psion Teklogix's Workabout Pro is powered by Windows CE 5.0 or 6.0, and offers built-in barcode and RFID scanning, GPS, Bluetooth, and WiFi capabilities. It offers wide-area connectivity via AT&T.



Data Evolution Corporation VGA E3 -- Jun. 20, 2007 -- Data Evolution Corporation's VGA-resolution PFA has WiFi, Bluetooth, and GPS. It includes a 1.3 megapixel camera, and is also available with an optional GSM telephony module.

IWave iW-Rugged-PDA -- May 8, 2007 -- This reference design for military PDAs is powered by a 520MHz Marvell PXA270 and equipped with 128MB of SDRAM and 512MB of flash storage memory. It also includes a 3.5-inch QVGA display, USB 1.1 host and device ports, two serial ports, built-in microphone, keypad, and audio out.


Psion Teklogix Workabout Pro -- May 7, 2007 -- Psion Teklogix's Workabout Pros were described as a "second generation" in the company's line of rugged industrial handheld computers. The devices feature a full VGA display and a 520MHz PXA270 processor, and are available with either Windows CE 5.0 or Windows Mobile 6.0.


Trimble Juno ST -- Apr. 24, 2007 -- Trimble's Juno ST GPS/GIS (Global Positioning System / Geographic Information System) targets enterprises and government organizations that need a handheld positioning system for collecting data in the field. T-Mobile Ameo -- Jan. 25, 2007 -- This converged PDA/mobile phone can be used with or without the QWERTY keyboard that attaches to the device with a magnetic strip. The Ameo is based on HTC's Athena platform and runs Windows Mobile 5.0 on a 624 MHz Bulverde processor with an 8 GB disk. The unit will be available in Germany and the Netherlands starting in March.


Fujitsu Siemens LOOX N100 -- Jan. 10, 2007 -- This stylish gadget is a combination GPS navigator and music player packaged in a "trendy design small enough to hang on a key chain." The N100 runs "Windows CE 5.0 Core" on a 300 MHz Samsung processor with 64 MB of RAM, and includes a 1 GB flash SD card for data storage.


Datalogic Memor -- Dec. 21, 2006 -- This lightweight handheld features an integrated laser or CCD barcode reader plus wireless communication capabilities and is aimed at entry-level data collection applications in the retail market. It runs Windows CE 5.0 on a PXA255 processor with 64 MB of RAM and 128 MB of flash. The small and slim form-factor makes it usable with one hand and reduces operator fatigue.


Above-Net Top100P -- Jul. 20, 2006 -- This lightweight, "ultramobile PC" targets applications such as mobile workforce automation and point of presence sales. It runs Windows CE 4.2 on a 400 MHz PXA255 and integrates a thermal printer, magnetic stripe and smartcard reader, and an optional check reader.


Tripod Data Systems Recon -- Jul. 7, 2006 -- Tripod, a subsidiary of Trimble Navigation, has updated its Recon battle-hardened PDA that meets mil specs for water tightness, extreme temperatures, and drop resistance. The new version runs Windows Mobile 5.0 instead of Windows CE and offers up to 256 MB of flash memory.


Sitec Systems MVP-150 -- Jun. 23, 2006 -- The MVP-150, running Windows CE 4.2, combines a portable media player with GPS navigation. The device comes with either a 20 GB or 30 GB 1.8-inch hard disk and its 4-inch TFT screen supports wide QVGA resolution of 480 x 272. A PAL/NTSC video output supports viewing on a TV monitor.


Exfo FTB-200 network tester -- Jan. 10, 2006 -- Requiring both hands, the FTB200 implements key testing and troubleshooting tasks on fiber-optic and copper network links. Datalogic Jet family -- Dec. 6, 2005 -- The Windows CE-based "Jet" industrial strength PDAs are aimed at a broad range of supply chain management applications, including planning, production, warehousing, and transportation. The devices offer a wide range of communications and data capture options, and feature "unique Italian design" in a compact, ergonomic package.


Asus A636 -- Nov. 17, 2005 -- The GPS-enabled A636 runs Windows Mobile 5.0 and features a "screen lock" that prevents accidental activation of functions. It runs a 416 MHz XScale processor with 64 MB of SDRAM and 128 MB of Flash. GPS functionality is provided by an integrated SiRFstarIII chipset and a rotating 25 square-mm patch antenna maximizes reception in either display orientation.


Mobile Crossing Waypoint 100 & 200 -- Nov. 4, 2005 -- This pair of GPS-enabled handhelds can download maps directly from the Internet using a Bluetooth-enabled cellphone. The units run Windows Mobile Premium Edition on a 400 MHz PXA 260 processor with 64 MB of SDRAM and 160 MB of Flash, of which 32 MB is reserved for the operating system, and 128 MB is available for map data.

Garmin iQue M4 Pocket PC with GPS -- Oct. 31, 2005 -- The iQue M4 boasts a new "highly sensitive" SiRF GPS receiver, and comes pre-loaded with "highly detailed" street data for the entire US, Canada, and Puerto Rico. Like its predecessor the M3, it runs Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition on a PXA271 processor. The M4 incorporates larger, more intuitive navigational icons, making it possible to select icons with a finger rather than a stylus.


Motorola HC700-L -- Oct. 17, 2005 -- Although Motorola has long supplied "purpose-built" mobile devices to specific customers, the HC700-L is the company's first foray into "off-the-shelf" rugged handhelds. It runs either Windows Mobile for Pocket PC Phone Edition or Windows CE on a 416 MHz PXA270 processor with 64 or 128 MB each of SDRAM and Flash.


Juniper Systems Archer Field PC -- Oct. 11, 2005 -- This rugged handheld is aimed at a broad range of field applications such as environmental consulting, land surveying, and wildlife resources. It runs Windows Mobile 5.0 on a 520 MHz PXA270. The unit is housed in a waterproof, shockproof magnesium case sealed to IP67 with an "easy-to-grip" elastomer overmold.


Trimble Navigation GeoXH -- Oct. 4, 2005 -- Trimble claims "subfoot accuracy" for the GeoXH GPS field computer running Windows Mobile 5 on an XScale processor. The GeoXH is based on Trimble's H-Star technology, which greatly reduces the time required to collect high accuracy GPS data in the field.


HP iPAQ hx2x90 series -- Sep. 26, 2005 -- The three devices in this series, 2190, 2490, and 2790, are the same hardware platforms as the hx2x00 series described below but running Windows Mobile 5.0. All three feature "HP ProtectTools," secured by Credant Technologies's "Mobile Guardian" client security software. The hx2790 includes a biometric fingerprint reader.


Dell Axim X51, X51v -- Sep. 21, 2005 -- The X51 has a conventional 3.5-inch QVGA display, while the X51v features a full VGA 3.7-inch display. Both units run Windows Mobile 5.0 on PXA270 processors with a choice of clock speeds ranging from 416 to 624 MHz. An optional "presentation bundle" for the X51v allows connection to an external VGA display or projector.


Navman Personal Interactive Navigator (PiN) 570 -- Sep. 19, 2005 -- Runs Windows Mobile 2003, features an integrated flip-up GPS receiver and comes with software for turn-by-turn navigation. It's based on a 266 MHz Samsung processor with 64 MB of RAM and a 3.5-inch QVGA transflective LCD touchscreen display.


Mio A201 -- Sep. 15, 2005 -- The A201 features a rotating GPS antenna that allows users to navigate in both portrait and landscape modes. It runs Windows Mobile 5.0 on a 520MHz PXA270 processor with Bluetooth support. The device features the SirfStar III GPS receiver.


Two Technologies JETT-RFID+ -- Aug. 18, 2005 -- The customizable JETT-RFID+ employs a field upgradeable Software Defined Radio (SDR) architecture to "future-proof" its RFID capabilities. It runs Windows CE 4.2 on an XScale processor and features an adjustable rotating antenna that enables reading 13.56MHz RFID tags in virtually any orientation.


Labcal Be.U Mobile -- Aug. 4, 2005 -- This rugged handheld combines a fingerprint reader with a smart card reader to perform mobile ID verification and document authentication. It runs Windows CE 5.0 on a PXA270 processor with 128 MB of RAM and 32 MB of Flash. 802,11b WiFi is built-in. GSM and CDMA cellular are available as options.


SmarTerminal SmartMate-RF13 and SmartMate-2D -- Jul. 28, 2005 -- The SmartMate-RF13 features an RFID reader with an internal antenna while the SmartMate-2D offers a 2D image scanner. Both devices run Windows CE on a PXA255 processor, incorporate 802.11b and Bluetooth, and are sealed to the IP65 environmental standard.


Tripod Data Systems Ranger 300X and 500X -- Jul. 18, 2005 -- This pair of heavy-duty handhelds running Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition for Pocket PCs on Intel XScale processors are intended very harsh operating environments, satisfying MIL-STD-810F standards for surviving shock, vibration, and temperature extremes. Bluetooth is standard on the 500X, optional on the 300X. SD and CompactFlash slots support memory and peripheral expansion.


Symbol MC1000 -- Jul. 18, 2005 -- The rugged, value-priced MC1000 is a light industrial tool for mobile bar code scanning and data entry applications in retail, manufacturing, warehouse, and logistics. It runs Windows CE 4.2 on an Intel XScale processor. The device combines a high degree of ruggedness with "a highly ergonomic and lightweight design."

MP2 Solutions MRT300 -- Jun. 14, 2005 -- The MRT300 is a rugged POS terminal that combines WWAN, WLAN, barcode scanner, printer, and magnetic stripe reader. It runs Windows Mobile software for Pocket PCs on a 520 MHz Intel PXA270 processor with 64 MB of RAM and 64 MB of Flash memory.


i-mate PDA2 -- Jun. 2, 2005 -- In addition to tri-band GSM/GPRS, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth, the i-mate PDA2 comes preloaded with Skype VoIP software for making low-cost phone calls across the Internet. The device runs Windows Mobile on a 520 MHz Intel XScale processor with 128 MB of RAM and 64 MB of Flash and is "tuned for heavy data processing," according to the company.


Intermec 730 I-Safe -- Apr. 12, 2005 -- The 730 I-Safe, based on Windows Mobile for Pocket PC, is UL-certified to be safe for use in potentially explosive environments. The device runs Windows Mobile for Pocket PC on a 400 MHz PXA255 processor, with 64 MB of RAM and 64 MB of Flash. It includes built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, and an SDIO card slot.


Intelligent Instrumentation LANpoint Mobile -- Apr. 8, 2005 -- This handheld complements II's line of rugged terminals running on Windows CE. It runs Windows CE 4.1 on a 400 MHz PXA255 processor, with 64 MB of RAM and 48 MB of Flash memory. The company characterizes the device as an "open architecture" handheld that takes advantage of "current and future technology" and offers a range of options.


Intermec CK60 -- Apr. 5, 2005 -- The rugged CK60, aimed at the "direct store delivery" market, comes with either Windows CE 5.0 or Windows Mobile for Pocket PCs. It features a "non-volatile memory" that preserves applications and databases if the battery runs down.


Mio 136 -- Mar. 25, 2005 -- This Windows CE powered handheld GPS navigation device comes with an extensive street atlas of the North American continent and Hawaii. The Mio 136, which also includes a built-in MP3 player, is characterized as an inexpensive alternative to built-in automotive GPS systems.


Mio 168 RS -- Mar. 21, 2005 -- This device is a follow-on to Mio's 168 introduced in late 2003. The new device features a substantially improved and enhanced GPS receiver, according to a company spokesperson.


Lenovo ET960 -- Mar. 3, 2005 -- The ET960, running Windows Mobile 2003 SE on a PXA272 processor, has several interesting features. It boasts a 10,000 entry address book. The handset function and PDA function are completely separable, enabling the device to be used on an airplane. And finally, the 1.3 megapixel camera is mounted on a "rotatable module" that swivels the lens through 180 degrees.


Spacetime Golden Communication Technology Injoy -- Feb. 25, 2005 -- This high-end PDA/phone combo running Windows Mobile 2003 SE is specifically targeted at streaming media and video-on-demand (VOD) applications requiring high data bandwidth It uses CDMA2000 1X to achieve the required transfer rates. The Injoy is powered by a 400MHz Samsung 2440 ARM9v4 processor equipped with 64 MB of SDRAM and 128 MB of Flash memory.


T-Mobile MDA IV -- Feb. 8, 2005 -- The MDA IV "mini-laptop" features two cameras, a full QWERTY keyboard, and a unique swiveling VGA resolution display. It runs Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition on a 520 MHz Intel XScale processor. The device will initially be introduced in Europe but will probably also find its way to North America.


DAP Microflex CE3240 -- Feb. 3, 2005 -- The lightweight, modularly expandable CE3240 targets mobile computing and data collection applications in harsh and demanding environments such as utilities, field service, emergency services, public safety, energy, transportation, and logistics. It runs Windows CE 5.0 on a 400 MHz Intel PXA255 processor.


Olympus "Tough Digital Assistants" -- Feb. 1, 2005 -- Olympus calls this pair of rugged PDA-like devices "Tough Digital Assistants" (TDAs). The slim, light-weight TDAs run Windows CE 4.2 on a Freescale MXL processor with up to 128MB RAM and 256MB Flash. They offer built-in Bluetooth and optional 802.11b wireless. Olympus, best known for its cameras and optics, says that it has a "long standing history" of designing and building wireless handheld devices for an unspecified OEM partner.


Mio 268 and 269 -- Jan. 28, 2005 -- This pair of GPS handhelds runs Windows CE 4.2 on a 300 MHz Xscale processor. The 269 includes a 1-inch, 2.5 GB hard drive that holds complete map data for 22 European countries and still has 600 MB left over for MP3 files.


Intermec CK31 -- Jan. 18, 2005 -- A ruggedized upgrade to its CK30 mobile computer. The CK31 runs Windows CE on an 400 MHz XScale processor, includes a built-in barcode scanner and 802.11b/g Wi-Fi wireless, and is versatile enough to support both legacy terminal emulation and modern graphical, Web-based applications, Intermec says.


Intermec CN2 -- Jan. 14, 2005 -- The CN2 measures just 5.8 x 3.4 x 1.4 inches in size, small enough to fit in a shirt pocket. It runs Windows CE 4.2 on a 400 MHz Intel PXA255 processor, incorporates Wi-Fi and a bar code scanner, and features an ergonomic design that supports single-handed operation.


Symbol MC3000 -- Jan. 12, 2005 -- A small, lightweight, rugged mobile computer targeted at the retail and transportation and logistics industries. The MC3000 runs Windows CE 4.2 on an Intel PXA270 processor, and features a 320x320 resolution screen, 30 percent larger than typical PDAs' 320x240 (QVGA) screens. The optional laser scanner head rotates to adjust scanning orientation for increased comfort.


Psion Workabout Pro S -- Jan. 10, 2005 -- The Workabout Pro S is a compact, numeric keypad version of Psion's line of Workabout Pro rugged handheld computers. It offers the same customization capabilities, expansion, task-specific ergonomics, and radio and data input options as the Pro C, but in a more compact and lightweight form-factor, Psion says.


Garmin iQue M5 Pocket PC with GPS -- Jan. 5, 2005 -- Garmin International, best known for its general aviation electronics, has introduced a Pocket PC that includes a GPS receiver along with Bluetooth wireless technology. The iQue M5 includes Garmin's "Que" mapping and navigation software, and provides voice-prompted turn-by-turn navigation. The device runs Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition on a 416 MHz Intel PXA272.


Casio DT-X10 -- Dec. 8, 2004 -- The DT-X10 rugged handheld terminal incorporates a CMOS imager and various wireless options, and is aimed primarily at the transportation market. The device runs Windows CE on an Intel PXA255 processor equipped with 32MB of RAM and 64MB of Flash, and boasts a 3.5-inch QVGA color TFT LCD screen.


HP iPAQ hx2x00 series -- Nov. 30, 2004 -- Hewlett-Packard's new line of iPAQ Pocket PCs runs Windows Mobile 2003 SE on Intel PXA270 processors. The three PDAs boast full-color QVGA displays usable in both portrait and landscape modes, Bluetooth wireless, CompactFlash and SD card expansion, and security enhancements including a fingerprint sensor in the high-end model. The entry-level hx2100 (shown here) is available now, while the higher-end hx2400 and hx2700 are due for release in December.


Casio IT-10 -- Nov. 19, 2004 -- The IT-10 Enterprise PDA is shock, water, and dust resistant making it suitable for use in tough environments. It runs Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition, and boasts a VGA resolution TFT LCD with LED backlight. Casio is targeting the device at retail store management, sales force automation, equipment and facilities maintenance and management, and market research applications.


Freedom Scientific PAC Mate -- Oct. 22, 2004 -- This all-purpose computer, running Windows CE on an Intel XScale processor, behaves like a full-featured laptop that acommodates users with visual disabilities. Freedom Scientific's "JAWS" technology allows Braille composition and speech output with Pocket PC compatibility. The unit includes either a QWERTY-style or braille keyboard, two Type II CF slots, USB, and IrDA ports. Models are about 10 x 6 in. in size and weigh under 2 lbs. including battery.


Symbol MC50 -- Oct. 19, 2004 -- a rugged handheld computer in a PDA form-factor called an "enterprise digital assistant" (EDA). The MC50 runs Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition for Pocket PCs, on a 520 MHz Intel XScale processor and is available in two versions -- one with a simple navigation keypad, and the other with a QWERTY keyboard.


Dell Axim X50 Series -- Oct. 12, 2004 -- All three devices in this series are based on Intel PXA270 XScale processors and run Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition with Windows Media Player 10 Mobile. Key features include processor speeds up to 624MHz, integrated Bluetooth wireless connectivity, CompactFlash and SDIO/MMC expansion slots, up to 128MB built-in flash memory, and screen sizes up to full-VGA (640x480) resolution.


Woodhead Industries MIG 380 -- Oct. 8, 2004 -- is an industrial grade, Windows CE based PDA using a 200MHz Motorola ARM9-based Dragonball MX. It features built-in Bluetooth and infrared communications. It is sealed against water and dust to IP54 environmental standards, and withstands drops up to four feet while operating, according to Woodhead.


Toshiba e830 -- Sep. 16, 2004 -- This successor to the e800 runs Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition on a 520MHz Intel PXA272 processor. Whereas the e800 offers a choice of either 802.11 or Bluetooth wireless, the e830 offer both as standard.


Psion 7530 -- Sep. 14, 2004 -- This "ultra-rugged" handheld runs Windows CE on 400 MHz PXA255. With its built-in barcode scanner and RFID reader, the device targets data collection applications in extreme environments such as commercial freezers. It offers a wide range of wireless communication and expansion card options.


Casio DT-X5 -- Sep. 13, 2004 -- This rugged industrial handheld terminal runs Windows CE version 4.1 on an SH-3 processor. It features a CMOS Imager that allows the device to read stacked 2-dimensional barcodes as well as traditional 1-dimensional codes. The DT-X5 can also capture images such as signatures.


Juniper Systems Allegro CX -- Sep. 7, 2004 -- The Allegro CX is the latest addition to the Allegro family of rugged, handheld "field PCs" from Juniper Systems. It runs Windows CE 4.2 on a 400 MHz Intel XScale processor and features a 62-button full alpha-numeric keypad, which is intended to be usable with gloved hands. The device is meant to be used in in natural resource and agriculture field data collection applications.


Sammi Smart-eCompact -- Sep. 3, 2004 -- This rugged handheld data terminal runs Windows CE 4.2 on a 400 MHz Intel PXA255 processor. It is equipped with an alphanumeric keypad, touch screen, and integrated 2D scanner and is aimed at manufacturing and warehousing operations, and for automating sales, field service, healthcare, hospitality, retail, and public safety personnel.


Psion Workabout Pro -- Aug. 4, 2004 -- The Workabout Por is based on a 400 MHz Intel PXA255 processor and is available in two models -- a monochrome display and a color display. Psion says the Workabout's expansion and customization capabilities enable it to meet the needs of the mobile computing, supply chain, and logistics and retail markets. The company offers a hardware development kit for use in designing third party expansion modules.


d-Media inView N-911 -- Aug. 3, 2004 -- This Pocket PC boasts built-in GPS capabilities and 3D navigation. It is based on an Intel PXA263 processor running Microsoft's Windows Pocket PC 2003SE Chinese Edition. The N-911 is said to offer accurate positioning in a range of difficult and hostile environments, helping users to plot routes and locate services quickly and easily. It is equipped with an array of GPS features, including detailed maps, points-of-information and directional information.


HP iPAQ hx4700, rx3000, rz1700 -- Jul. 26, 2004 -- The hx4700 boasts a 4-inch color VGA screen and a touchpad that provides a "mouse-like" cursor for easy navigation; the hx4700 and rx3000 offer Bluetooth and 802.11b wireless, while the rx3000 adds the option of a 1280x960 pixel camera with 4x zoom; the rz1700 lacks wireless, but includes USB and serial ports. All include MMC/SDIO and/or CompactFlash slots. The devices are powered by Intel and Samsung processors, running Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition for Pocket PC.


Thales MobileMapper CE -- Jul. 21, 2004 -- Thales says this handheld GPS receiver for geographic information system (GIS) and other data collection and mapping applications "sets a new standard for performance and affordability." Claimed to be priced substantially lower than competing systems, the device is based on an ARM920T processor and runs Windows CE.


VisuAide Maestro -- Jul. 1, 2004 -- VisuAide starts with an HP iPAQ Pocket PC running Windows CE and makes it accessible to the visually impaired with the addition of text-to-speech technology and a tactile keyboard membrane overlay on the PDA's touch screen. The device can be operated with or without an external keyboard (Braille or standard), depending on user preference and the task at hand.


Amrel Patriot DA4-M -- Jun. 28, 2004 -- Said to be the first fully rugged PDA in its size class to offer a 4-inch transflective touchscreen display with 480x640 resolution, the Patriot DA4-M PDA boasts a sunlight readable display and offers a choice of operating systems -- Windows CE .NET 4.2, supporting the full 480x640 screen resolution; or Pocket PC 2003, at 240x320 resolution. The DA4-M runs on a 400MHz Intel PXA255 processor.


Symbol MC9000 Series -- Jun. 10, 2004 -- The MC9000 family delivers application-specific mobility tools in three different models: the grip form factor MC9000-G for scan-intensive applications; the handheld MC9000-K for mobile applications outside the four walls; and the handheld MC9000-S for truly mobile field applications. All three are based on a 400 MHz Intel PXA255 XScale processor and run either Windows CE .NET or Windows Mobile 2003 for Pocket PC Phone Edition. All have an IP64 sealing rating and can survive multiple six foot drops to concrete.


Bitatech IT-6000 and IQ-3000 -- Jun. 7, 2004 -- These handhelds from Bitatech combine PDA functions with bar code scanning and wireless communications. Both run Windows CE on Intel embedded processors. The ruggedized IT-6000 (pictured here) is based on a 400 MHz Intel XScale processor, and boasts dust and water-splash ratings along with the ability to survive a 1.2 meter drop.


Diagnostic Instruments Di-400 -- May. 26, 2004 -- The Di-400 is claimed to be the world's first fully customizable rugged "Auto-ID platform" for reading both barcodes and RFID tags. The device, which is based on a 400MHz Intel PXA255 XScale processor running Windows CE .NET, is expected to find applications in the asset management, inspection, maintenance, and homeland security markets.


Itronix GoBook Q-200 -- May. 17, 2004 -- Claimed to be the "world's most rugged, advanced wireless handheld," the GoBook Q-200 runs Windows CE .NET on an Intel XScale processor and supports up to three wireless networks concurrently. The unit boasts a wide range of wired and wireless communication options and is aimed at mobile professionals who work in mission-critical environments such as field service and repair, inspection and service, public safety, telecommunications, utilities, insurance, and federal and military environments.


Via Eve -- May. 13, 2004 -- Described as the world's first handheld gaming device based on the x86 architecture, the Eve Mobile Gaming Console is said to be capable of instantly running thousands of existing PC games. It runs Windows XP Embedded on a Via Eden-N processor.


Navmaersonal Interactive Navigation (PiN) DeviceMay. 3, 2004 -- Combining a full GPS solution with all the features you'd expect in a Windows Mobile 2003-based Pocket PC, the Personal Interactive Navigation device (PiN) is powered by a 300 MHz Intel PXA255 processor. The 3.5 inch color TFT LCD provides 3D street-level views of your route, and plots your position with an accuracy of five meters 95 percent of the time.


Logic Instrument TetraPAD -- Apr. 29, 2004 -- Claimed to be the "first ruggedized PDA," the TetraPAD runs Windows CE on a 400 MHz Intel XScale processor. The device is enclosed in a magnesium case and meets Mil Specs for temperature, shock, and radiation, the company says.


Intrinsyc Carbonado -- Apr. 13, 2004 -- The Carbonado, also known as the Intel 2700G multimedia accelerator reference system, is a PDA-style development platform based on an Intel PXA270 XScale processor and a 2700G multimedia accelerator. The reference platform comes with "out of the box" support for Microsoft's Pocket PC 2003 and Windows CE .NET embedded operating systems, with support for other OSes is "on the roadmap."


Mitac Mio 168 -- Feb. 27, 2004 -- Mitac claims its Mio 168 is the first Pocket PC with a built-in GPS receiver. In addition to GPS, the device features a 3.5-inch TFT 240 x 320 pixel (QVGA) transflective LCD display, a 300MHz Intel PXA255 XScale processor, and an SD/MMC slot for memory expansion. Its embedded operating system is Microsoft's Windows Mobile 2003 Pocket PC.


HP iPAQ h4350 -- Dec. 8, 2003 -- the iPAQ h4350 is HP's first Pocket PC with an integrated keyboard. The device is based on a 400MHz Intel XScale processor running Windows Mobile 2003 Software for Pocket PC (Premium Edition), and includes a 3.5-inch 240 x 320 pixel color TFT LCD, SD Card expansion, and built-in WLAN 802.11b and Bluetooth wireless capabilities.


Logostek XPDA-9 -- Oct. 29, 2003 -- this Windows CE .NET based handheld computer is optimized for retail POS (point of sale) applications. It runs Windows CE 3.0 or 4.1 on an Intel SA110 processor and includes an integrated bar code scanner, magnetic strip 1 reader, printer, and optional CDMA/GSM wireless modem. Combining the functions of PDA, printer, bar code scanner, and credit card reader into an all-in-one device saves cost and also eliminates cumbersome use and configuration hassles.


Symbol PPT 8800 -- Oct. 27, 2003 -- this "enterprise PDA" runs the Windows Mobile 2003 software platform for Pocket PCs, and is based on a 400MHz Intel XScale processor. It has a full-color 240 x 320 LCD touch-panel display and includes an internal CompactFlash that can be used for wireless interfaces or other expansion options.


Dell Axim X3 -- Oct. 24, 2003 -- based on Intel XScale processors and running Microsoft Windows Mobile 2003 software for Pocket PC, the Axim X3/X3i is lighter and thinner than its predecessors and features a bright color display, removable primary batteries, SD I/O slot, consumer infrared, and optional built-in wireless networking.


Toshiba e400/e405 and e800/e805 -- Oct. 23, 2003 -- Both of these PDAs include hands-free voice functions consisting of audio playback of text documents and voice command inputs. Toshiba calls the e400/405 a "value priced" model, while the e800/805, sporting integrated Wi-Fi (802.11b) connectivity and voice over IP (VoIP) capabilities, is said to be a "corporate" model.


HHP Dolphin wireless data collection handhelds -- Sep. 30, 2003 -- the Dolphin 9500 and 9550 are durable and ergonomic handhelds based on a 400MHz Intel XScale PXA255 processor running Microsoft's Windows Mobile for Pocket PC Professional software platform. Both units boast "triple-radio" communications which includes tri-band GSM/GPRS, Wi-Fi (802.11b) wireless, and Bluetooth. The devices are offered with a choice of 240 x 320 color or monochrome displays equipped with an industrial-grade touchscreen, built-in digital camera/scanner, plus a rich set of input/output interfaces.


Intermec CK30 -- Sep. 22, 2003 -- The CK30 data collection terminal comes with a built-in 802.11b/g radio for 54 Mbps data transfers, integrated Bluetooth for wireless printing, and various imaging and color display options. The device is based on Microsoft's Windows CE .NET operating system running on a 400MHz Intel XScale PXA255 processor equipped with up to 64MB RAM and 64MB Flash memory.


Control Synergy "Mobile Information Gateway" -- Jul. 28, 2003 -- The "MIG" is a low power RISC-based handheld computing device running Windows CE .NET targeted at mobile enterprises and workplaces requiring real time information access. Toshiba e350/e355 -- Jul. 3, 2003 -- Toshiba's new low-end e350/e355 Series Pocket PCs, based on 300MHz Intel PXA255 processors, run Microsoft's newly released Windows Mobile 2003 operating system. According to Toshiba, the units feature a built-in microphone and digital voice recorder, SD/MMC card expansion, and can exchange information wirelessly (via an optional Bluetooth SD card) with other Bluetooth-enabled devices.

Mitac Mio 339 and 558 -- Jul. 1, 2003 -- The Mio 339 includes an integrated digital camera along with a host of multimedia features such as audio recording and MP3 player capabilities. The Mio 558 targets "corporate users" in the enterprise and boasts advanced wireless connectivity (including VoIP), multimedia functions, and dual expansion card-slots. JVC audio/video mobile PDAs -- Jun. 24, 2003 -- This pair of Pocket PC based multimedia-oriented handhelds runs Windows Mobile 2003 on a PXA255 processor. Dubbed "iO", the units feature audio/video capabilites such as MPEG4 video capture/playback, wireless video streaming over Wi-Fi, and compatibility with selected models of JVC camcorders.

The h5550's biometric fingerprint reader can be combined with a personal identification number, password or both. Both units are based on 400MHz Intel XScale PXA255 running Windows Mobile 2003 software for Pocket PC, and provide color TFT displays and removable batteries.


HP iPAQ h2210 -- Jun. 23, 2003 -- HP claims the iPAQ h2210 is the smallest Pocket PC on the market to include dual-slot expansion (CompactFlash Type II and Secure Digital). The device is based on a 400MHz Intel XScale PXA255 processor running Windows Mobile 2003 software for Pocket PC. Other key features include a color TFT display, built-in Bluetooth wireless, and a removable battery.


Talla-Tech R-PDA -- Jun. 10, 2003 -- is for the military and based on Intel's XScale processor running Microsoft's Pocket PC 2002 operating system. The R-PDA is offered in a baseline configuration with optional customized hardware and software features available, including a variety of communications options. Zupera Smartbook -- Jun. 6, 2003 -- The Smartbook-7c runs Microsoft's Windows CE .NET embedded operating system on an Intel StrongARM processor. It features an integrated keyboard (English), two pointing devices, stylus pen, touch screen, tablet software tools, and a built-in GPRS dual mobile phone module.


Symbol PDT 8146 -- May. 22, 2003 -- This rugged handheld "imaging computer" includes advanced imaging capabilities, voice-over Wi-Fi communications, and wireless LAN functions. The device is intended for data capture, data management, and communications applications in transportation and logistics, parcel and post, public safety, field sales and service, and in-store retail environments. It's powered by a 400MHz Intel PXS255 XScale processor running Microsoft's Pocket PC software platform.


Psion 7535 -- May. 21, 2003 -- The Psion Teklogix model 7535 is a Windows CE .NET based "rugged hand-held computer" intended for mobile data collection in harsh environments. The device is powered by an Intel XScale processor and is said to meet stringent dust and water protection, shock and vibration, and drop-test levels.


NEC MobilePro 900 -- May. 12, 2003 -- a clam-shell style handheld PC that is larger than most PDAs, but smaller than most sub-notebooks. Weighing under 2 lbs. the handheld has a 8.1 inch VGA display and runs on a 400MHz Intel XScale processor. It is powered by Windows CE 3.0 and Handheld PC 2000.


Alva MPO 5500 mobile phone/PDA -- Apr. 14, 2003 -- for the visually impaired. the MPO 5500 runs Windows CE .NET on an Intel PXA255. It combines a tri-band GSM radio, mobile Internet services, and note-taking functionality with braille display.


Toshiba e750 -- Mar. 11, 2003 -- This is a follow-on to the Pocket PC e740. The new PDA features the power-saving Intel PXA255 processor and a larger (3.8 in.) diagonal transflective color display. The device runs Windows for Pocket PC 2002.


LXE ruggedized MX5 Pocket PC -- Feb. 10, 2003 -- LXE's ruggedized Pocket PC, running Windows PocketPC 2000 on an Intel SA-1110 processor, is intended for heavy duty operation in extreme environments. The MX5 has a magnesium housing that can withstand multiple six-foot drop. It can handle water and an optional internal heater allows operation in temperatures as low as -22 deg. F. LXE says it's intended for industrial and logistics applications as well as operation in ports where rain, salt, humidity, and fluctuating temperatures make for severe conditions.


PSC Falcon 4420/4410 Portable Data Terminal -- Jan. 16, 2003 -- Aimed at retail and industrial applications, these ruggedized handhelds run Microsoft's Windows CE .NET embedded operating system and are based on 400 MHz Intel XScale processors.


Samsung NEXiO 160 -- Jan. 2, 2003 -- This PDA is based on an XScale PXA250 processor running Windows CE.NET 4.1. It features a 5 inch wide transflective color LCD that offers wide screen internet browsing. Optional accessories include a QWERTY style keyboard that doubles as a hard cover for the unit. Samsung has integrated the usual interfaces including WiFi Lan (802.11b),Compact Flash Type II Card Slot, and USB docking. A PCMCIA adapter is an optional accessory.

Dell Axim X5 -- Nov. 13, 2002 -- The X5 is powered by an Intel PXA250 XScale processor and is offered in 300MHz and 400MHz versions. The X5 runs Windows Pocket PC 2002 and supports MP3 files and video applications for mobile entertainment.


Packard Bell Pocket Gear -- Nov. 13, 2002 -- Packard Bell's Pocket Gear series of Pocket PC-based PDAs comes in two models -- the 2030 and the 2060. Both are based on Intel's StrongArm processor running Windows Pocket PC 2002. The two devices share similar specs. Display for the devices is a QVGA, 3.5-inch, 240 x 320 pixels reflective display with front light and 65,536 colors. A Secure digital (SD) Card provides wireless access and other expansion options.


Zayo A600 Pocket PC -- Oct. 24, 2002 -- Zayo Technologies A600 (also known as the Asus MyPal A600 from ASUSTeK Computer in Taiwan) is an ultra thin PDA based on the Intel 400 Mhz Intel PXA250 running Windows Pocket PC 2002. It supports MP3 files and video applications for mobile entertainment.


Tiqit 'eighty-three' -- Oct. 22, 2002 -- This handheld computer is a based on National Semiconductor's Geode SC2200 system-on-a-chip (SoC) running Windows XP. The device has a 4-inch high-resolution color TFT screen a "thumb keyboard", a 'touchstick mouse' with left/right mouse buttons, and a touchscreen with handwriting recognition. Input/output and expansion include PCMCIA and SD card slots, USB, and audio in/out.


VoxTec Phraselator -- Oct. 7, 2002 -- VoxTec's ruggedized translation PDA device is for mobile, outdoor use with a full sunlight or full darkness readable display. The Phraselator is a speaker-independent, large vocabulary phrase recognition PDA based on the Intel SA1110 processor running Windows CE. A phrase library includes terms like "Stop or I'll shoot" and other commands for military or law enforcement needs. The device provides around five times the audio level from its speaker output than most PDAs.


Intermec 6651 -- Oct. 7, 2002 -- The Intermec 6651 is a Handheld PC optimized for mobile enterprise applications, with the flexibility to use it as a notebook or as a pen tablet computer. The 6651 is based on Toshiba's 129MHz MIPS CPU, and offers an integrated CMOS camera, a bright, crisp, fold-over display, and VGA video output. It runs Windows for Handheld PC 2000.


Intermec 700 Color mobile computer -- Sep. 25, 2002 -- This handheld device is based on an Intel 400MHz XScale processor and bosts a large, full-color display along with a unique imager suitable for reading barcodes (including 2D symbologies), taking photographs, and capturing signatures. The 700 Color is also unique in its ability to integrate up to three integrated wireless communication options within a single device, including an 802.11b radio, a GSM/GPRS WAN radio, and a power-managed Bluetooth radio.


Bsquare Power Handheld -- Sep. 4, 2002 -- This reference design helps jumpstart time-to-market for OEMs. It features a VGA display that presents web pages similar to a laptop, has a retractable QWERTY thumb-type keyboard, GSM cell phone, and built-in radio technology to access high-speed, always-on GPRS wireless data networks -- in a very small form factor. The device runs Windows CE .NET on an Intel PXA250 processor


Toshiba e310 -- Jun. 29, 2002 -- This handheld computer is based on a 206MHz Intel StrongARM processor and runs Windows Pocket PC 2003. Acer n20 series Pocket PC -- Jun. 29, 2002 -- This series of PDAs is based on an Intel 400MHz PXA250 XScale running Windows Pocket PC 2002. The 3.8-in. 240 x 320 pixel TFT color touchscreen display is slightly larger than that of most PDAs. Expansion includes built-in IrDA, a Memory Stick slot, and an expansion connector, as well as an optional expansion sleeve with PCMCIA and CompactFlash sockets. Fujitsu Siemens Pocket LOOX -- Jun. 29, 2002 -- This device is powered by a 400MHz Intel PXA250 XScale processor running Windows Pocket PC 2002. The display is 240 x 320 pixel TFT color touchscreen with auto-dim. USB, iRDA, and Bluetooth interfaces are included, and an optional GSM/GPRS receiver provides full mobile functionality.


Asus My Pal A600 -- Jun. 29, 2002 -- This slim (just .5 in.) PDA runs Pocket PC 2002 an Intel 400MHz PXA250 XScale processor. It provides a 3.5-inch color TFT 240 x 320 pixel display, is packaged in an aluminum alloy case, and weighs just 4.9 oz. Connectivity options include 802.11b wireless LAN infrastructure. Additionally, the the iPAD supports both XML and Voice Over IP (VoIP).


Intrinsyc CerfPDA -- Jan. 2, 2002 -- This handheld reference design is a high-performance, low-power reference platform based on a 192MHz Intel StrongARM 1110 processor. Connectivity options include Ethernet, RS232 serial, IrDA, USB, PCMCIA, and Bluetooth.


National Semiconductor Origami -- Nov. 11, 2001 -- this proof-of-concept handheld design integrates popular Internet and multimedia functions into a single, portable unit. About the size and weight of a small digital camcorder, the National Geode Origami Mobile Communicator is a flexible unit that folds and unfolds to perform eight popular consumer electronics functions in one device. The device targets original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), and is developed under a joint agreement between National Semiconductor's Conceptual Products Group, Studio RED, and CoCom International. It runs Windows XP Embedded.
