In this section, we cover Windows-powered tablets, webpads, UMPCs (ultra mobile PCs), and MIDs (mobile internet devices). There's overlap between these categories of device, and others, but the devices featured here run Windows Embedded software platforms, or full "desktop" versions of Microsoft operating systems, and are designed for portability. They run on batteries, and their primary means of input is usually a touchscreen display.

American Industrial Systems SRT101AZ -- Feb. 1, 2010 -- American Industrial Systems (AIS) offers a 10.4-inch tablet PC employing Intel Atom CPUs and a sunlight-readable transflective touchscreen display. The SRT101AZ resists three-foot drops, operates up to six hours on a battery charge, uses hard disk or CompactFlash storage, and runs Windows XP Embedded, the company says.

Xplore Technologies iX104CM -- Jan. 21, 2010 -- Xplore Technolgies offers a Windows tablet computer specifically designed for military applications. The iX104C4M includes a 10.4-inch touchscreen and a 1.2GHz Core Duo U2500 processor, complies with a bevy of MIL-STD tests -- including four-foot drops -- and operates from -4 to 140 deg. F, the company says.

Netbook Navigator 701A-NN and 891-NN -- Jan. 20, 2010 -- A company called Netbook Navigator offers two Windows 7-powered tablet PCs, both using Intel Atom processors. The devices include the seven-inch 701A-NN and the 8.9-inch 891A-NN, both with multi-touch capabilities and optional 3G modems, according to the company.

Maplin A10JQ -- Jan. 19, 2010 -- U.K. supplier Maplin Electronics offers a Windows CE-based MID (mobile internet device) that costs just 70 Pounds (approximately $114). The device, known by its order code A10JQ, has a five-inch touchscreen with 480 x 272 resolution, 2GB of flash storage, 802.11b/g wireless, and a 480MHz processor, the company says.

Yukyung Technologies Viliv N5 -- Jan. 11, 2010 -- Yukyung's N5 is a MID-type device that comes with a netbook-like clamshell form factor. It includes a 1.33MHz Intel Atom Z520 processor, Windows 7 Home Premium, a 32GB solid state disk, and a GPS receiver, the company says.

SmartDevices V5 -- Jan. 4, 2010 -- Chinese portable media player (PMP) vendor SmartDevices offers an ARM11-based MID (mobile internet device) that comes with either Windows CE 6.0, Android, or Ubuntu Linux. The V5 features a 4.3-inch display with 800 x 480 resolution, 1080p video playback, WiFi, Bluetooth, and a mini-HDMI port, according to the company.

Samwell Ruggedbook SR820 -- Dec. 16, 2009 -- Samwell offers a rugged tablet computer based on Intel's Atom Z530P processor. The Ruggedbook SR820 includes an 8.9-inch touchscreen display, a 60GB hard disk drive or 16GB SSD (solid state disk), offers optional GPS and 3G connectivity, and survives four-foot drops, the company says.

Stantum Slate PC -- Dec. 11, 2009 -- The French company Stantum offers a multi-touch tablet PC based on Dell's Inspiron Mini 10 netbook. The "Slate PC" includes a 10.1-inch resistive touchscreen display, 1GB of RAM, a 160GB hard disk drive, WiFi, Bluetooth, and an HDMI video output, according to the company.

Onkyo BX -- Dec. 11, 2009 -- Onkyo offers a MID (mobile internet device) that runs Windows XP on a dual-speed Intel Atom Z515 processor. The BX includes a QWERTY keyboard, a 4.8-inch touchscreen, 512MB of RAM, and a 32GB SSD (solid state disk), the company says.

DLI 8800 -- Dec. 7, 2009 -- Data Ltd Incorporated (DLI) offers a tablet PC designed to allow retailers to accept payments anywhere in a store. The DLI 8800 includes a 7-inch touchscreen display and MSR (magstripe reader), survives four-foot drops, and is available with a barcode scanner and RFID reader.

PsiXpda -- Dec. 4, 2009 -- U.K firm PsiXpda offers a UMPC (ultra-mobile PC) with a five-inch touchscreen display, an Intel Atom Z510 processor, and a 16GB SSD (solid state disk). The "PsiXpda" includes WiFi, Bluetooth, and optional 3G, and weighs under a pound.

Fujitsu LifeBook UH900 -- Dec. 3, 2009 -- Fujitsu offers a portable device it's touting as the world's smallest multi-touch PC. The LifeBook UH900 features a 5.6-inch screen, measures 8 x 4.2 x 0.9 inches, weighs approximately one pound, and runs Windows 7 via a 1.6Ghz Intel Atom Z530 processor, the company says.

Wirelession W1060 -- Dec. 2, 2009 -- Wirelession Electronics offers a MID (mobile internet device) that runs Windows CE 6.0 on an ARM Cortex-A8 processor. The W1060 has a 600MHz CPU, a seven-inch touchscreen display, WiFi, Bluetooth, and an optional GPS receiver, according to the company.

Acer Aspire 1420p -- Nov. 20, 2009 -- Acer offers a convertible tablet PC that runs Windows 7 on a dual-core Celeron processor. The Aspire 1420p includes both a pivoting, 11.6-inch display with multitouch and an HDMI output, says Acer.

Samwell MCA9 -- Nov. 5, 2009 -- Samwell offers a tablet PC specifically designed for medical applications. With a sealed magnesium-alloy case, the MCA9 includes a 1.6GHz Atom processor, a two megapixel camera, a RFID reader and optional barcode scanner, and an 8.9-inch touchscreen.

Soyea Z5 -- Nov. 2, 2009 -- Chinese manufacturer Soyea offers a mobile Internet device (MID) that runs Windows XP on Intel's dual-speed, MID-oriented Z515 Atom CPU. Soyea's Z5 is equipped with 1GB RAM, an 8GB SSD, a five-inch touchscreen, plus 3G, WiFi, Bluetooth, and a three-megapixel webcam.

eviGroup Pad -- Oct. 30, 2009 -- The French company eviGroup offers a touchscreen device that runs Windows 7, supplementing it with artificial intelligence software known as Seline10. The "Pad" includes a 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 processor, 10.6-inch screen, WiFi, 3G cellular, and a 160GB hard disk drive.

Dell Latitude XT2 XFR -- Oct. 29, 2009 -- Dell offers a ruggedized tablet PC claimed to be the industry's first such device with a multi-touch screen. The Latitude XT2 XFR includes a 1.6GHz Core 2 Duo SU9600 processor, a 160GB hard disk drive or SSD (solid state disk) storage, plus options including a fingerprint reader, a Smart Card reader, a camera, and a GPS receiver.

MobileDemand xTablet T7000 -- Oct. 28, 2009 -- MobileDemand offers a ruggedized UMPC (ultra-mobile PC) touted as offering the essential features of a tablet, in a smaller, lighter package. The xTablet T7000 meets IP54 and MIL-STD 810F standards, has a seven-inch touchscreen and integral numeric keypad, and includes a barcode scanner and RFID reader.

Kohjinsha PA -- Oct. 26, 2009 -- Is it a netbook, a tablet PC, a MID (mobile internet device) or a UMPC (ultra-mobile PC)? Kohjinsha offers the PA, a description-defying portable computer that includes a 1.3GHz Atom processor, 32GB solid state disk (SSD), and a TV tuner.
Aaeon RTC-1000 -- Oct. 26, 2009 -- Aaeon offers a 10.2-inch tablet computer specifically designed to run Windows Embedded Standard 2009. The RTC-1000 includes a touchscreen display, fingerprint scanner, handwriting recognition, and ten programmable function keys.

iWave iW-Rainbow-G6 -- Oct. 23, 2009 -- iWave Systems of Bangalore offers an Intel Atom-based reference design for UMPCs (ultra mobile PCs). The iW-Rainbow-G6 runs Windows Embedded Standard or XP Embedded, includes a 7-inch touchscreen display, and is available with optional cellular and GPS modules.

Fujitsu Lifebook T4310 and T4410 -- Oct. 21, 2009 --Fujitsu offers a pair of Windows 7-ready convertible PCs that offer both electromagnetic and capacitive digitizers. Featuring 12-inch displays that rotate into tablet position, the Lifebook T4310 and T4410 features a variety of Intel processors, up to 4GB of RAM and 320GB of hard disk storage, and offer modular drive bays.

Plastic Logic Que -- Oct. 19, 2009 -- Plastic Logic has shown off a Windows CE-based e-reader targeted at professional users. The 8.5 x 11-inch "Que" will feature both WiFi and cellular connectivity and download content from Barnes & Noble's online store.

KraftCom RugBoard 10A -- Oct. 15, 2009 -- The German company offers a rugged, 10.4-inch tablet PC specifically designed to run Windows XP Embedded. The "RugBoard 10A" includes an Intel Atom CPU, touchscreen display, from 4GB to 16GB of CompactFlash-based storage, plus optional GPS and cellular modules, the company says.

Fujitsu Patio 700 -- Sept. 25, 2009 -- Fujitsu offers a mobile order-taking terminal that runs Windows Embedded POS Ready 2009. The "Patio 700" includes an Intel Atom Z530P CPU, an 8GB SSD (solid state disk), 802.11a/b/g wireless networking, a "security key" option, and a 10.4-inch touchscreen display, the company says.

TabletKiosk Eo a7330D, TuffTab a7230XD, Sahara NetSlate a230t -- Sept. 23, 2009 -- TabletKiosk offers three portable computers with Intel Atom processors, two of them seven-inch UMPCs (ultra mobile PCs) with built-in Wacom digitizers. The UMPCs are the Eo a7330D and the ruggedized TufTab a7230XD, joined by the 12.1-inch Sahara NetSlate a230T tablet.

NorhTec Gecko Info Pad -- Sept. 22, 2009 -- NorhTec offers a tablet computer that will cost just $300, run Windows on a 1GHz SoC (system on chip), and operate via eight AA batteries. The "Gecko Info Pad" will include an 8.9-inch touchscreen display, 8GB of solid state storage, and needs no external power brick.

DAP Technologies Kinysis 8900KS and 8900VS -- Sept. 17, 2009 -- DAP Technologies offers two rugged tablet computers that run Windows Embedded Standard. The Kinysis 8900KS and 8900VS feature AMD Geode LX800 processors, touchscreen displays, plus available GPRS/EDGE/UMTS connectivity, GPS, and barcode scanning capabilities.

Toshiba JournE Touch -- Sept. 3, 2009 -- Toshiba offers a touchscreen tablet based on Windows CE 6.0. Sporting a 7-inch display, the JournE Touch tablet offers 1GB of flash storage, WiFi, SD expansion, and an ARM processor.

American Industrial Systems RT10IA8M-U1/LC -- Sept. 1, 2009 -- American Industrial Systems (AIS) offers a rugged tablet PC that runs Windows XP Embedded or Windows CE. The RT10IA8M-U1/LC includes a 10.4-inch touchscreen display, optional PCI Express slot, available wide area connectivity, and either hard disk or SSD (solid state disk) storage.

Tainell T500 -- Aug. 18, 2009 -- Chinese firm Tainell offers a MID (mobile internet device) that runs Windows XP on a 1.1GHz Intel Atom Z510 processor. The T500 includes a 5.0-inch touchscreen display with 1024 x 600 pixel resolution, 1GB of RAM, an HDMI port, and a 32GB SSD (solid state disk).

Technology Advancement Group TC-100 -- Aug. 14, 2009 -- Technology Advancement Group (TAG) offers a ruggedized UMPC (ultra-mobile PC) aimed at emergency services, military, and industrial applications. The TC-100 Commander includes a seven-inch display that comes in sunlight- or night vision-readable versions.
Eston MID-02 -- Sep. 12, 2009 -- Hong Kong-based Eston Technology Limited offers a MID (mobile internet device) that's said to run either Windows CE 6.0 or the Linux-based Android operating system. The MID-02 reportedly includes a 624MHz Marvell PXA300 CPU, a 4.3-inch touchscreen display, and a slide-out QWERTY keyboard.

Benq S6 -- Aug. 3, 2009 -- Benq offers a MID (mobile internet device) that runs Windows XP on an 800MHz Intel Atom Z500 processor. The S6 includes a 4.8-inch touchscreen display with 800 x 480 pixel resolution, 512MB of RAM, an 8GB SSD (solid state disk), and HSDPA (High-Speed Downlink Packet Access) networking.

Enmac E-Alim EL1000 -- Jul. 27, 2009 -- Enmac Engineering Limited offers an Islamic e-reader and PMP (personal media player). The "E-Alim EL1000" runs Windows CE 5.0, has a seven-inch touchscreen display, includes stereo speakers, is designed to display or recite the Qur'an, and has a microSD expansion slot, according to the company.

Advantech PWS-8101M -- Jul. 23, 2009 -- Advantech's rugged tablet PC features a 10.4-inch touchscreen display. The "PWS-8101M" runs Windows XP Embedded, survives three-foot drops, and uses a 1.6GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor.

Samsung SWD-M100 Mondi -- Jul. 21, 2009 -- Samsung's (mobile internet device) runs Windows Mobile 6.1 and includes built-in WiMAX networking. The SWD-M100 "Mondi" has a 4.3-inch touchscreen, slide-out QWERTY keyboard, GPS, three megapixel camera, an HDMI port, and 4GB of storage.


Asus T91 -- Jul. 15, 2009 -- Asus' T91 combines typical netbook underpinnings with a convertible touchscreen display that pivots into tablet form. The device uses a 1.33GHz Intel Atom Z530 processor, has a 16GB solid-state disk, and uses Windows XP with some custom extensions devised by Asus.


SmartDevices SmartQ5 -- Jul. 10, 2009 -- Chinese portable media player (PMP) vendor SmartDevices offers a MID (mobile internet device) based on Windows CE 6.0. The "SmartQ5" has a 4.3-inch touchscreen display with 800 x 480 resolution, 1GB of flash storage, WiFi, Bluetooth, and supports external USB devices.


Glacier Ridgeline T100 -- Jun. 17, 2009 -- Glacier Computer's 8.4-inch tablet computer targets data collection "in challenging environments." The Ridgeline T100 runs Windows CE, offers 800 x 600 display resolution, has 128MB of RAM and 64MB of flash storage, and withstands four-foot drops to concrete.


Archos 9 -- Jun. 12, 2009 -- Archos' tablet PC includes a 8.9-inch touchscreen display and uses Intel's Atom Z515 CPU. The "Archos 9" sports an 80GB or 120GB hard disk drive, WiFi, Bluetooth, optional HSUPA (high speed uplink packet access cellular), and optional TV tuner.


JoinTech HE100 -- Jun. 8, 2009 -- JoinTech's Windows CE-based e-reader has a seven-inch touchscreen LCD display. The "JE100" has a 400MHz CPU, 64MB of RAM, 128MB of flash storage, and a microSD slot.


DigiCube MIDPhone-50 -- Jun. 4, 2009 -- Taiwan-based DigiCube's MID (mobile internet device) doubles as a 3.5G cellphone. The "MIDPhone-50" uses an Intel Atom Z5xx CPU, has a five-inch touchscreen display, includes a 16GB SSD (solid state drive), and runs Windows XP Embedded.


Handheld Algiz 8 -- May 29, 2009 -- Handheld US offers an 8.4-inch tablet PC that runs Windows XP Professional on a 1.1GHz Intel Atom Z510 processor. The "Algiz 8" resists shock, dust, and water, has a hot-swappable battery, offers an 1100-nit sunlight-readable display, and operates down to -4 deg. F.


Tangent Medix 10T -- May 28, 2009 -- Tangent offers a medical tablet PC that runs Windows via a 1.06GHz Core 2 Solo processor. The sealed "Medix 10T" has a 10.4-inch touchscreen, a 60GB hard disk drive, 802.11a/b/g/n wireless, a two megapixel camera, a fingerprint reader, plus optional RFID and barcode scanning.


Data Ltd DLI 8400 -- May 26, 2009 -- Data Ltd offers a ruggedized UMPC (ultra-mobile PC) claimed to survive multiple four-foot drops onto concrete. The feature-packed "DLI 8400" uses a 1.6GHz Atom processor, has hard disk or SSD (solid state disk) storage, and operates for nine hours via two hot-swappable batteries.


UMID Mbook -- Apr. 30, 2009 -- UMID's MID-like ultra-mobile PC (UMPC) for the Korean market runs Windows XP. The UMID Mbook is equipped with an Intel Atom processor, a 4.8-inch, 1024 x 600 touchscreen, WiFi, Bluetooth, 1.3-megapixel camera, and a HSDPA 3G cellular modem,


Fujitsu FMVLUC50N -- Apr. 28, 2009 -- Fujitsu adopted Intel's 2.0GHz Atom for an upgrade of its convertible UMPC (ultra-mobile PC). The company's FMVLUC50N includes a pivoting 5.6-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth 2.0, hard drive or SSD (solid state disk) storage, and an integral fingerprint sensor.


Arbor M1256 -- Apr. 27, 2009 -- Arbor added cellular connectivity and GPS to its medical tablet PC. The M1256 has a 12.1-inch touchscreen, a 1.6GHz Atom N270 processor, a 60GB or 80GB hard disk drive, 802.11a/b/g/n wireless, a two megapixel camera, an RFID reader, and Bluetooth.


Yukyung Viliv S5 -- Apr. 17, 2009 -- Yukyung offers a MID (mobile internet device) claimed to wake from sleep mode in just four seconds -- and offer 200 hours of standby. The Viliv S5 runs Windows XP, offers a "Cube" interface with haptic feedback, and has an optional GPS receiver.


Samwell Ruggedbook SR659 -- Apr. 14, 2009 -- Samwell has adopted Via's Nano processor for a new UMPC (ultra-mobile PC) that runs Windows XP Embedded. The Ruggedbook SR659 includes a seven-inch touchscreen display, a fingerprint sensor, a 30GB hard disk drive, and both SD and PCMCIA expansion slots.


Twinhead DigiHeal -- Apr. 3, 2009 -- Twinhead International's Windows tablet PC targets medical applications. The DigiHeal has a 10.4-inch touchscreen, Core2 Solo U2100 processor, a 60GB or 80GB hard disk drive, 802.11a/b/g/n wireless, a two megapixel camera, an RFID reader, Bluetooth, and optional cellular connectivity.


Samsung SWD-100 Mondi -- Apr. 1, 2009 -- Samsung's MID (mobile internet device) runs Windows Mobile 6.1 and includes built-in WiMAX networking. The SWD-M100 "Mondi" has a 4.3-inch touchscreen display, slide-out QWERTY keyboard, GPS, three megapixel camera, an HDMI port, and 4GB of storage.


Advantech MICA-101 -- Mar. 17, 2009 -- Advantech's Windows tablet PC is based on Intel's MCA (mobile clinical assistant) platform. "Designed to enhance the quality of patient care," the "MICA-101" has a sealed, easily sanitized case, a 10.4-inch touchscreen display, an Intel Z5xx processor, a two megapixel camera, and an RFID reader.


Motion Computing J3400 -- Mar. 17, 2009 -- Motion Computing's rugged Windows tablet PC targets healthcare, construction, field sales, and government. The "J3400" has a 12.1-inch touchscreen, an Intel Core 2 Duo processor, HDD (hard disk drive) or SDD (solid state drive) storage, a fingerprint reader, and optional mobile broadband.


Arbor M1255 -- Mar. 12, 2009 -- Arbor's Windows tablet PC targets medical applications, with a sealed, easily sanitized case. The "M1255" has a 12.1-inch touchscreen display, Intel Atom N270 processor, 60GB hard disk drive, 802.11b/g/n wireless, two megapixel camera, barcode scanner, fingerprint reader, and an RFID reader.


TabletKiosk MediSlate MCA i1040XT -- Mar. 9, 2009 -- TabletKiosk's Windows tablet PC uses Intel's MCA (mobile clinical assistant) platform, intended for medical applications. The MediSlate MCA i1040XT has a 10.4-inch touchscreen display, Core2 Solo U2100 processor, 2GB of RAM, 80GB hard disk drive, 802.11a/b/g/n wireless networking, a two megapixel camera, an RFID reader, and optional cellular connectivity.


Samsung Q1EX-71G -- Mar. 5, 2009 -- Samsung's UMPC (ultra-mobile PC) runs Windows XP Tablet Edition using a 1.2GHz Via Nano processor. The "Q1EX-71G" has a seven-inch touchscreen, 2GB of RAM, a 60GB hard disk drive, and up to 8.5 hours of battery life.


Trimble Yuma -- Feb. 23, 2009 -- Trimble's rugged tablet computer targets public safety, forestry, utilities, and other outdoor applications. Running Windows Vista, the "Yuma" has a 1.6Ghz Intel Atom CPU, 32GB SSD (solid state drive), seven-inch touchscreen display, GPS, Bluetooth, WiFi, and dual cameras.


Fujistu Flepia -- Feb. 10, 2009 -- Fujitsu's electronic book reader that works in color, but offers a power-effecient "e-paper" display. Planned in models with eight- and 12-inch displays, the "Flepia" displays up to 4,096 colors, and runs Windows CE 5.0.


RMT Duros 8404 -- Feb. 2, 2009 -- Roper Mobile Technology (RMT) offers a 8.4-inch tablet PC with 500MHz AMD Geode LX 800 or 1.0GHz Intel Celeron M processors. The Duros 8404 resists shock, dust, and water, has a hot-swappable battery, and comes with solid-state storage or a hard disk drive (HDD).


Yukyung Viliv X70 -- Jan. 20, 2009 -- Yukyung's large mobile Internet device (MID) is equipped with a 1.33GHz Intel Atom Silverthorne Z520, and it runs Windows XP. The Viliv X70 Communications MID is equipped with a 7-inch, 1024x600 touchscreen, GPS, Bluetooth, WiFi, WiMAX, HDSPA, and even a hard drive.


Sony Vaio P -- Jan. 9, 2009 -- Sony's mini-laptop weighs 1.4 pounds and is just 4.7 inches deep. The "Vaio P" (VGN-P) includes a 1.33GHz Atom processor, eight-inch, 1600 x 768 screen, 2GB of RAM, hard disk and SSD (solid state drive) storage options, GPS, and a cellular modem.


OQO 2+ -- Jan. 8, 2009 -- OQO's pioneering UMPC (ultra mobile PC), is now based Intel Atom processor, and half the cost of the original model. It boasts an OLED (organic light-emitting diode) display and available 3G wireless.


Trigem Lluon Mobbit -- Dec. 4, 2008 -- Trigem's Windows XP MID (mobile internet device), the "Lluon Mobbit," offers a 4.8-inch screen, Intel Atom CPU, WiMAX, 1GB of RAM, a 30GB hard disk drive or 16GB solid state drive, and a television receiver.


Panasonic Toughbook H1 -- Nov. 6, 2008 -- Panasonic's Windows tablet PC targets medical applications. The Toughbook H1 has a 10.4-inch touchscreen display, 1.86GHz Atom Z540 processor, 1GB of RAM, 80GB hard disk drive, 802.11a/b/g/n wireless networking, a two megapixel camera, and optional "Gobi" cellular connectivity.


Fujitsu Lifebook 820 -- Nov. 4, 2008 -- Fujitsu's convertible UMPC (ultra mobile PC) uses Intel's 1.6GHz Atom Z530 processor. The LifeBook U820 includes a pivoting 5.6-inch touchscreen, GPS, Bluetooth 2.0, hard drive or SSD (solid state disk) storage, an integral fingerprint sensor, and Windows Vista.


Miutech HDPC -- Oct. 22, 2008 -- Miutech's portable seeks to squeeze an Atom-powered PC and a mobile phone into a single package. The HDPC (hybrid dual portable computer) runs Windows XP on an Intel Atom CPU and Windows CE on an unspecified ARM processor, sporting dual displays.



Asus R50A -- Oct. 9, 2008 -- This MID (mobile internet device) uses Intel's Atom Z520 processor and runs Windows Vista. The Asus R50A includes a "sunlight readable" 5.6-inch touchscreen display, from 8GB to 32GB of SSD (solid state disk) storage, dual cameras, GPS, and optional TV tuner.


Aigo P8860D (Gigabyte M528) -- Sep. 30, 2008 -- Aigo's MID (mobile Internet device) is based on the Intel Atom. The Aigo P8860D features an Atom Z500 clocked at 800MHz, slide-out QWERTY keyboard, 512MB RAM, a 4GB SSD (solid state disk), and dual cameras.

Emano Tec MedTab -- Mar. 6, 2007 -- This "bedside documentation tool" incorporates a customized version of Windows CE and is specifically designed to allow clinicians to remotely access detailed medical records and features several levels of security. The 8.1-inch grey-scale screen lets doctors view detailed medical charts with greater ease than on normal-sized PDAs and yet is "small and light enough to carry in a lab coat pocket."


Sharp EM-ONE -- Feb. 22, 2007 -- This Windows Mobile 5-powered mini-tablet, initially available in Japan only, features HSDPA, WiFi, and Bluetooth connectivity, a wide 800x400 screen, and an unusual "dual sliding" QWERTY keyboard. It runs a 520 MHz Marvell PXA270 processor with 128 MB SDRAM and 512 MB flash. Beijing Peace H10 -- Feb. 8, 2007 -- This "UMPC-like" device runs Windows CE 5.0 on a Marvell PXA270 processor with 128 MB of SDRAM and 64 MB of NOR flash. It sports a 7-inch LCD display, built-in GPS receiver, and 20 GB hard disk. Other wireless interfaces are supported through built-in PCMCIA and SD card slots. This is a "ready-to-manufacture design" available globally to resellers, OEMs, and ODMs.


OQO Model 02 -- Feb. 5, 2007 -- OQO calls this "the world's smallest fully-functional PC," measuring 5.6 x 3.3 x 1.0 inches. The 02 runs Windows XP Tablet PC edition on a 1.5 GHz processor with up to 1 GB of RAM and a 60 GB shock-mounted hard drive. The device boasts a backlit, 58-key "thumb" keyboard with vertical and horizontal capacitive "touchscrollers," along with an active digitizer on the 5-inch wide-VGA LCD.


Samsung Q1P SSD UMPC -- Jan. 10, 2007 -- Samsung claims this is the first UMPC to replace the 1.8-inch rotating-media drive with a 32 GB NAND flash memory storage device. Overall system performance is said to be greatly enhanced, with read rates three times as fast (53 MB/sec) and writes 150 percent as fast (28 MB/sec) as rotating-media drives. Battery life is also improved, because flash-based storage requires less power than conventional rotational drives.

Everex tablet computer -- Apr. 11, 2005 -- This compact, lightweight device runs Windows CE 4.2 on an Intel XScale processor and is targeted primarily at health care applications, according to its Italian maker. The tablet's embedded motherboard is also available as an OEM product, with Windows CE pre-installed.


Motion Computing M1400 Tablet PC and thin client -- Jan. 26, 2005 -- The M1400 is available in two versions: the standard version runs Windows XP Tablet PC Edition while the M1400TC runs XP Embedded and functions as a thin client. Both offer the choice of a 900 MHz Celeron M, or a 1.1 GHz Pentium M, processor. The unit includes a 12.1-inch wide-viewing-angle XGA TFT LCD, and is "packed" with interfaces and expansion ports.


Bookeen Cybook -- Dec. 15, 2004 -- Bookeen describes the Cybook as the "first multi-format open e-book reading device that provides an "optimally immersive e-reading experience." It boasts up to nine hours of battery operation, a wide viewing angle, sharper graphics imaging and improved sound capabilities relative to previous models, It also includes a built-in biometric fingerprint "swipe sensor".


Crestron TPMC-10 -- Sep. 15, 2004 -- The TPMC-10 combines home control, streaming multimedia, and PC computing functions in a compact, ergonomic, wireless mobile touchpad running Microsoft's Windows CE operating system. Creston, a specialist in audio/visual control and automation systems, developed the TPMC-10 in collaboration with ViewSonic.


PSC Falcon 4620 -- May. 18, 2004 -- The Falcon 4620 is a ruggedized vehicle-mount computer intended for use in harsh industrial and field environments, including temperatures as low as -30 degrees C. The device runs Microsoft's Windows XP Embedded operating system on a Via C3 processor, and targets applications in retail, warehousing, and supply chain management.

It is intended for use in law enforcement, transportation, construction, utilities, and other fields requiring a rugged mobile computing solution, and complies with military and industrial ruggedization standards. It features a sealed metallic magnesium casing, protective port covers, and internally sealed ports.


NEC VersaPro and LaVie Tablet PCs -- Jan. 27, 2003 -- These tablet PCs target the business and home user, respectively. NEC's tablet is available in Japan with support for wired and wireless LAN connections, and a 10.4-inch display. The operating system is Windows XP Tablet PC edition, which includes Microsoft's digital-ink software used for handwriting recognition, and the processor is a mobile Pentium III.


Neoware Voyager -- Jan. 21, 2003 -- This Windows CE based tablet communicates over both wired and wireless networks. It has a 12-in. touchscreen which provides up to 1024x768 resolution and up to 16-bit color depth. It includes an embedded Microsoft Internet Explorer browser. The Voyager is a thin client and wireless tablet. It works with Neoware's exRemote Manager enterprise-class administration software.


FIC SlateVision Tablet PC -- Nov. 29, 2002 -- This Windows XP based Tablet PC is powered by a Transmeta Crusoe processor. The device provides wireless connectivity via 802.11 and fast IrDA, and weighs just over 3 pounds.


Walkabout Hammerhead-HRT -- Nov. 25, 2002 -- This ruggedized Tablet PC, running Windows XP Tablet Edition on a mobile Pentium III processor, is intended to operate in extreme conditionsit is said to be capable of running submersed in six inches of water for up to five minutes with no damage. Available options include a Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) unit.


HP Compaq Tablet PC TC1000 -- Nov. 17, 2002 -- This versatile tablet PC from HP is roughly the size of a standard sheet of paper, is less than one inch thick, and weighs just three pounds. The device features a detachable keyboard/mouse and runs Windows XP Tablet PC Edition on a 1GHz Transmeta Crusoe processor. It's also equipped with an integrated modem and wireless 802.11.


Motion Computing M1200 Tablet PC -- Nov. 12, 2002 -- The Motion M1200 Tablet PC distinquishes itself with a 12.1 in. XGA LCD displaylarger than the 10.4-in. displays used in most first-generation tablets. It runs Windows XP Tablet edition on a Pentium III, weighs about 3 pounds, and comes with integrated WAN, LAN, and Wi-Fi connectivity. Hard drives up to 60 GB and expandable RAM, to a maximum of 1GB, are available as options.


Fujitsu Stylistic ST4000 Tablet PC -- Nov. 8, 2002 -- The Stylistic ST4000 Tablet PC is available in two versionsa handwriting-recogition-capable version runs Windows XP Tablet PC edition on a Pentium III. The other option is standard Windows 2000 or XP professional mobile. Both can be operated either as a desktop computer with keyboard or as a notebook.


Tatung "Tangy" Tablet PC -- Oct. 28, 2002 -- The Tangy series (models 440 and 830) are "full-featured" devices that run Microsoft Windows XP Tablet PC Edition on an ultra low voltage mobile Intel Pentium III Processor. The device measures 10.8 x 8.8 x 0.8 in. and weighs 2.6 lbs. The Tangy supports wireless connectivity standards including 802.11b. and optional Bluetooth.


Psion Teklogix netpad -- Sep. 24, 2002 -- This Windows CE-based tablet device targets mobile workers' communications needs. The "netpad" offers two new wireless connectivity options for LAN and WAN networks along with integrated support for 802.11b or GSM/GPRS radios. The ruggedized unit offers optional peripherals such as a barcode scanner.


DAP Technologies Microflex CE8640 -- Sep. 16, 2002 -- This tablet computer runs Windows CE .NET on an Intel SrongARM processor and is ruggedized for industrial use. The device features dual PC Card expansion slots, Ethernet connectivity, integrated laser bar code scanner, and an RFID tag reader.


Xybernaut Atigo -- Sep. 9, 2002 -- The Atigo is a Windows CE .NET-based mobile tablet computer based on a StrongARM processor and featuring a compact, all-light-readable display. Wireless communication is provided via integrated CompactFlash (CF-IO) and PC card slots. The device also includes multiple USB portsone built-in master and one slave in its docking cradle. Atigo web pads can be easily customized.


Fujitsu PenCentra 200 -- Jun. 29, 2002 -- this pen tablet runs Windows CE on Toshiba's MIPS CPU. It supports an 8 in. VGA Color Transmissive DSTN or Reflective SSTN pressure sensitive touchscreen. Expansion is via two Type-II PCMCIA card slots. The PenCentra is "Radio-Ready" for LAN/WAN PC Card radios and an integrated modem provides dial-up connectivity.


Electrovaya Scribbler -- Jun. 29, 2002 -- The Scribbler Tablet PCs boast an "all-day mobile experience" based on a propietary battery technology that is said to deliver 9-14 hour computing. The devices, which are based on Windows XP Tablet PC Edition software, come in several models with Pentium or Celeron processors at varying speeds. The "Premium" model includes a fingerprint security function.


Viewsonic ViewPad 1000 -- Jun. 29, 2002 -- This web tablet is based on the mobile Intel Celeron processor and runs Windows XP Professional. It boasts an onboard digital CCD camera to capture still photos and streaming video at 15fps. Connectivity options include integrated 802.11b Mini-PCI WiFi LAN, RJ-11 modem port, and RJ-45 Fast Ethernet.


ViewSonic Tablet PC V1100 -- Jun. 29, 2002 -- This device, running Windows XP Tablet PC Edition on a mobile Pentium III processor, has a 20 GB hard drive and weighs about 3.5 pounds. Its dimensions are 9.9 x 11.3 x 1.1 in., and its connectivity options include built-in 802.11b Wi-Fi WLAN, 56Kbps V.90 modem, and Fast Ethernet.


FIC AquaPAD -- Jun. 29, 2002 -- FIC's AquaPAD supports either Windows CE or CE .NET and is powered by a Transmeta processor. Wireless connectivity includes support for Bluetooth, 802.11b, 802.11a, and 802.11g. WWAN supports PHS, GPRS and CDMA Module, and a GPS module. Interfaces include USB, a PCMCIA Type II slot, and a CompactFlash slot.


Siemens SIMpad SL4 -- Jan. 4, 2002 -- The SIMpad SL4 is a full-function web pad with a 8.4 in. TFT touchscreen, boasting "photo quality" display. It measures 7.1 x 10.3 x 1.1 in. and weighs 2.2 lbs, and supports a range of wireless connectivity standards including 802.11b, HomeRF, GSM 900/1800, GPRS, HSCSD, and Bluetooth, with bandwidth up to 11 MBits, depending on communication type.


Casio Cassiopeia PA-2400 -- Apr. 17, 2001 -- The PA-2400 web tablet/PDA hybrid is based on Hitachi's SH3 processor. Dimensions are 7.0 x 4.2 x .8 in. with a 5.9 in. screen (diagonally). It has been designed for multiple communication methods including modems, LAN/WAN wireless, CDPD modems, docking stations, or IrDa.
