"Netbooks" are low-cost notebook computers, often based on low-power Intel processors, such as Atom. Asus achieved the first mainstream netbook success, with its Linux-based EEE.

Microsoft subsequently decided to continue offering Windows XP for netbooks, as well as for nettops (ultra-low cost desktops). Since then, Windows has proven a popular choice for netbooks, as shown by the models listed below, which mostly either Vista or XP. We've included notebook-style devices that run Windows CE, too, since they target the same market.

Intel Classmate (2010 version) -- March 3, 2010 -- Intel redesigned its Classmate convertible netbook and tablet PC with an Intel Atom N450 "Pineview" processor. Other new Classmate features are said to include a higher-capacity 2.5-inch hard disk drive (HDD), a higher-resolution, water-resistant screen, and new e-book reading software.

Asus EeePC 1018P, 1016P, 1015P, 1201PN, and 1001PQ -- March 2, 2010 -- Asus' EeePC 1018, 1016P, and 1015P include Intel's N455 and N475 processors, which incorporate DDR3 memory. The 1201PN, meanwhile, employs Nvidia's Ion 2 GPU, while the 1001PQ uses the Atom N450 CPU and is aimed at children.

Dell Inspiron Mini 10 Performance Plus -- Feb. 26, 2010 -- Dell offers a "Performance Plus" version of its Inspiron Mini 10 netbook, including a 1366 x 768 display, a Broadcom "Crystal HD" media accelerator, and a six-cell battery. The Mini 10 also gets up to 9.5 hours of battery life, and comes with Windows 7 Starter edition instead of Windows XP, the company says.

MSI Wind U160 -- Feb. 16, 2010 -- MSI offers a netbook claimed to offer battery life as long as 15 hours. The Wind U160 has a 10.1-inch display, a 1.66GHz Atom N450 processor, up to 2GB of RAM and a 160GB hard disk drive, plus 802.11b/g, Bluetooth, and optional 3G modem, according to the company.

Acer Aspire One 532G -- Feb. 15, 2010 -- Acer offers a netbook employing Nvidia's "Ion 2" chipset, combining a 1.66GHz Intel Atom N450 processor with a discrete GPU (graphics processing unit). The Aspire One 532G offers 720p video playback on its 10.1-inch screen and 1080p via HDMI, runs for up to 10 hours per charge, and weighs just 2.2 pounds, the company says.

Lenovo IdeaPad S10-3t -- February 2, 2010 -- Lenovo's IdeaPad S10-3t includes a capacitive touchscreen with 1024 x 600 pixel resolution, a 1.66GHz Atom N450 processor, a 160GB hard disk drive, and two Mini PCI Express slots, according to the company.
Yukyung Technologies Viliv S10 Blade -- Jan. 11, 2010 -- Yukyung's S10 Blade is a netbook whose multi-touch screen folds over its keyboard, converting the device into a tablet. The Blade uses a 1.6GHz Atom Z530 processor or 2.0GHz Z530 and runs Windows 7 Home Premium, according to the company.

HP Mini 210, Mini 2102, Mini 5102 -- Jan. 6, 2010 -- HP offers three netbooks using Intel's N450 "Pineview" processor. The Mini 210 and Mini 2102, both with 10.1-inch screens, are joined by the Mini 5102, which offers an optional touchscreen and up to ten hours of battery life, the company says.
Lenovo IdeaPad U1 -- Jan. 6, 2010 -- Lenovo announced a device that is part Windows netbook, part Linux-based tablet. The IdeaPad U1 features an 11.6-inch touchscreen that includes a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, plus a base unit with an dual-core Pentium CPU, the company says.

Toshiba NB305 -- Jan. 4, 2010 -- Toshiba offers a netbook that uses Intel's "Pineview" Atom N450 processor and promises up to 11 hours of battery life. The NB305 includes a 10.1-inch display with 1024 x 600 resolution, a 250GB hard disk drive, a six-cell battery, plus both WiFi and Bluetooth 2.1, according to the company.

Samsung N210, N220, N150, and NB30 -- Jan. 4, 2010 -- Samsung offers four netbooks using Intel's new N450 "Pineview" Atom. The N210, N220, N150, and NB30 include 10.1-inch "anti-reflective" displays, up to 12 hours of battery life, and, on two models, the Phoenix HyperSpace fast-boot environment, the company says.

Lenovo S10-3 and S10-3t -- December 23, 2009 -- Lenovo introduced two "Pineview" netbooks, one of them convertible into a multi-touch tablet. Using Intel's 1.66GHz Atom N450, the IdeaPad S10-3 and IdeaPad S10-3t will feature optional GPS receivers and 3G cellular connectivity.

MSI Wind U130 and U135 -- December 22, 2009 -- MSI's Wind U130 and U135 include 10.1-inch screens, 160GB or 250GB hard disk drives, 802.11b/g wireless networking, three- or six-cell batteries, and the Windows 7 Starter operating system, the company says.

Fujitsu Lifebook MH380 -- December 21, 2009 -- Fujitsu offers a netbook that uses Intel's N450 Atom and is said to deliver more than seven hours of battery life. The LifeBook MH380 has a 10.1-inch display with 1366 x 768 resolution, has a 250GB hard disk drive, and includes software designed to offer easy file sharing via USB, the company says.

Dell Inspiron Mini 10 (2010 version) -- December 21, 2009 -- Dell offers an updated version of its Inspiron Mini 10 netbook, using Intel's new Atom N450 processor and an optional Broadcom "Crystal HD" media accelerator. The Mini 10 now sports a redesigned keyboard, optional HD video support, and up to 9.5 hours of battery life, says the company.

Cherrypal Africa -- Dec. 15, 2009 -- Cherrypal released a device touted as the "world's first $99 laptop" and announced an upgrade to a previously released Intel-based netbook. The "Africa" has a seven-inch display and runs Windows CE on a 400MHz ARM9 or MIPS processor, while the "Bing" has an Atom N280 CPU and offers five hours of battery life, the company says.

Onkyo DX -- Dec. 10, 2009 -- Onkyo offers a notebook computer sporting two 10.1-inch displays, for a total work area of 2732 x 768 pixels. The DX has an AMD Athlon MV-40 processor, a touchpad and optical pointing device, up to 4GB of RAM, and a 320GB hard disk drive, according to the company.

Kohjinsha DZ -- Dec. 2, 2009 -- Kohjinsha released a computer featuring two 10.1-inch displays, for a total work area of 2048 x 600 pixels. The DZ offers an AMD Athlon MV-40 processor, a fingerprint reader, up to 4GB of RAM, and a 160GB hard disk drive, according to the company.

Asus Eee PC 1008P -- Dec. 2, 2009 -- Asus offers a netbook based on Intel's "Pineview" Atom. The Eee PC 1008P will include a 1.66GHz N450 processor, a slide-out battery, 1.3 megapixel webcam, plus at least 1GB of RAM and a 160GB hard disk drive.
Asus Eee PC 1201T -- Nov. 30, 2009 -- Asus' 12.1-inch netbook uses AMD's Athlon MV-40 processor. The Eee PC 1201T offers 1080p video playback, a 250GB hard disk drive, a six-cell battery, and up to five hours of cordless operation.
Lexibook MFC100GB -- Nov. 24, 2009 -- Toys "R" Us is selling a Windows CE 5.0-based laptop that's aimed at kids, and said to be bundled with 50 different games. The Lexibook MFC100GB has a 400MHz Samsung processor, eight-inch display, 64MB of RAM and 1GB of flash storage, an Ethernet port, and a bright orange case.

LG X120 -- Nov. 23, 2009 -- LG Electronics' first netbook for the U.S. market offers a "SmartOn" interface that loads in seconds. The LG X120 includes an Intel Atom N270 processor, a 10.1-inch display, a 160GB hard disk drive, and a HSDPA (high speed downlink packet access model), and is sold for $180 with an AT&T contract at RadioShack stories.

Asus Eee PC 1201N -- Nov. 19, 2009 -- Asus offers a netbook that combines a dual-core Intel Atom 330 processor with Nvidia's Ion GPU (graphics processing unit). The Eee PC 1201N includes a 12-inch screen with 1366 x 768 pixel resolution, up to 3GB of RAM and a 320GB hard disk drive, HDMI video output, and up to five hours of battery life.

Lenovo ThinkPad X100e -- Nov. 19, 2009 -- Lenovo's ThinkPad X100e netbook includes a 11.6-inch display, an AMD Athlon MV-40 processor, up to 4GB of RAM and 320GB of disk storage, plus both touchpad and TrackPoint pointing devices.

Asus Eee PC 1201N -- Nov. 19, 2009 -- Asus offers a netbook that combines a dual-core Intel Atom 330 processor with Nvidia's Ion GPU (graphics processing unit). The Eee PC 1201N includes a 12-inch screen with 1366 x 768 pixel resolution, up to 3GB of RAM and a 320GB hard disk drive, HDMI video output, and up to five hours of battery life.

Lenovo ThinkPad X100e -- Nov. 19, 2009 -- After months of rumors and wishful thinking, Lenovo finally released a ThinkPad netbook. The ThinkPad X100e includes a 11.6-inch display, an AMD Athlon MV-40 processor, up to 4GB of RAM and 320GB of disk storage, plus both touchpad and TrackPoint pointing devices.

Lenovo IdeaPad FL5-B3 -- Nov. 16, 2009 -- What appeared be the first netbook based on Intel's "Pineview" Atom broke cover thanks to a filing on the FCC website. The Lenovo IdeaPad "FL5-B3" includes a 1.66GHz CPU, a 10.1-inch display, 2GB of RAM, and a 250GB hard disk drive.
Menq EasyPC E790 -- Nov. 13, 2009 -- China-based Menq offers a smartbook/mini-netbook that runs Windows CE 5.0 on an ARM9-based Samsung S3C2450 processor. The Menq EasyPC E790, which offers WiFi, Ethernet, SD storage, and a 7-inch 800 x 480 display, costs only $80.

Haleron Mio Smartbook -- Nov. 11, 2009 -- Haleron offers a mini-laptop that runs Windows CE 6.0 on a 266MHz ARM processor. The "Mio Smartbook" includes a seven-inch display, 128MB of RAM, 1GB of flash storage, plus both wired and wireless networking.
Delstar DS 700 -- Nov. 4, 2009 -- Chinese company Delstar announced a seven-inch netbook that runs Windows CE on an ARM processor. The device, with a 400MHz Samsung CPU, was to be sold for $120 by KMart in the retailer's post-Thanksgiving "Black Friday" sale.
MSI Wind12 U230 -- Nov. 3, 2009 -- MSI's portable computer blends netbook dimensions with upgraded internals. The Wind12 U230 includes an AMD Athlon Neo MV-30 processor, a 12.1-inch display with 1366 x 768 resolution, up to 4GB of RAM, and hard disk drives from 160GB to 320GB.

Asus T91MT -- Nov. 2, 2009 -- Asus' convertible netbook features Windows 7 and a multi-touch screen. The Eee T91MT features a pivoting display, 1.33GHz Atom Z520 processor, a 32GB SSD (solid state drive), and claimed five-hour battery life.
Lenovo IdeaPad S12 -- Oct. 28, 2009 -- Lenovo's IdeaPad S12 is a netbook that features a 12.1-inch screen and discrete Nvidia graphics. The device runs Windows 7, includes an Intel Atom N270 processor, comes with up to 3GB of RAM, and is available with a 320GB hard drive.

Asus Eee PC 1005HR and 1005HE -- Oct. 22, 2009 -- Asus offers two 10.1-inch netbooks running Windows 7, one with a high-res, 1366 x 768 pixel screen. The Eee PC 1005HR and HE offer Intel Atom N280 CPUs, 160GB or 250GB hard disk drives, WiFi, Bluetooth, and three megapixel webcams.

Acer Aspire AS1410 -- Oct. 20, 2009 -- Acer says its Acer Aspire AS1410 "is the size of a netbook, but is truly a mainstream notebook." The device has a 11.6-inch screen, plus netbook-like dimensions of 11.2 x 8 x 1.2 inches, and a weight of 3.08 pounds. However, instead of Intel's Atom processor, the AS1410 employs an Intel Celeron SU2300 clocked at 1.4GHz.

Mobinnova Beam -- Oct. 14, 2009 -- Mobinnova announced a new name and sales strategy for its pioneering mini-laptop using Nvidia's Tegra system-on-chip (SoC). The "Beam" has an 8.9-inch screen, 3G and WiFi connectivity, provides up to ten hours of 720p video playback on a charge, and wraps Windows CE in a custom user interface, the company says.

Sony Vaio X -- Oct. 13, 2009 -- Sony used a "netbook" processor for its Vaio X, touted as "the world's lightest notebook." The $1300 device offers a 1.6-pound chassis made of carbon fiber, a 64GB or 128GB SSD (solid state drive), a 2.0GHz Intel Atom Z550 CPU, GPS, Verizon cellular connectivity, and up to 14 hours of battery life, the company says.
SungWorld netbook -- Oct. 13, 2009 -- The Chinese manufacturer SungWorld released a sleek-looking netbook that runs Windows CE 5.0 on a Via-manufactured ARM SoC (system on chip). With a 7-inch 800 x 480 pixel display and a weight of 1.54 pounds, the device sells for just $73, according to the Shanzhaiben.com website.

Haleron Swordfish Dual -- Sept. 30, 2009 -- A Colombian company claimed to have put two Intel Atom processors into a single netbook. Touted as the "fastest on earth," the Haleron "Swordfish Net 102 Dual" also includes a 10.2-inch display, 160GB hard drive, 2GB of DDR2 memory, and the Windows XP Home operating system, says Haleron.

HP Mini 311 -- Sept. 15, 2009 -- HP's netbook uses Nvidia's Ion companion chip, and offers both a 1366 x 768 pixel display and HDMI output. The Mini 311 includes a 11.6-inch display, 160GB hard disk drive, 802.11b/g wireless networking, Bluetooth, six-cell battery, and "92 percent of full size" keyboard.

Acer Ferrari One -- Sept. 10, 2009 -- Acer offers a Ferrari-branded netbook using AMD's "Congo" platform, also including a port for an external docking station. The "Ferrari One" includes an 11.6-inch display, a dual-core Athlon X2 processor, optional HSDPA cellular, and a six-cell battery.


Via eNote Turnkey Solution -- Sept. 10, 2009 -- Via offers a notebook computer reference design packing a 1.3GHz Nano processor along with optional Mobile WiMAX, GPS, and cellular connectivity. The "eNote Turnkey Solution" has an 11.6-inch display, two megapixel camera, and up to 2GB of DDR2 memory.

Nokia Booklet 3G -- Aug. 24, 2009 -- Nokia's Windows netbook includes 3G broadband connectivity, WiFi, GPS, Bluetooth, and a 10.1-inch display. The "Booklet 3G" includes an Intel Atom Z530 processor, an HDMI output, and claimed 12-hour battery life.


Kohjinsha EX6 -- Aug. 21, 2009 -- Kohjinsha's netbook features both an integrated optical drive and a 11.6-inch touchscreen that pivots into tablet position. The EX6 features dual webcams, an ExpressCard/34 slot, a fingerprint reader, plus both microSD and SD slots.

Lanyu eBook LY-EB01 -- Aug. 13, 2009 -- The Chinese company Lanyu announced a Windows CE-based netbook that sells for under $100. The "eBook LY-EB01" has a seven-inch 800 x 480 display, up to 128MB of RAM and 8GB of flash storage, optional WiFi, and seven-hour battery life.


Dell Inspiron Mini Nickelodeon Edition -- Aug. 12, 2009 -- Dell partnered with Nickelodeon to create a netbook designed expressly for kids. The "Inspiron Mini Nickelodeon Edition" includes a 10-inch display, three different case designs, and matching Windows skins.

Samsung N510 -- Aug. 11, 2009 -- Samsung offers a netbook offering an 11.6-inch anti-glare display and Nvidia's Ion companion chip. The N510 features Intel's Atom N270 processor, an HDMI output, and 6.5 hours of claimed battery life.
Gigabyte T1028X/G -- Aug. 11, 2009 -- Gigabyte offers a netbook with a swiveling touchscreen and an Intel Atom N280 processor. The T1028X/G has a 10-inch, 1366 x 768 pixel display, an ExpressCard slot, a HSDPA (high speed downlink packet access) cellular modem, and optional WiMAX.

Inventec Rainbow -- Aug. 6, 2009 -- Inventec's Rainbow is a "smartbook" using Nvidia's Tegra system-on-chip (SoC). The Inventec Rainbow has a 10.1-inch screen, a 600MHz ARM11-based processor, GPS, mobile broadband, 802.11b/g wireless networking, and runs Windows CE 6.0.


Point of View Mobii Ion -- Jul. 23, 2009 -- Dutch company Point of View offers a 10.2-inch netbook that uses Nvidia's Ion companion chip. The "Mobii Ion" comes with Intel's Atom 230 processor, an HDMI output, a 160GB hard disk drive, 802.11b/g wireless, and a choice of three- or six-cell batteries.


Medion Akoya Mini E1312 -- Jul. 8, 2009 -- U.K. manufacturer Medion offers a netbook using a 1.5GHz AMD Sempron 210U processor. The Akoya Mini E1312 comes with integrated ATI Radeon Xpress 1250 graphics, an 11.6-inch display, both VGA and HDMI video outputs, a 160GB hard drive, and an optional nine-cell battery.


Asus T91, T91A, T91go -- Jul 7, 2009 -- Asus offers three different versions of a netbook whose 8.9-inch screen flips around to make the device a tablet PC. The T91 will reportedly be offered with either single-touch (T91) or multi-touch (T91 displays, while GPS and a digital TV tuner are also be available (T91go).


Sony Vaio W Series -- Jul. 7, 2009 -- Sony's first netbook features a 10.1-inch display with a higher-than-usual 1366 x 768 pixel resolution. The "Vaio W Series" includes a 1.66GHz Intel Atom N280 processor, a 160GB hard drive, Bluetooth, and 802.11b/g/n wireless networking.


Compaq Mini 110c-1040DX -- Jul. 06, 2009 -- The Compaq Mini 110c-1040DX, a version of HP's Mini 110, includes a mobile broadband module in addition to standard netbook features. The device is sold by Best Buy for $1 to customers who sign up for two years of data service from Sprint.



Gateway LT3013u -- Jun. 26, 2009 -- Acer's Gateway division announced a netbook that appeared to be the first such device to use an AMD processor. The Gateway LT3013u (left) includes an AMD Athlon L110 processor, a 11.6-inch display, 2GB of RAM, a 250GB hard disk drive, and ATI Radeon X1270 graphics.


HP Mini 5101 -- Jun. 24, 2009 -- HP added to its bevy of netbooks with a business-oriented mini PC using Intel's Atom N280 processor. The "HP Mini 5101" includes a "95 percent" keyboard, available 1366 x 768-pixel display, hard- or solid-state disk (SSD) storage, and optional mobile broadband module.


Toshiba NB205 -- Jun. 17, 2009 -- Toshiba's netbook uses Intel's Atom N280 processor and delivers nearly nine hours of battery life. The NB205 includes a choice of five colors (left), a "chiclet" keyboard, a 10.1-inch screen, and a 160GB hard drive.


Asus Disney Netpal MK90/MK90H -- Jun. 17, 2009 -- Asus and Disney collaborated on a kids' netbook, offered by Toys 'r' Us with a 16GB SSD (solid state drive) and Amazon with a 160GB hard disk drive. Like most other netbooks, it includes a 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 CPU, an 8.9-inch screen with 1024 x 600 resolution, and 1GB of DDR2 RAM.


Archos 10s -- Jun. 16, 2009 -- Archos billed this netbook as the "thinnest on the market" at just 0.86 inches. The "Archos 10s" comes with a 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 processor, a 10.2-inch display, and a 12-month Microsoft Office license.


NEC VersaPro UltraLite VS -- Jun. 15, 2009 -- NEC's netbook-like computer uses Intel's 1.86GHz Atom Z540 CPU and runs Windows XP or Vista. The VersaPro UltraLite VS has a 10-inch, 1280 x 768-pixel display, a 64GB SSD (solid state disk), and is said to survive being stepped on.


Benq Joybook Lite U121 Eco -- Jun. 8, 2009 -- Benq's "Joybook Lite U121 Eco" includes an 11.6-inch display, "100 percent" keyboard, up to 500GB of storage, and optional HSUPA (high speed uplink packet access). It's offered with either a 1.33GHz Intel Atom Z520 CPU, or a 1.6GHz Z530.


Mobinnova Elan -- Jun. 2, 2009 -- Mobinnova offers a mini-laptop using Nvidia's Tegra system-on-chip (SoC). The "Elan" has an 8.9-inch screen, 3G and WiFi connectivity, provides up to ten hours of video playback on a charge, and wraps Windows CE in a custom user interface.


HP Mini 110 and Mini 1101 -- May 27, 2009 -- Spinning variations on a popular theme, HP added two new netbooks to its product line. The company's Mini 110 and Mini 1101 use the same hardware, with 10.1-inch screens and Intel Atom N270 processors, but come with different colors, storage, and operating system options.


Lenovo IdeaPad S12 -- May 26, 2009 -- Lenovo's portable computer pushes the edge of the "netbook" envelope. The IdeaPad S12 has the usual Intel Atom N270 CPU, but adds a 12.1-inch display, a keyboard "100 percent the size of a full-size laptop," and optional discrete graphics.


Asus Eee PC 1000HV -- May 22, 2009 -- Asus added a model with discrete graphics to its already-huge netbook family. The Eee PC 1000HV has ATI Radeon HD 3450 video, an Intel Atom N280 processor, a 10.1-inch display, a 160GB hard disk drive, and a six-cell battery.


Dell Latitude 2100 -- May 19, 2009 -- Aiming its new Latitude 2100 at both K-12 and enterprise markets, Dell seems to suggest that going back to school or back to work aren't that different. The colorful netbook features a rubberized case, available touchscreen, gigabit Ethernet, and optional SSDs (solid state drives).


Acer Aspire AO751h -- May 18, 2009 -- Acer added to its range of netbooks with this new model, sporting an 11.6-inch screen, plus a 10.1-inch model, the AOD150, that's smaller and lighter than its previous such device.


Dell Mini 10v -- May 12, 2009 -- Dell offers this as a lower-cost version of its popular Mini 10 netbook, replacing Intel's Z5xx-series Atom with the typical N270. The Dell Inspiron Mini 10v sells for $300, with a 10-inch display, 120GB or 160GB hard drive, and a 1.3 megapixel webcam.


Lenovo IdeaPad S10-2 -- May 12, 2009 -- Lenovo's revamped mini-laptop is slightly thinner and lighter, and includes an enlarged keyboard. The IdeaPad S10-2 netbook includes a 10.1-inch screen, 1GB of memory, a 160GB hard disk drive, a six-cell battery, and built-in Dolby Headphone technology.


NorhTec Gecko EduBook -- May 11, 2009 -- NorhTec's netbook operates on eight AA batteries, has an internal power supply, and runs Windows XP on a 1GHz SoC (system on chip). The "Gecko EduBook" has an 8.9-inch display, has an easily reconfigurable modular design, and costs under $200.


Wanxin H1 -- Apr. 27, 2009 -- The Taiwanese company Wanxin offers a Windows CE-based netbook with an ARM processor. The "H1" has an 8.9-inch 800 x 480 display, 256MB of RAM, 4GB or 8GB of flash storage, 802.11b/g wireless networking, and an optional GSM cellular modem.


Sharp Mebius NJ70A -- Apr. 21, 2009 -- Sharp's unusual Windows netbook that comes with a touchscreen trackpad. The Mebuius NJ70A replaces its standard trackpad with an 854 x 480 touchscreen display, capable of displaying custom menus and allowing multitouch operations such as panning and zooming.


OLPC XO-1 version 1.5 -- Apr. 20, 2009 -- The One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) Association announced a Windows-friendly "1.5" refresh of its XO-1 mini-laptop for third-world schoolchildren. The revised version switches to a Via C7M processor, increases memory to 1GB of DDR2 RAM, and includes 4GB or 8GB of flash.


Toshiba Dynabook UX -- Apr. 20, 2009 -- Toshiba's Dynabook UX uses an Intel's Atom N280 processor. The netbook features a white or "satin brown" cover and a "chiclet" keyboard, a 10.1-inch screen, a 160GB hard drive, and up to ten hours of battery life.


MSI Wind U123 -- Apr. 13, 2009 -- MSI's netbook uses Intel's 1.66GHz Atom N280 processor and offers an optional TV tuner. The "Wind U123" has a 10-inch display, 80GB, 120GB, or 160GB hard disk drives, "EasyFace" security software, and available HSDPA (high speed downlink packet access) networking.


3K RazorBook 400 CE -- Apr. 10, 2009 -- 3K Computer's Windows CE-based netbook sells for just $150. The RazorBook 400 CE includes 128MB of RAM, 4GB of flash storage, a seven-inch display with 800 x 480 resolution, a 10/100 Ethernet port, and 802.11b/g wireless networking.


Hanvon HCQ890 -- Apr. 9, 2009 -- Intel's convertible "Classmate" PC for schoolchildren has been released in China for the first time, as the Hanvon HCQ890. The device features a swiveling 8.9-inch touchscreen display and a 1.6GHz Atom N270 processor.


Gateway LT20 -- Apr. 8, 2009 -- The Gateway LT20 is a 1.0-inch netbook with the usual 1.6GHz Atom N270 processor. It appears to be a rebranded equivalent of parent company Acer's Aspire AOD150.


Asus Eee PC 1004DN -- Mar. 31, 2009 -- Asus's netbook is one of the few that includes an integral optical disk drive. The Eee PC 1004DN has an Intel Atom N280 processor, a 10-inch display, a 120GB hard disk drive, up to 2GB of RAM, and weighs 3.19 pounds with a six-cell battery.


Samsung N110, N120, NC310 -- Mar. 26, 2009 -- Samsung offers three different netbooks with 10.2-inch displays and Intel Atom processors. The N110, N120, and NC310 offer slightly different form factors, but all have improved keyboards, six-cell batteries, and 160GB hard drives loaded with Windows XP.


Archos 10 -- Mar. 27, 2009 -- Archos released its first netbook, bundling with it IBM's Lotus Symphony software and a membership to the web-based Archos Media Club. The "Archos 10" has a 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 processor, 160GB hard drive, a 10.2-inch display, and 1GB of RAM.


Top Crown Technology 3G Netbook -- Mar. 19, 2009 -- The Chinese company Top Crown Technology offers a netbook using Via's 64-bit Nano processor and VX855 northbridge/southbridge. The "3G Netbook" includes a 10.1-inch display, hard disk drive (HDD) or solid state drive (SSD) storage, WiFi, Bluetooth, and HSDPA (high speed downlink packet access) connectivity.


Asus Eee PC 1008HA -- Mar. 4, 2009 -- This is Asus's second netbook using Intel's 1.66GHz Atom N280 processor. The "Eee PC 1008HA" is just an inch thick, weighs 2.4 pounds, has a 10-inch LED-backlit display and 160GB hard disk drive, and delivers five-hour battery life.


Samsung NC20 -- Feb. 27, 2009 -- Based on Via's Nano processor, Samsung's NC20 netbook has a 12.1-inch display with 1280 x 800 resolution, up to 160GB of hard disk storage, and a six-cell battery that lasts 6.5 hours.


Dell Inspiron Mini 10 -- Feb. 20, 2009 -- Dell's netbook sports both a 10-inch display and an HDMI (high definition multimedia interface) output. The Inspiron Mini 10 includes a 1.3GHz Atom Z520 or 1.6GHz Atom Z530 processor, 1.3 megapixel webcam, Bluetooth, WiFi, and Windows XP.


Acer Aspire One AOD150 -- Feb. 10, 2009 -- Acer offers this "second generation" version of its hot-selling netbook, the Aspire One. The "Aspire One AOD150" includes a 10.1-inch display, 160GB hard disk drive, a six-cell battery, and the Windows XP Home operating system.


Asus Eee PC 1000HE -- Feb. 2, 2009 -- Asus's Eee PC 1000HE uses Intel's 1.6GHz N280 processor, teaming it with 1GB of RAM, a 160GB hard disk drive, and Windows XP. The device has a 8700mAh battery claimed to allow more than nine hours of run time.


CherryPal Bing -- Jan. 20, 2009 -- The CherryPal Bing is a netbook with an Intel Atom N270 clocked at 1.6GHz, plus 1GB of DDR2 memory. For storage, CherryPal offers a 160GB hard disk drive (HDD), plus an SD/MMC/MS card socket, and the netbook's 10.2-inch TFT display boasts 1024 x 600 resolution.


Dr Mobile FreeStyle 1300n -- Jan 6, 2009 -- Taiwanese manufacturer "Dr. Mobile" announced a netbook using Via's Nano processor. The FreeStyle 1300n offers an 11.6-inch screen, up to 4GB of RAM, a webcam, WiFi, Bluetooth, and a PCI Express Mini Card slot for optional broadband.


HP Mini 2140 -- Jan 6, 2009 -- HP announced a netbook targeting "business applications" and "instructional use." The HP Mini 2140 features a 10.1 screen with up to 1366 x 768 pixels, an Atom N270 processor, a 160GB hard disk drive or 80GB SSD (solid state drive), plus an ExpressCard/54 slot.


MSI Wind U110 and U115 -- Dec. 11, 2008 -- To provide all-day battery life in these netbooks, MSI turns to Intel's Z5xx series Atom CPUs. The "U110" and "U115" offer 1.6GHz Z530 processors, 10-inch displays, and eight-to-10 hours of operation, respectively.


Asus N10 -- Nov. 19, 2008 --Asus's N10 netbook has the typical 1.6GHz Atom processor, 945GSE and ICH7M chipset, and up to 2GB of RAM, but adds discrete graphics, an integral fingerprint reader, and up to 320GB of storage.


Celio Redfly C8N and C7 -- Nov. 18, 2008 -- Celio Corporation offers two versions of its netbook-like add-on for Windows Mobile smartphones. The Redfly Mobile Companion C8N sports an eight-inch display and a video input for PMPs (personal media players), while the lighter, lower-priced C7 (left) has a seven-inch display.


HP Mini 1000 -- Oct. 29, 2008 -- HP's netbook sports a 1.6GHz Atom N270 processor and, in a Vivienne Tam edition, painted trees on its lid. The HP Mini 1000 features an 8.9-inch or 10.2-inch display, plus 60GB hard drive or SSD (solid state disk) storage up to 16GB.


Dell Inspiron Mini 12 -- Oct. 27, 2008 -- Dell announced a netbook that breaks from the herd by using a Intel Z5xx Atom CPU and 12-inch display. The Inspiron Mini 12 includes a 60GB or 80GB HDD (hard disk drive), 1GB of RAM, webcam, Bluetooth, 802.11b/g wireless networking, and runs Windows Vista.


Asus Eee PC S101 -- Oct. 6, 2008 -- Asus' "fashion forward" netbook comes in three metallic colors. Just under an inch thick, the Eee PC S101 includes a non-removable lithium-polymer battery pack, and from 16GB to 64GB of SSD (solid state disk) storage.


Asus Eee PC 901 -- Sep. 25, 2008 -- Asus has added HSUPA (high speed uplink packet access) wide-area networking to its popular "Eee" netbook line. The carrier-ready "Eee PC 901 with 3.75G" provides download and upload speeds of up to 7.2Mbps and 2Mbps, respectively, along with 7.5 hours of battery life.


Robert Dyas Cuol Book -- Sep. 23, 2008 -- U.K. retailer Robert Dyas announced a mini-laptop of its own, based on Windows CE 5.0. The "Cuol Book" features a 7-inch screen, 512MB of RAM, and 1GB of flash storage, plus three USB ports, WiFi, and five-hour battery life.



Eltrinex MobilePC -- Sep. 17, 2008 -- Czech vendor Eltrinex's netbook computer comes with Windows XP Home Edition and sports a 320GB hard drive. The "MobilePC" includes a Via C7-M ULV processor, 10.2-inch display, 1GB of RAM, 802.11a/b/g wireless networking, and a bundled external DVD writer.


Dell Inspiron Mini 9 -- Sep. 4, 2008 -- Dell's first netbook is a $400-$450 Intel Atom-based model loaded with Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition. The Inspiron Mini 9 offers a 1.6GHz Atom N270, up to 1GB SDRAM, an 8.9-inch, 1024 X 600 display, three USB ports, Ethernet, and an 8GB-16GB solid-state drive (SSD).


LG X110 -- Aug. 29, 2008 -- LG Electronics' netbook sports a built-in HSPA (high speed packet access) modem. Otherwise, the device follows the usual recipe: a 1.6GHz Atom processor, 10-inch screen, 80GB or 120GB hard drive, 802.11b/g, and a wired Ethernet port.



Raon Digital Everun Note -- Aug. 12, 2008 -- Raon Digital's Everun Note offers AMD's Turion 64 X2 processor, a seven-inch display, 1GB of RAM, 60GB hard drive, and Windows XP Home. One of the smaller netbooks, it weighs just 1.6 pounds, and measures 7.87 x 4.64 x 1.08 inches.


Digital Gadgets (Sylvania) g netbook MESO -- Aug. 8, 2008 -- This 8.9-inch netbook computer is sold under the Sylvania brand name. Offered in four different colors, the "g netbook MESO" includes a 1.6GHz Atom processor, 80GB hard drive, four-cell battery, webcam, and 802.11b/g wireless networking.


Lenovo IdeaPad S9 and S10 -- Aug. 4, 2008 -- Lenovo's IdeaPad S9 and S10 feature 8.9- and 10-inch displays, respectively, plus 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 processors, 1.3 megapixel webcams, 802.11b/g wireless networking, and up to 160GB of storage. International customers can buy the 8.9-inch S9 with Linux and solid-state storage, while U.S. customers get only the 10.2-inch S10 with hard disk-based Windows XP Home installations.


Join Tech J-Pro JL7100 -- Jul. 28, 2008 -- Hong Kong-based Join Tech's device was claimed to be the first sub-$100 mini-laptop. The J-Pro JL7100 has an 800 x 480 display, 64MB of RAM and 64MB of flash storage, and runs Windows CE 5.0 on a 400MHz Samsung processor.


Gigabyte M912 -- Jul. 24, 2008 -- Gigabyte's Intel-Atom based netbook has a swiveling, 8.9 inch touchscreen display. The M912 comes with Windows Vista or XP Home, includes a 1.6GHz N270 processor, has a 2.5-inch hard drive with 160GB of storage, sports a webcam, and has 802.11b wireless.


PC World Advent 4211 -- Jul. 11, 2008 -- U.K. retailer PC World's Advent 4211 is a private-label version of MSI's "Wind" netbook. It boasts an Atom N270 processor, 10-inch display, 80GB hard drive, 1GB of RAM, webcam, 802.11b/g, and Bluetooth, according to the company.


3K Computer RazorBook 400 -- Jun. 27, 2008 -- A mini-laptop that runs Windows CE, the RazorBook 400 includes 512MB of RAM, 4GB of flash storage, a seven-inch display with 800 x 480 resolution, a 10/100 Ethernet port, and 802.11b/g wireless networking.


Asus Eee PC 901 and 1000 -- Jun. 19, 2008 -- Based on Intel Atom processors, the Eee PC 901 and 1000 models provide 8.9-inch and 10-inch displays, respectively. Compared to earlier EEE models, they offer Bluetooth, longer battery life, improved shock resistance, faster WiFi, more storage, and WiMAX options, says Asus.

Acer Aspire One Netbook -- Jun. 03, 2008 -- A low-cost notebook, aka "netbook," based on Intel's newly unveiled N270 Atom processor, the Aspire One offers Windows XP Home, 512MB or 1GB of RAM, 8GB flash, an 8.9-inch, 1024 x 600 display, WiFi, a webcam, and an optional 80GB hard drive.


Via OpenBook -- May 27, 2008 -- A mini laptop notebook reference design boasting an 8.9-inch screen, interchangeable local and wide area networking modules, and a "dual-headed" video camera, the Via "OpenBook" also features an open source case design that users can download in CAD (computer-aided design) file format.


OLPC XO -- May 15, 2008 -- Microsoft has announced an agreement with One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) that will make Windows XP available on the non-profit's low-cost laptops for third-world children. The "feature-complete" XP Professional installation now supports the laptop's e-book reading mode, networking, camera, custom keys, and power-saving features, says Microsoft.


Fujitsu LifeBook U810 -- May 02, 2008 -- A convertible UMPC with a 60GB hard drive option and optional HSUPA (high speed uplink packet access) modem, the LifeBook U810 has a pivoting 5.6-inch touchscreen, an 800MHz A110 processor, WiFi, Bluetooth 2.0, and an integral fingerprint sensor.


HP 2133 Mini-Note PC -- Apr. 08, 2008 -- Targeting education and cost-conscious consumers, the HP 2133 runs Windows Vista or XP, weighs 2.8 pounds, has a nine-inch display, uses a Via C7-M ULV processor, and offers solid-state or hard disk storage.


Everex Cloudbook Max -- Apr. 04, 2008 -- Supporting Windows Vista, and offering "ubiquitous Internet" and GPS, the CloudBook Max features a 1.6GHz Via processor, nine-inch display, 80GB hard drive, WiFi, Bluetooth, and a WiMAX radio chip that works with Sprint's XOHM network.


Intel Classmate PC -- Apr. 03, 2008 -- Intel's updated Classmate mini-laptop reference design targets consumers and schoolchildren both, and runs Windows XP or Linux. The device has a 30GB hard drive, a revised touchpad and keyboard, webcam, and a nine-inch screen.


Asus EEE PC 900 -- Mar. 05, 2008 -- A version of the Asus "Eee" PC with a larger screen and Windows XP pre-installed, the PC 900 has a 900MHz Celeron-M CPU, 9-inch WSVGA screen, 1GB of RAM, 802.11b/g wireless networking, a webcam, and up to 12GB of solid-state storage.
